Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne, Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent for Les Automnales Collection Fall 2015, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Count down started. Only four days left for my holiday and 3 days for my birthday. Right before I go there are some happy deliveries which are coming with me so that I can share with you throughout my holiday. Fall is my favorite make-up season and all the pieces are super exciting. Today it is about one of my favorite products I got to try out this season. I was just about to pass it because I am not big on khakis. I am so happy I haven't because it is more than a khaki quad. Today it is about Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne and its stunning combination with Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent. Spoiler? You need them both!

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne and Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent

I feel like I have been repeating this over and over again but Chanel reformulated their eye shadows last year and it became one of my all time favorite eye shadow formula. The shimmer is so complex and out of this world. Then they layer so beautifully, blend so effortlessly although they are very pigmented and dense. Pure love. Also the colors in the permanent line up (all swatched here) are to die for. I kept on purchasing and I am not ashamed to have all the palettes.

When the first photos of Les Automnales Collection became available I thought this one would be the first quad I will be passing from this formula. Khaki makes my under eye darkness super pretty (!) and blend with my eye color in a camouflage manner. Two good reasons to stay away. But how could I know, Chanel had another plan for this color range...

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne

What about combining khaki and bronze. Bronze! Love it so much, then add a light pink to the mix so once layered with other shades it wouldn't be too warm anymore. This is how they came up with Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne. Shades are as follows:

Top left: Mid-toned khaki green with golden shimmer and shimmery finish. Khaki lovers will die to get it all around their eyes. I prefer it at the outer corner combined with lots of pink and bronze.

Top right: A very pale neutral pink with shimmery finish. This is a great inner corner highlight. It can also be dusted under the brow bone or even on top of the cheeks and high points of the face. Shimmer is not too disco ball but it is very pigmented, so be careful not to get it with a very dense brush. What I love about this one is that it can be layered with the bronze/copper for a cooler look.

Bottom left: If you are going to kill me, let me put this shade on once more. Oh so stunning coppery bronze with such a multi dimensional shimmer. I want to paint my body with that, not just my eyes. It is a killer, doesn't matter where you decide to apply it.

Bottom right: A very deep khaki green with matte to satin finish. In the pan this shade looked so dry, as if it is going to come off in layers (see the left side of it?). Upon application, I am in love. It is a very dense matte, without being too dry and with no fall out. You can use it as liner, to deepen the crease and outer corner. It is right there if you would like a bit more drama, yes please!

There are four liners in the collection. I want all of them but started with the limited edition one. This one is so phenomenal, I certainly need a back up of this. It is very soft and applies beautifully. After 20 hours it was intact on the waterline! Amazing quality, beautiful shade. Big love.

Swatch: Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent

Below I am wearing the pink shade of the palette in the inner corner, bronze on the middle of the eyelid and khaki on the outer corner as well as crease, mixed a little bit with the deeper khaki. I am also wearing Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent along the water line and along the upper lash line. This eye look was so pretty, I couldn't help myself from checking it out all day. With Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne there are so many other looks I can think of. Can't wait to try all of them out once the weather gets a little cooler.

Here is the look in context. I am wearing  Chanel Joues Contraste #260 Alezane (review coming up) on the cheeks and Chanel Rouge Allure in Volage on the lips. The foundation I am using is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in B20.

FOTD: Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne, Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent

Final thoughts: Big love for both Chanel Les 4 Ombres #254 Tissé D'Automne and Stylo Yeux Waterproof #918 Ardent. These two are for me must haves from this collection. Great quality, texture and very unique color combination. Thumbs up!

Do you know of any khaki/bronze combination in a palette? I couldn't think of any, thus no comparisons in this post.

  1. Oh God, I need them both for sure! It's strange because while I have a lot of khakis and a lot of bronzes, I can't seem to think of any palette with a similar color theme. Either way, this is amazing and I'm glad you didn't sit it out!

  2. And now we all add this palette back to our wishlist :) Liners have very interesting colors too, both were created for you, Sara. You look great, as usual. off topic - suqqu limited palette looks so much alike the one from dior collection that i wonder how do companies pick the colors - some brands have very similar colors, while other brands seem to follow their own path. I remember the industry trends reports in colors, scents, etc, but I still hoped that there is some more sophisticated approach behind makeup creation than collecting all trending colors into one palette. You need to interview some makeup creative director on our behalf :)

  3. Oooh...love this look you have done! It definitely reads "fall" to me; so beautiful! I especially like the pairing of Volage with this palette. I found Volage somewhat frustrating to work with and haven't worn it much, but you've inspired me to give it another try for some fall looks with a nude lip.

  5. Oh gosh i was going to pass on this palette because it all looks so warm.... but now....... i think my heart just skipped a beat! This collection is coming out this weekend here.... can't wait!!!

  6. Gorgeous! I must say, since Peter Phillips left Chanel, their products are only getting better. Does that say something? Oh, and Dior is getting more and more disappointing. Does that say something? LOL!

