Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne is the #NewBohemian, Review & Photos

I hope you had a great start in the week. Last week I had to work on lots of administrative details, this week started good for me. I feel like I can now focus and work. Already got a few things done, looking good!

To shake off the Monday blues, today I have two things which smell divine for you, flowers and the new fragrance from Jo Malone London called Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne. If you'd like a modern floriental to add to your vanity or just searching for a unique scent for this season, here comes a great one for you.

Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne

I was very intrigued when I heard that Jo Malone is bringing out a Cologne with Mimosa. I really love the elegance of rose and intimacy and sensuality of jasmine but it have the feeling that it is becoming harder everyday to create something unique of notes which are so common. The scent pyramid of Mimosa & Cardamom looks rather simple and evokes even more curiosity.

Top Note
Cardamom
Heart Note
Mimosa
Base Note
Tonka Bean

The nose behind Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom is Marie Salamagne who also created one the recent oriental additions to the line, Incense & Cedrat (reviewed here). Her inspiration for Mimosa & Cardamom is the orientalist painter Frederic Leighton's house in Holland Park in London. I haven't visited it myself but it is said to have over 100 tiles which he collected during his visits to Middle East. You can check out the museum's website here. I definitely add this destination to my "must see" list for my visit to London which is already being planned at the moment.

I have noticed that Jo Malone London Websites now have a Tile Workshop with which you can create your own tiles based on the ones from the museum. It is fun! Check it out here.

Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne

Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne opens with a fresh spicy intro. I think there are more notes than what is listed in the pyramid. I think there is a citrus note by the start, something close to grape fruit, which hides under Cardamom to form a fresh spice start. From this point on the scent gets a warmer character as spices come to surface and citrusy top disappears. The warm base welcomes Acacia Dealbata (aka Mimosa) which is known to survive only in warm climates. Once the floral heart reveals, Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne becomes one of the most unique florals in my collection. Jo Malone claims that they used 100% natural extracts for mimosa and this is easy to believe as it smells so close to the original. This is when a touch of sweetness comes to play, blame the tonic beans but it is bohemia after all, supposed to be playful and carefree so I can tolerate a touch of sweetness in there, although I would personally favor a woody dry down.

Final thoughts: All in all Jo Malone London Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne is a unique floriental which is warm and inviting, intriguing and surprising. It is pretty linear but as long as it manages to stay that beautiful, who would like it to evolve to something else?

Have you already moved to warmer scents as the weather gets colder or are you resisting the change by going all tropic as long as possible?

  1. Lovely photos, Sara. I am still on the fence about this fragrance - have to try it again.

  2. I was thinking, maybe you don't like Tonka Beans?
Do you own other fragrances with that? It may get a bit gourmand at times.

  3. Ahhh I see your walk in the park resulted in some lovely photos! I haven't sniffed this yet. I kinda doubt I'll like it too much, but I'll take a whiff when I can just to be sure :)

  4. Yes I took the bottles to the park and made them my models ;-)
Is it released in Belgium yet? I think (actually I am almost sure) you will like it. Let me know.

  5. I do quite like Guerlain's Shalimar which packs a tonka punch although I have to be careful not to spray too much and an old favourite was Cacheral's Loulou which also had tonka base notes. On the other hand I loathe Angel which is a tonka bean fest so I think it's all in the mix!

  6. I love the new JM scent! BUT! I don't think it is that unique, it reminds me of French Lime Blossom, but in a more adultier way, more sophisticated. M&C is grat for autumn. And yes, I already started to wear thos autum-y scents like Caudalie e.g.

((Besides that French Lime Blossom gives me such a bad headache - that's why I can only wear a spritz of it with something like Wild Fig & Cassis on top to tone it down as much as I can))
