Bumble and Bumble BB.Curl Collection for Bouncing Up Those Curls, Review & FOTD

It is so hard to get motivated at home. Who would think that? I can't get anything done. I hope your week was more productive than mine. Mine flew out of the window, never to be seen again *cries*. Please share your tips about how to get things done while staying at home. I desperately need them!

Today's post is for dear fellow Curly Sues out there. When Bumble and Bumble released their new BB.Curl range for us, I got so excited, I must have shouted "Give'em all to me!". How lucky that they (almost) did or did it fall from heaven? Either way I have been using them for two weeks now. Today I would like to share my first impressions with you and follow up with another post in a week or two. In the next post I would like to also write about Bumble and Bumble Full Potential Line which I am testing for a couple of months now. Today it is about the curls though, because I just didn't want to wait. May some of these products save your curls? After the jump.

Bumble and Bumble BB.Curl Collection Products

When I look back, I regret all the days I tried to straighten my hair but there was this super straight hair phenomena during 90s, remember? Now it is our time girls, it is all about the volume so let's bring back the sexy, playful, bouncy curls, as a friend of mine used to call it "the hair which turns around itself".

When it comes to curls, one of the problems is the frizziness and dryness which might make hair look unruly. I usually use lots of oil on my hair to prevent that. Sometimes there are alto anti frizz products but some of these effect how the curls look like and not always in a good way. The challenge for any curly hair care & style product is to hydrate while managing to preserve the shape.

Bumble and Bumble's BB.Curl range has six products, five of which I tried for you. These are composed of two categories, Care category has a shampoo and a conditioner. Style Category has a primer, defining creme, conditioning mousse and anti humid gel-oil. All products are given to be free of alcohol, parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

BB.Curl Care Products

#1 BB.Curl Shampoo: Of course a shampoo doesn't accentuate the curly hair. What it does is that it makes sure that it doesn't dry out, which is especially great if you have dry & curly hair *shows herself*. It is full of moisturizing ingredients. It has Capuacu Butter, Brazil Nut Oil, Babassu Oil, Pracaxi Oil as well as Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid. If you are having dry moments with your hair, you also shouldn't use the shampoo so very often. You can co-wash or not wash which brings us to the next product...

#2 BB.Curl Custom Conditioner: This is a very gentle conditioner which you can even leave in. It can also be used to wash the hair without using shampoo (so called co-wash) or it can be rinsed out. Until now, I preferred to rinse it but I will definitely try to co-wash next, I like the fancy name! Custom Conditioner has similar hydrating formula to the shampoo and even more,  Glycerin, Urea, Squalane, Barley Extract, Wheat Germ Extract are a few extras. This is the first time I see Squalene (big fan here!) in the list, love that!

Now how I feel about these two. As for shampoo & conditioner, I have been head over heels with Bumble and Bumble's Full Potential Line. BB.Curl Line both the conditioner and the shampoo are much more light weight, with much less perfume (again not to dry things out). I can see benefits of this on the long run as the hair stays hydrated. I recommend both of the products if you especially have dry hair.

BB.Curl Style Products

BB.Curl Pre-Style/Re-Style Primer: If I were to get one product from the line to change my life, this would be it! This primer not only definitely helps to style the curls easily after washing, it does a great job the second day when you wake up and see your bouncy round curls flattened out by your pillow. I just spray a little bit of this and cool blow dry. The hair gets back its volume and it looks almost new. This way you don't have to wash your hair everyday and spare the extra drying out and frizziness while letting out the natural oils work their magic.

BB.Curl Defining Cream: I am not so much into creams since I think they make the hair heavier and thus less curly. This one really hydrates nicely though and take away the frizziness. I think it is best to select between this one and Anti-Humidity Gel Oil and use just one of them. According to Bumble and Bumble Defining Cream is more for wavy hair to curly hair while Anti-Humidity Gel Oil is more for those with Jackson 5 tendency. Just try try it out I used both of the products in small amounts and it worked fine. On the website there are nice tutorials which show how to get your curls under control and there either one or the other is used. I can see using this one in Summer when I don't blow dry so don't use a mousse, it might come handy.

BB.Curl Anti-Humidity Gel Oil: It is a light weight oil which is recommended especially for getting very curly hair under control. I used this one to get rid of some flying frizzy annoyance and it worked nicely without looking oily. It has the same hydrating ingredients as the rest of the line such as Capuacu Butter, Brazil Nut Oil, Babassu Oil, Pracaxi Oil, Glycerin and Sucrose. It is supposed to be used on clean and damp hair, not for the next day when you want to get rid of a few hair flying, then the best option is the primer.

Here an FOTD to show my curls with BB.Curl Line. I am wearing Tom Ford make-up. Midnight Violet Cream Color on eyes, Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Color in Exposed on lips, Tom Ford Bronzer Terra and Cheek Color Ravish on the cheeks as well as Moodlight highlighter. You can guess a review is coming up soon.

FOTD with Bumble and Bumble BB.Curl Collection for Hair Care & Styling

Final thoughts: BB.Curl got me very excited because perfect curls are not only about silicons and sticky polymers but it is also about hydrating and getting rid of frizziness. I am loving the shampoo and conditioner because they are especially done to moisturize. For me the life changing product of the line is Pre-/Re-Style Primer, which is great to restyle and recreate the bouncy volume you have even two days after the washing. Oh and I love the campaign slogan, "An Epic Blend of Control & Chaos", that certainly what my curls need.

Availability/Price: I have seen that on BB Website if you spend over 35$ there is an option to get a BB.Curl Starter Kit to try these out. They are now available. Shampoo is 250 ml. 32.50€, Conditioner 200 ml 35.50€, Primer 250 ml 28€, Defining Cream is 250 ml for 29.50€, Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil is 90 ml and costs around 29.50€.

Have you tried any of these products or eyeing any?
What are your tips & tricks for bouncy curls?

  1. I have super curly hair (I would say a bit curlier than yours, but not as thick), so I found this review really interesting! I have been curious about this line ever since I heard of it, and after reading your review, I am definitely interested in checking out the primer and the gel-oil. My hair has tons of body but is very fine, and tends to get very, very dry and frizzy.
My current hair care routine includes using hair masks instead of conditioner (I use two by Wella and alternate them: one is supposed to add protein to the hair and one is supposed to add keratin, or something like that!), and I use two Moroccanoil products: the actual oil and the curl defining cream. I use them even though I hate the smell of Moroccanoil products. I know some people love it, but I hate it, even though I'm pretty much used to it now!

  2. The primer sounds good. And I will look to get it. My waves are pretty loose, but I am getting tired of pulling my hair into pony tail because it is not quite there yet so I am going to try this. Thank you!

  3. On Bumble and Bumble website there are some ways to create waves. I will try some of those with these products but I need more pins. Have to order them. Check out and let me know if it works for you.

  4. You are right about how thick my hair is lol. I think Oil Gel might be working even better on yours since it calls down whatever is flying around lol. It is done for that purpose. Try it out and let me know how it worked. It is a good idea to go for gentle washing and conditioning products rather than those which dry the hair. I haven't tried Moroccanoil yet, I have to yet do it. Now you got me curious about the scent. These products don't have much scent to them, so it won't be a problem for you.