  7. I'm slowly starting to experiment with non CF brands again and this collection definitely caught my eye! I can't help it...I love me a good khaki ;)

  8. HI Lily, interesting, recently I thought exactly the opposite - Chanel collection become brighter, shiner, weirder but less tasteful and wearable, while Dior now brings great wearable makeup, even if it looks less exciting at the first look than Chanel. Just a recent example - Dior Eye Reviver vs Chanel Entrelacs. I will of course buy this quint from Chanel, on inertia or for collection, but I will be using Dior Eye Reviver much more, even if there was much less buzz about it than about Entrelacs. Dior has more practical value for me in terms of makeup ROI. Everyone has different taste and it is very subjective subject, I am not trying to convince anyone in anything. Though, if you must say something about Peter Phillips I probably also must say something back :)

  9. I cannot wear Kharki at all, I would look ill. But I want the eyeliner for sure.

  10. Well, a neutral opinion here. Even though I am on the fence about purchasing this Chanel eye quad (too warm, but that stunning green is calling me especially from Sara's swatch) there is no doubt that it is totally gorgeous and to me outclasses the Cosmopolite quints. At the same time, I agree with you that Reviver is lovely, wearable, and has a great formula, and to me Entrelacs is just blah and looks like so many countless past Chanel quints that I am wondering why they bother. In fact, somehow, whether cool or warm the Chanel quints are rarely all that, the exception being the Ombre Perlees, which is like five IDOs in one palette. Wish they would do another one of those!

  11. I agree with you about Chanel's new formula. Totally in love with it! I'm going to get this palette but I think I'm going to try the new greenish black liner to go with these shadows.

  12. OMG, that quad is gorgeous!!! Those are 4 of my fave colors for my brown eyes, especially love olive khaki greens. I've been eyeing the Chanel quads for the longest time, so this is probably the one to grab

  13. I was thinking the same thing!! I have a lot of green and brown shadows, but none in one palette. I knew you were going to like this one :)

  14. Hi Grlnxdor,

I have the liner in Feuille and it is perfect with this quad. I love a soft smoky effect around my lashes and so I use Feuille as the "anchor" and then smudge it with a bit of the darkest green from the quad. Stunning! Feuille is a beautiful blackened green that lets me add a deep, yet subtle, color without it being obviously green. Chanel did a really great job interpreting forest colors this year.

  15. Eileen, I've always valued your opinion! I can't wait to get to the Chanel counter!

  16. Thanks so much for the insight Eileen. I haven't been to the counter myself yet since the collection will first be released in October here. I am definitely going to check the liners and get them. I am also eyeing the taupe/golden liner from the collection. Stylo Yeux wears on my waterline very well and the shades are so beautiful and complex. Forest greens are beautiful in this collection but I especially like the idea of combining it with rich reddish bronze.

  17. Hi Katherine,
this one is so going to be yours. I can assure you, you can't go wrong with the new Tissé Chanel Quads, the finish is so complex and textues are buttery. They also have great pay-offs.

  18. Hi Donna,
khakis are also not my favorite color but in this combination it works for me. For you I would recommend on the the other quads, they are all superb in quality.

  19. Hi Jess,
at least someone likes the make-up. At Russian boards they are right now discussing how terrible my make-up looks. *sigh*
Volage is a nice effortless lipstick, you should take it out.

  20. Thanks Jenny,
yes it is an unusual and great color combo for Fall season, can't wait to wear it.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

  21. Hi Jane,
now I just read Russian board and they were discussing how terrible the makeup in this post is
*sigh* It is still nice to hear there are people over there who likes it. This one is done in 20-25 min in the morning, as usual.
About the trends... I am intrigued to see how Suqqu one compares to this one. You are right sometimes many brands release similar shades at the same time. But if you look at last year and this year's Fall collections there are similarities as well. I believe there are just too many brands and not too many seasonal themes. ;-)
Trying to interview the creative minds is a good idea. I might try to get someone to interview ;-)

  22. Yes this is such a nice combination, I don't know how they didn't come up with that before. It is a beautiful palette.

  23. I am sure you can, after your post about the brushes production :) I don't know which Russian board you saw (there are just too many), but you should better not read them. There are many great smart bloggers in Russia, but there are also lots of boards, where people are very narrow-minded and shallow in a sense that they are very judgmental about everyone and everything (Angelina Jolie is an ugly anorexic woman who looks older than her actual age and wears awful clothes, by their high standards :)). I guess they wanted more blending. In Russian they love blending, books can be written and movies can be filmed about blending, how much they love it. Eyeshadow should be blended into nothing, hours will be spent on it. And I don't mind it, but more and more often I notice in such looks that I actually don't see any eyeshadow anymore. If you have not blended, then you did not want to, not because you don't know how, lol. It is great to do something creative and different than the crowd likes. I sometimes now do less blending too, or add pointed color strokes after I blended too much, it looks more interesting, especially with such distinctive colors as in this palette. I am not even sure that strong blending would look good with such colors.

