Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #01 Ripe Plum, #02 Raw Jade, #03 Crushed Indigo, Swatches & First Impressions, for Spring 2015

I am so excited for today's post. Partly because it is about one of my all time favorite brands, Tom Ford and partly since I waited so long for these to be released. All those media images making me drool, it was not fair. The last releases of the brand were more concentrated on the lips and you know I am more of a smoked eye, all about that gaze, kind of gal, which is another reason why I am going crazy about these products... Tom Ford Eye Color Duos!

Tom has done it again. In Spring everyone goes pastel, pink dress, lady, Cinderella, girly girl with a sweet smile, Tom goes rock'n roll. Bring it on Tom, I am so over pastels!

Today it is about first impressions and swatches kind of post for those of you who can't wait to place an order (I feel you). I will post detailed reviews and eye looks in a few days so stay tuned for those as well.

Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #01 Ripe Plum, #02 Raw Jade, #03 Crushed Indigo
Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #01 Ripe Plum, #02 Raw Jade, #03 Crushed Indigo

There are three duos in the collection. These are with Tom Ford wet & dry formula such as recently released Nude Dip or previous releases, Enchanted and Emerald Lust. Each duo comes with an opalescence light shade and a deep smokey shade. There is a color for everyone's heart, green, blue, and, of course plum! Deeper shades as well as the lighter shades are very wearable on their own and can be layered for gorgeous light effects. Below you can find swatches of each shade and also a layered one.

The swatches below are all performed dry, you can use these also wet, which will make them even more intense. I will show these on the eye looks later on.

Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #01 Ripe Plum

And plum, *happy sigh*. Let me start with Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #01 Ripe Plum. I am wearing it today and I am so loving it. Good news for folks who like natural eye looks, the deep shade is rather a brown which leans slightly purple. If it is worn on its own, looks very natural. The magic happens once you layer the pink opalescence shade on top, there comes plum and purple in life.  It is not easy to capture the beauty of the light shade, it is opalescent duo-chrome perfection.

The green one, Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #02 Raw Jade will probably won't look the best on my complexion but still I couldn't resist the temptation. Some say they look punched in the eye with a plum all over, me I look like I got trashed all week long when I wear greens. Probably these accentuate the olive rings (not as pretty and yummy as it sounds) under my eyes, who knows.

Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #02 Raw Jade

The darker shade in Raw Jade is a warm khaki green with golden shimmer. The light shade is very unique. I have seen pink opalescent shades in the past but I don't recall a green one? It is so pretty! With just a little bit of the dark shade mixed in, it becomes so intense and beautiful. I can't wait to try it on! Again it is hard to capture the beauty of the lightest shade.

Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #03 Crushed Indigo is for blue lovers. I don't wear blue all that often but the tone of blue in this duo is not too cool. I think it would work on many skin tones. While I was swatching I have notice though that the formula of the other two duos are more buttery than this one. The dark shade in Crushed Indigo felt a little dry. I will repost about it in more detail after I try it out properly.

Tom Ford Eye Color Duo #03 Crushed Indigo

The deeper shade of Crushed Indigo is like bringing the night sky with blue stars if that makes sense. Once the day sky meets it, they form a lovely mid-metallic blue. I can see this one being particularly flattering on brown eyes, making them pop. Blue makes my eyes yellow (scary!) but I am willing to try.

Final thoughts: I love the concept and the realization. These must be the most beautiful duos I have owned to date. I will report about how they perform in a few days. Just by the swatches, I feel that #01 Ripe Plum, #02 Raw Jade may perform better than #03 Crushed Indigo, which felt a little drier compared to the other two.

Availability: Now the collection is available in UK at Selfridges. Tom Ford website in the States is showing preorder but it is expected to be released very soon. I don't have information about Germany release but I will update as soon as I know more.

Are you eyeing any of these?

  2. These are SO cool! When I first saw the images, I was wondering why they'd put a white in every one of them. Now that I've seen them swatched and layered, they have completely changed my mind! Can't wait to see these on you!

    1. Hi Sunny,
same here, I was like, what white? how? why?
Now that is a good idea with these duo chrome shades to layer, it is what I would like Guerlain duos would be like, but unfortunately that glitter is not me. But duo chromes, yes please!

  4. Ah, the plum and the khaki one... *drool!* I did read a review on Crushed Indigo and the performance is pretty average. Like you said, it's drier than the other 2. Can't wait for your full on follow up review. I have an itch for Ripe Plum especially...

  5. I'm in love with how these look layered- oh so pretty! Can't wait to see what you do with them! I think the blue would be the hard one for me. Plum is usually safe as long as I can correct my undereyes somewhat, and green is always welcome on my vanity. :)

    1. Hi Rach,
if blue is anyway hard, don't go with it because it is a little drier than the other two. Green would look awesome on you as well. I have to correct my underage for the green, crazy huh?

  6. The sales assistant in Selfridges was wearing Crushed Indigo and it looked stunning on her (Mediterranean Olive skin and brown eyes) but I decided it would be a hard look for me to pull off and settled on the other two. The opalescent shade on Ripe Plum is just amazing (as it should be for the price!) but Raw Jade is my favourite. This is a beautifully integrated collection with the nail colours and coloured mascaras. Susan, London

    1. Hi Susan,
I think you did a good job by picking up the green and the plum. Those swatch much better. You can always go back for blue but I think you picked up the most beautiful ones out of three. I also love the idea of nails and eyes matching. I will pass the mascaras though, since they dry and I have way too many open at the moment. I can't wait for the cream eye color!

  7. I love the plum duo, but far too expensive.

    1. I know, it is a little more expensive since wet & dry quads which have almost double the product were only 10-20 bucks more.

  11. Raw Jade is gorgeous! The light shade in this duo looks similar to one of the shades in the Nars duo Iceland, which I believe is still available.

    1. Yes you are right! I don't have Iceland but it is close. Some Nars duos also layer beautifully, so you may try combining it with a deep green and let us know if the look is close to what you get with Tom Ford.
