Clinique Spring Look feat. Lid Pop, Cheek Pop and Pop Glaze, #Playwithpop, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Happy Easter holidays!

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. In Germany we have an extended weekend which means Friday and Monday are also holidays. Since I have much to do for the new semester, I have to work today but I am still enjoying the feeling of having tomorrow free.

Clinique recently released bunch of new products such as sheer lipsticks called Pop Glaze and lip glosses called Pop Lacquers. Cheek Pops have been a phenomenon since years in the States but we didn't have them at shops in Germany (I believe some were online exclusives). With this release, they are also easily accessible. Matching to the flower theme, now there are Lid Pops for your eyes too. Clinique promoted the products in four looks on new Swedish star Zara Larsson. There are vamp, sweet, nude and power looks to select from. (see them here) You wouldn't believe that I went for sweet! Here is my interpretation of that and some thoughts about the products I got to try.

Clinique Lid Pop, Cheek Pop and Pop Glaze, Pep-Start

Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream

Before I start with the color part of the review, I would like to mention about Clinique's new eye cream Pep-Start which I am really enjoying at the moment. For the price point I think it does a great job at hydrating the under eye area. It has a cream consistency which doesn't feel very cooling upon application like some other eye creams but it is absorbed well and the effect lasts longer than many other products I have tried. When I apply it at night, in the morning I still feel the smoothness under my eyes. My only complain is the packaging, which is a little hard to understand. You have to pull the sphere out and squeeze the tube. Once you push the sphere back, I don't like the fact that some more product comes out. All in all if you are searching for an affordable eye cream, I highly recommend you try this one out. It costs around 25€ for 15 ml.

Clinique Lid Pop, Cheek Pop and Pop Glaze, Pep-Start
Cheek Pops

These are famous for being affordable, being pretty and very good quality at the same time. All I can say is that, it deserves all the hype. The flower pattern is really stunning and the plexiglass packaging doesn't feel cheap since it is not too thin. I love the fact that you can see the color of the blush from outside the packaging. A plus is that even after many usages, the pattern doesn't disappear so somehow they managed to preserve the pattern while offering a nicely pigmented, easy to apply product. Honestly, even Chanel couldn't manage it until now so big thumbs up there.

I have two shades, one of them was in a Christmas Set last year, #14 Heather Pop but I would like to include it because I know in some countries some of the shades can be found as store exclusives. Heath Pop is not available in Germany but you can order it from Sephora at the moment. Jen has a great post for Heather Pop and Cola Pop and makes me want to order Cola Pop right away.

#04 Plum Pop is not so much plum but a great shade for everyday, especially for fresh looking spring and summer looks. It goes very well with Pop Glaze Bubblegum Pink, therefore they are paired for Sweet Look.

Lid Pops

This is the only product from the line-up that leaves me with mixed feelings. The packaging and the pattern is beautiful, also I like the shades which are offered. The consistency which works beautiful for blushes doesn't seem to work all that well for the eyeshadows though. The lighter shades lack pigmentation and doesn't show up well on my eyelids. #02 Cream Pop was the shade for the Sweet Look but it is a very light wash of color even with a very dense brush. #10 Grape Pop shows up well but it has some transparency which I am not so much fond of. That transparency makes it easier to wear though so a light wash of color is achievable by this very deep looking purple. I also wished these would be more blendable. What I like is the fact that it has a nice reflection property and that it stays long on my lids without any signs of fading or creasing.

Here are some swatches of products I have used for the looks below. I am also enjoying Chubby Stick Shadow #07 Pink & Plenty which has a lonely duo chrome finish. I like it more as a base since on its own, it doesn't show up well on me. I have to yet try it on a deeper base.

Pop Glaze

I only have one shade so it is hard to give a review on that. I will try to check out more shades and let you know. As for the time being, I love this one. The transparency but yet a good deal of color, very hydrating and rather long staying among the casual sheer lipsticks makes it worth giving it a try. Bubblegum Pink is stunning. It gives such a fresh spring look, love it! I have to try more plummy shades.

