Blog Post Series, Tom Ford Quads VIII: The Green, #08 Sahara Haze

You thought it was over?
Before Orchid Haze, there was Sahara Haze. A harmony in ivory, taupe and greens.
And today I would like to talk about it.

Tom Ford Eye Color Quad #08 Sahara Haze

I am not going to lie. Sahara Haze was never one of my favorite quads of the brand. Maybe it is because I don't prefer greens on me. Or maybe it is due to other quads being so much prettier. But each time I get to wear it, I end up liking the resulting effect. It doesn't blow my mind and makes me watch the shades in awe, like Silvered Topaz does but nevertheless Sahara Haze is one of my favorite green quads. I have to admit I like this one more than Dior's Bonne Etoile (previously reviewed here) which leans too blue for my taste, but maybe it is just me.

The eye shadow shades of the palette are as follows:
  • A warm ivory with satin finish (top left)
  • A mid-toned grey taupe with satin finish (top right)
  • A deep cool brown with sparse gold shimmer (bottom right)
  • A semi-transparent forest green base with silver and golden glitter (bottom left).

What I like about Sahara Haze is that, if you put aside the glitter shade, you can use the other three for a classic taupe/grey smokey eye. Then once you pad the semi transparent shade on them, you end up getting a dense forest green eye look, which, for me, is one of the shades of green that suits my complexion most. The resulting green is not leaning blue, just maybe slightly gold which is exactly how I like it.

Swatch under sun: Tom Ford Eye Color Quad #08 Sahara Haze

Below picture was taken before holidays, oh my, look how pale and red I was, ugh! ;-)

Anyway I think it is good enough to demonstrate the effect I was just talking about. For this one I applied the grey/taupe (top right) all over the lid, ivory (top left) on the inner corner and brown (bottom right) to define the crease and the outer half of my upper lash line. At this point it was looking not that exceptional. I then padded some of the green glitter (bottom left) with my fingers and voilà, I had different shades of green depending on the previous application spot. This look was of course much more interesting in real life because of the light reflected by the glitters.

Final thoughts: A solid green palette for day or night as you fancy. Semi-transparent glitter is gorgeous and reveals different shades of green depending on which other shade it was layered on. Definitely worth checking out.

Do you like wearing greens on your eyes? Which shade of green is your favorite?

    1. Thanks Natalia! They say use the opposite color but with the right shade of close color, it seems to work as well :-)

    1. LOL, thanks so much. There actually is no magic technique involved, all I have is a dense shader brush ;-)

    1. Remembering how stunning you applied Bonne Etoile, this green/taupe combi would look gorgeous on you too!

  4. Now I'm 100% sure that you & I have really different skin tones, though we are both warm. Something about these types of greens just don't look right on me, though in theory, I LOVE greens. Doesn't think also remind you of the Suqqu Kokedama quad? I ended up getting rid of it (mostly due to quibbles on quality), but the grey/green/shimmer story reminds me a fair bit of Sahara Haze. This totally looks like a perfect neutral quad on you and very flattering on your skin tone.

    1. LOL, I really don't know why what is so different about your and my skin tone, we both wear Chanel B20 as far as I know. Maybe the undertones?
Khaki shades look like mud on me though. This is why I never considered Kokedama. I think that one wouldn't work on me either.

  5. This looks like a palette for me! I don't understand why you don't like greens because it looks just lovely on you! I love the selection of finishes too, not too over the top and very wearable!

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment Teri. I think only certain greens work on me. Once they start getting khaki, it look rather muddy for my taste. You are very right about the finishes, it is a well curated palette.

  7. Your eye color is very similar to mine. Its a very unique color. I've always struggled with what looks good on me. I've been looking through your blog these last couple of weeks to figure out which Tom Ford eye shadows I should purchase. Every time I think I've decided, I change my mind. They all look marvelous on you! I can't decide. Thank you for taking the time to post swatches and actual looks.

    1. LOL, this is good that we have the same eye color. It is a little unique in the way it is two colors rather than one. The middle is more hazel and outside is green. Do you have the same feature as well? There are some ways to make use of it, using different colors you can accentuate one or the other shade.

    2. Yes, my eyes are green with yellow/hazel in the center. If I wear copper colors, it shows the hazel more. If I wear purple or taupes, it shows the green more. I see Turkish is one of your languages. I'm from northern greece, so maybe that explains our similar eye color.
I purchased Silver Topaz quad today but I'm not sure if I should have chosen one of the others instead for my first one (seductive rose or orchid haze). I've read a few bad reviews about the quality of Silver Topaz compared to the other quads. I know it's all subjective but what is your opinion?

    3. Oh the geography. We might be distant relatives ;-)

I don't know who wrote bad review about Silvered Topaz but I don't agree with that person. It is my all time favourite TF quad and each time I wear it I remember why... Let me know if you love it as much as I do, after you wear it. xox

    1. Hi Yin, great to see you around.
Oh my first TF quad was Burnished Amber, this is why I have some unexplained love towards it LOL. It might be the same between you and Sahara Haze? ;-)
Let me know how you like the brushes, only 6 weeks left! Maybe they even deliver a little before...

  9. I finally caved and bought Sahara Haze as an early xmas present. But, as long as I've lusted for it, I must say that I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed by it lol. I'm sure it will grow on me because I love this kind of greens on my eyes... Maybe I was expecting more magic because of the price tag lol.