  24. Hi Sara , new subscriber here , loving your posts . I just wondered if you had any idea when is the release date for this Chanel Autumn collection in the UK ? Thanks so much :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. Really?? I am so sorry to hear that. People love to use the anonymity of the Internet as an excuse to be super b*tchy.

I know it's really easy for me to say as the person who isn't being sh*t-talked on makeup boards, but try not to pay too much attention to it. You'll never please all of the people all of the time. Makeup is really subjective, and I loved this look so much that I felt the need to comment on it and I plan to replicate it! I think as soon as your blog becomes big enough to have fans, it becomes big enough to have detractors. Those people aren't the ones putting their faces out there for the world to see. Temptalia is super popular but I've seen plenty of comments criticizing her, too. Remember, opinions are like a$sholes: everybody's got one.;-)

I understand that those comments must be hard to read; it would upset me too. I would say just keep doing what you're doing. If people don't like your style, they don't have to read here, and there are plenty of people (like me) who appreciate what you do. <3

  26. LOL Linda,
have you ended up with the palette? I thought I remember you telling me you were buying the full collection ;-)

  27. Hi Jane,
thanks for your comment. It is right, make-up is subjective but to make something "terrible", it takes a lot. Also I think I should stop reading comments on forums but I can't help it when there are so many people directed from one site. I was especially disappointed because I posted all the swatches in another review, so they didn't have to link to this one if they don't like the "make-up" but they linked especially to make fun of it. *sigh* . Sometimes I wonder why am I ever wasting time & money. But thanks so much for your support, as always.

  28. Hi Jane,
it was Cosmo board, I believe it is a busy one because I noticed it when there was traffic flowing from there. It is so funny what they wrote about Angelina Jolie hahaha, makes me feel better, at least they didn't say ugly for me but only pointed out my terrible make-up which can be washed off :-P

I was disappointed not because they didn't like the make-up, which is ok since it is so different around the world but although there is a post with all the swatches they can refer to (which they also linked) they linked this post additionally just to make fun of me and gossip about it. I thought I put so much effort and not deserve this, if you know what I mean.

  29. Sara, happy belated birthday! I saw your reply on another post. Have a great year ahead and good luck with all your projects and new job!
I don't know cosmo forum, but I can imagine the level. Sorry, Sara. You deserve only love and gratitude and there are enough people who like you a lot :) Especially this Chanel collection you probably had to ship it from US, it is such a hassle to get it ahead of time and make swatches. On the most famous beauty review resource kosmetista, all negative comments are banned, which I think is a good idea, considering the high variations in cultural levels in Russia - from very high moral and good artistic taste to very low and nasty. About celebrities they write much worse things, I summarized it about Angelina, so you could imagine the degree of nonsence and would not take it seriously :)
I noticed that in Russia many girls see themselves as superior creatures, sort of we are the most beautiful/feminine women in the world and only we know how to use makeup, so we can judge. Sort of I am a looser, but I am a super woman with a super makeup and it is all that matters for a woman. There are lots of factors for it, but the perfectionism of makeup and appearance overall is extreme, shallow and tiring. I hope it is just a temporary stage and of course many women are way above it, independent, smart and making careers. This all comes from deep personal insecurities, unstable environment and fact that women in Russia are still evaluated a lot by their looks and it is an important factor of their "success" in life (finding someone rich). As I understand the reasons, I feel rather sorry for them because they will never be like you, Sara, they know it and they are envious. Anyway, I hope that as a side effect of this traffic, some adequate people will also visit your blog and stay. Or you will inspire them and turn into adequate people, so you are doing almost a missionary job ;)

  30. Hi Tracey,
I don't know the release date for UK officially but I believe to have read that special Chanel stores (Covent Garden) get the collection in the second week of August and other stores a week after that. I hope that it helps.

  31. If you love Khakis, you will love this collection. Although I am not a khaki fan, I ended up loving it :-)

  32. I love the Chanel reformulated formula too, but the only quad I've picked up so far is Tisse Rivoli. It's extreme love, but I wish they'd come up with another set I can use ;). I wish they'd bring back Poesie...I passed because it was too similar to TR but now I have such regrets LOL. This is just too warm for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like how fresh this color combination looks on you. It's not boring at all, not "done that before" look.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have Poesie. It is the only "new" palette I have from last year and I love it. Chanel doesn't repeat its products. I"m sure there will be other new color combinations in the future. I've used Chanel make-up since the 90s. If you find something you like and it is a limited edition. They really do mean that. Get it right away!

    ReplyDelete
  35. They just repeated New Moon and last year Eastern Light. But I do normally jump at ltd editions I love. I just probably didn't need another quad so similar to Tisse Rivoli. Nice to meet another Chanel lover!