Swatches: Chubby Stick Eyeshadow Pink & Plenty, Lid Pop #02, #10, Cheek Pop #04, #14, Pop Glaze #06 Bubblegum

Here are some looks to give you an idea how the products apply. I am wearing

  • Clinique Lip Pop #10 Grape Pop on the outer half of the lids
  • Clinique Lid Pop #2 Cream Pop on the inner third of the lids
  • Clinique Skinny Stick Stylo Yeux Ultra-Fin #03 Slim Sable along the upper and lower lash line as liner.
  • Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara on my eye lashes

A few more notes about the products I haven't mentioned above. I really like Skinny Sticks on me since they are so fine and easy to get between the lashes. Be cautious though if things smudge on you. I like how easily it smudges because I don't like definite lines on me but if you don't like liners smudge, those might not be the best option for you. I also enjoy Chubby Lash Mascara at the moment, it really makes the lashes fuller. I have to take a few more actions to make sure that the curl holds though.

In-action: Clinique Lid Pop #02 Cream Pop, #10 Grape Pop

Here is the rest of the face, the products are:

  • Tom Ford Bronzer in Terra (reviewed here)
  • Clinique Cheek Pop #04 Plum Pop on the apples of the cheeks
  • Clinique Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Color and Primer #06 Bubblegum Pop on the lips

I am also wearing a shirt I just purchased from Just White. These have very playful buttons and designs, love the brand, here is more information, I have no affiliation, just like their products.

FOTD: Clinique Lid Pop #02 Cream Pop, #10 Grape Pop, Cheek Pop #04 Plum Pop, Pop Glaze #06 Bubblegum

For the look below I applied Clinique Lid Pop #10 Grape Pop on the inner and outer third of the lid and added #02 Cream Pop in the middle. I liked the eyes again with the Clinique Skinny Stick #03 Slim Sable and smudged it a little to give a smoky look. I completed the look with Chubby Lash Mascara.

FOTD: Clinique Lid Pop #02 Cream Pop, #10 Grape Pop, Cheek Pop #14 Heather, Lip color #23 Blush Pop

Here is the look in context. I am wearing one of my favorite Nude Lipstick Combo, the products are:

  • Clinique Quick Liner For Lips Intense #07 Intense Blush as a liner and make the lipstick last longer.
  • Clinique Pop Lip Color #23 Blush Pop on the lips
  • Clinique Cheek Pop #14 Heather Pop on the cheeks.

FOTD: Clinique Lid Pop #02 Cream Pop, #10 Grape Pop, Cheek Pop #14 Heather, Lip color #23 Blush Pop

Check out Melissa's blog, today she also presents you some new Clinique Products.

Final thoughts: My picks from all the products I have tried are Cheek Pops, they are just perfect! I am truly falling for Lip Glaze in Bubblegum Pink as well. I need more shades of the formula. Lid Pops are nice if you are in for a wash of color but nothing too dramatical. They last well and they look so pretty with the flower pattern. Chubby Lash mascara makes your lashes chubby, enjoying it too.

Have you tried any of these? What is your favorite Clinique product?

  1. Die Optik allein ist ja schon ein Kaufanreiz. Ich hatte damals die ersten Blushes bei Müller gesehen. Allerdings in einem extra Aufsteller.

  2. Loving your pretty Spring photos at the moment. I haven't looked at this but am very tempted by those cheek colours. Happy Easter holiday to you. Susan, London

  3. Sara, I'm wondering if your Pep-Start packaging is defective. Once I push the ball back down, the tube is sealed and I don't have any extra product come out. Since I carry this in my purse, that's something I'd quickly notice. As for the plastic ball tip applicator, I think it is rather silly. It in no way replicates the cool sensation that the metal ball tip applicators have. The Pep-Start product itself, though, I really like. Although I start out with very well-moisturized skin, having dry, mature skin means my under eye area can dry out as the day wears on. Consequently, I like to carry something in my purse to smooth and hydrate that area as needed. I squeeze out a little bit onto my index finger, rub my two index fingers together and then lightly pat the cream onto the eye area. Presto change-o! :-). It immediately dispatches the dry look and by patting it on rather than applying it with the applicator, it doesn't interfere with my makeup. Because I let my serums and moisturizer do the heavy lifting when prepping my face (including the eye area), I don't know how Pep-Start would work for women who rely heavily on eye cream as the primary way of getting moisture to that area, but as a touch up, Pep-Start is doing a wonderful at keeping my eye area looking smooth, soft, and hydrated. It has a light texture, it comes in an easy to carry plastic tube, it contains lots of the goodies (antioxidant, peptides, etc.) we know are good for skin, and it can be reapplied as needed. Not bad for US $26.

