Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked, Bittersweet, After Dark, Blackmail, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

Today I have a lipstick post for you! It has been some time since I haven't shown you lippies. You probably(!) noticed that I am more of an eye shadow reviewer than a lipstick wearer but when it comes to matte finishes, my heart skips a beat. It is strange though because glossy lipsticks makes lips look fuller and mine need a bit of support there. On the other hand brighter shades are easier to wear for me when they are matte because my complexion might look very washed out with very bright shades. Anyhow, without further ado, let me show you Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks I have been enjoying.

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked, Bittersweet, After Dark, Blackmail

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks are currently available in nine shades in Germany. In the States I have noticed that there are two more shades which are offered exclusively at Urban Decay's website. Today I would like to show you Stark Naked, Bittersweet, After Dark and Blackmail. I am also trying to get my paws on the exclusive shade Back Talk. Let's hope for the best.

Matte Revolution Lipsticks come in similar cases than Revolution and Sheer Revolution Lipsticks. The only difference is that the color of the case is deeper. You know me, I love lila, I am a supporter of all things lila and these look chic without too much plastic so thumbs up for the packaging.

Do you have the feeling that every brand is releasing matte lippies? Yes they do but I am not complaining a bit. Similar to second generation mattes from MAC and Tom Ford Matte formula, Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks are not all that matte after all. They have a satin to matte finish which makes it easier to wear and more comfortable since they are more moisturising. Urban Decay is known to deliver in the pigmentation department and these lipsticks are no exception. You can see one swipe from each in the below swatches.

Swatches: Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked, Bittersweet, After Dark, Blackmail

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked is a stunning peachy pink nude which is not too warm nor too cold. I have been struggling to find a nice nude matte lipstick for those crazy eye make-up days and I found this to be a nice addition to my collection. I have nothing like it. I have some comparisons at the end of the post for you. I like its formula, not drying and very comfortable to wear.

You can find the details for the rest of the make-up here.

Here is one of my favourites of the four but I am sure you know that already. MAC Heroine is one of my all time favourite lipsticks and now I have a second one in close competition, Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Bittersweet. This is the most stunning fuchsia, lighter than Heroine so makes a better summer to fall lipstick, oh so in love! Bittersweet wears well, fades evenly and doesn't dry out my lips.

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in After Dark is a lovely shade for Fall. The funny thing about After Dark is that it has a fuchsia sheen which almost looks metallic. If you look close to the bullet, you can see the particles which cause this. When I wore this one yesterday, hubby said "wow such a stunning lipstick, it is metallic right?" and I was like "well, no, this is supposed to be matte!"

You can see that effect at the photo below, the middle of the lips catches the light. This stunning shade is unfortunately a little patchy during fading and after eating I had to remove the rest which was only around the lips. I also found it a bit more drying once compared to Stark Naked and Bittersweet but not too bad. I just have to make sure to get it with me and reapply after the meal.

And last but not least comes the star of the show. Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Blackmail is probably the deepest shade of lipstick I own. Oh how I love this one for a statement look. I wore it last Saturday since I didn't want to loose my new job haha! Anyway, I loved how this one looked on a white dress as a contrast. Below I am wearing eye shadow but no blush which is the part of the look. I have to get used to this but I think I like it! What do you think?

FOTD with Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Blackmail

Here are some comparisons for you. Urban Decay Matte Revolution Stark Naked is lighter and cooler than Tom Ford First Time (reviewed here) as well as MAC Pander Me (reviewed here). Oh I now noticed that I wrote First Kiss instead of First Time, my apologies. Urban Decay Bittersweet is more pink than Tom Ford Pussycat (reviewed here) and MAC Heroine, former is pinkie and the latter is more purple.

Urban Decay After Dark is very close to MAC Fashion Revival (it is previously worn in this look) and they are both deeper than Tom Ford Plum Lush. It is closer to but still deeper than Tom Ford Velvet Violet (reviewed here). Urban Decay Blackmail is much deeper than MAC Runner and Tom Ford Black Dahlia (reviewed here).

Final thoughts: I like the non-drying formula and satin-to-matte finish of Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks I have tried. Lighter colors are easier to wear for foodies if you are concerned about the even fading. Most of the shades in the line are unique and wearable. My favourites are Stark Naked and Bittersweet for daily looks. I like Blackmail on me more than I thought I would for a statement lip look.

Do you own any Urban Decay Lipsticks? What is your favourite shade?

  4. Hi Sunny,
I wore here no blush and tried to support the shade on the eyes. Maybe you can try the same trick. I think it is also not the best flattering shade on me, but I tried. I am excited about your UD posts since now you have it in Belgium too!

  6. Thanks Katherine,
I am getting used to vampy lips. I used to wear those during my teens then somehow got tired of it or something. So many years later I revive the concept for me ;-)

  8. Bittersweet is like a more wearable version of MAC Heroine! :D I'm SO glad it pulls purple on the actual lips because on your arm swatches, it leans a little too pink. Star Naked is also so so beautiful! However, on you I think you look best with Blackmail! Damn, talk about statement lips! I don't think I have anything like it in my collection. I probably should get one to try out but then again, I would probably never wear it outside. LOL.

  12. Hi Jaa,
yes you and me Heroine addicts (wait, this sounded so wrong!)
Be careful about the lip swatches though, everything leans purple on me lol.
Blackmail is really a statement, would you try that one too, I bet you would look good in that!

  15. Thanks, Sara! I'm working (almost) full-time now as a therapist and soon will be taking my exams so that I can officially be called a psychologist. It was very weird not having to go back to school this September after all of these years!