I hope you are enjoying a beautiful Easter Sunday. I know that things are pretty tense in Europe at the moment but hopefully the promise of renewal, optimism, and faith that the holiday brings will lighten everyone's heart--and that's a message that people of any religion, or none at all, can embrace. Happy Easter

  4. That look is very pretty on you and I am liking the Nude lip too this Spring. Thanks for the liner recommendation -- have to look into it. Last Spring, I got a lot of the Cheek pops but ended up returning many of them. They seemed to fade very quickly and had to be applied heavily. I think the exception was Pansy pop which I kept and use because I really love the purplish color. On the other hand, the lip products were exceptional and I got and still use them all far more regularly than a lot of other lipsticks. So I am not going for the blushes this season but will add to the lipsticks. I also did not like texture of the eyeliner and it broke off easily-- at one point they had a whole set-- so that went back. Glad you have better luck.

  5. I got the eye cream recently and I hope I will enjoy it as much as you do. My under eye area aged 10 years in just a couple of months...

  6. Ich habe die Pep-Start auch und mag sie wirklich gerne. Aber wenn ich die Kugel zurückdrücke, kommt kein Produkt bei mir mehr raus. In die Blushes bin ich auch ganz verliebt.....

  7. Thanks for the link love! I was slightly confused by the eye cream packaging too at first. It took me a few minutes to figure out that it has a pull-up applicator. As for the make-up, well, you know I'm a fan :-) Bubblegum Pop just screams spring! Cream Pop looks a lot brighter in your pics! But that's lighting for you I guess... no two pictures are ever the same.

  8. Ooh I really like the lid pop colors! They seem like a really nice choice for a not so dramatic look. I actually don't own any cheek products from Clinique! But these look really beautiful!

  9. My favorites from Clinique: Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer - now discontinued in Greece :( - Sunscreen Body Cream SPF 50 , I use it also on my face - same product-ingredients identical to the face cream , I get more with the body version , I use and like also the Cleansing Balm . To inform you, my skin is dry.

  11. I was surprised you went for Sweet, but then I saw Grape Pop and i understood! It's a beautiful shade, love that!!

  12. I love the Cheek Pops and the Lid Pops are great too. I actually like that they do NOT pack a punch in pigmentation, and I could layer it on if I wanted more intensity. I can't wait for it to be available here so I could play with all the shades. I have Cocoa Pop for now, and Willow Pop looks great.

  15. Thanks Susan,
cheeks colors are the stars of the collection I think. You also like sheer lipsticks, check out the new ones. I will post about two other shades soon. Xox

  16. Hi Eileen,
it might really be that my Pep-Start package has an issue. Not only you but some others mentioned that they don't have a problem with it. I agree with you about the silly applicator but it is safe as you already pointed out which matters in the end. I also apply it in a way you just mentioned using my fingers.
Thank you so much about the second part of your comment. It took me a little longer than usual to answer you, sorry for that. You are so right, we need optimism that everything will be fine. What terror is trying to do is to take that away. It is always a pleasure to read your comments. Wish you a lovely weekend.

  18. Hi Lily,
I like Grape-Pop on the eyes but Cream-Pop almost doesn't show, so for that formula with a bit of transparency I think it is better to pick the deeper shades. Cocoa Pop is also deeper so probably that is why you like it. I just picked up Cocoa Pop too, will give it a try soon.

  19. LOL, yes I would like to sing the song "sweet about me, nothing sweet about me!" ;-))
Actually Grape Pop was not included in the look. I asked them to send it because I am purple addicted :-p

  22. Hi Gosia,
please let us know what you think of that one. I am really liking it, especially for the price, it is great!

  23. Girl, I opened the package in another way and removed the cap completely at first haha.
Maybe that way I broke it because others say nothing should come out when you push it back.

  24. Hi Mika,
yes these have a certain transparency so the look is softer and more wearable. If I were to get one product, I would go for the blushes though, they are fab.

  25. These are great tips, thanks so much for sharing. I didn't know that the body and face have the same formula. I believe these usually are different when it comes to PH levels. My skin is dry too, I will check that out. Thanks again

  26. Take a sample of the Clinique Smart Treatment Oil , I like it for my slightly dry skin at night , it has antioxidants and non fragrant the plant oils . One drop mixed with heavy foundations gives a smooth blending - finish. I use it for 15 days now,no reaction so far.
