Nars Audacious Lipstick in Dominique, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

I hope you are all doing great. For me it started getting better after a few days I was feeling like a pile of... ehm... melted lipstick! *grins*

Today I have a quick review of my one and only, first but not the last Nars Audacious Lipstick for you. I have watched in awe how many of these people gathered and presented. All of the reviews were glowing. Since we don't have Nars in Germany, I couldn't run to the counter to swatch and pick up a shade. I thought I should wait until I get to visit Strasbourg, France. They have a Sephora there with a Nars counter. The samples though are usually in very bad condition if they exist at all so it is out of question to try them out. Then Melanie told me she was interested in trying one of the shades, so I also pulled the trigger for one and we ordered from Nars online shop together.

...and of course I had to go for the purple one! Today I present you... *drums* Dominique!

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Dominique

I recall reading somewhere that Dominique was one of the exclusive shades in the States which was sold only in one store. I don't remember which one though and it was written it was hard to get. I can imagine why Nars would make this shade rather limited, because it is something not everyone will like to wear! But me, oh I am so in love!

Dominique is a medium shade which lies perfectly between mauve and purple. Mauve in it makes it wearable and purple makes it unique. The texture is almost like a matte with a tad of sheen. It is very pigmented. With one swipe it is opaque. Look at the arm swatch below to see how well the coverage is. It feels moisturising and comfortable on the lips, wear time is medium, not as long as Chanel Rouge Allure or Tom Ford Lipsticks on me but not bad either.

Swatch: Nars Audacious Lipstick in Dominique

I have tried to find a similar shade in my stash to Dominique but I couldn't even get close. I was thinking Pussy Cat (reviewed here) from Tom Ford Mattes would be close but it is not even in the same color family. MAC Heroine is much brighter in comparison to Dominique. MAC Dodgy Girl (reviewed here) is lighter and more of a lavender.

Comparison: Nars Audacious Lipstick in Dominique vs. MAC and Tom Ford

Below I have combined Dominique with Cle de Peau Satin Moon on the eyes (review coming up soon) and Tom Ford Wicked on the cheeks. I am so obsessed with Wicked at the moment. Lipstick shades like Nars Dominique make me so happy! I am thinking about getting Anna too. It is sometimes a good thing that we don't have a counter close by because it could be very dangerous right before Christmas when the money should well be invested in gifts.

FOTD with Nars Audacious Lipstick in Dominique

This is the last review of a girl before my boys take over. I think you know what I mean.

Final thoughts: Pure love in terms of texture and shade. It looks like Nars nailed it with Audacious.

Have you checked them out? Do you have any/many? Any recommendations?

  1. LOL then let's welcome the Boys with open arms, shall we! ;D

This review just reinforced the fact that you can practically wear any lip color, Sara! You just look good in anything?! How?!! Dominique is such a pretty and unique purple shade. I don't think I have anything similar but then again I only have a few purple lipsticks. ^_^

Anna is a gorgeous color! Everyday kind of pink. My kind of pink. Hehe.

    1. Yes my arms are all open lol!

But you know I am wearing only the ones which suit me, you are pushing me to start a series "lip colors which look terrible on me" lol and you will see there are more than a couple out there which look bad.

Purples are fun! I think it is more common to have a vampy violet but these colors are more wearable. Do you have Anna? It looks so gorgeous. Wish I could swatch!

    1. Hallo Melanie,
ja Farbe ist wirklich intensiv, ich war auch überrascht. Ich bin sehr begeistert von deine Review, Audrey ist ja eine Farbe die immer ausverkauft war. Es muss sehr schön sein!

  3. Ooh, what a gorgeous, unique purple! Love that it's so different from Heroine, so I can justify having both ;)

    1. Hi Jen,
I think Dominique is like a moody fall/winter sister of Heroine if that makes sense ;-)
      I love them both!

  5. Whew! The color is a bit too out there for me personally. But you wear it remarkably well, you look gorgeous!

    1. Maybe, you are not that much into purples as I am. I just can't resist anything "purple" lol

  6. Dominique is exclusive to Barneys here in the US. If NARS thought it would have limited appeal, they were wrong: I've probably heard more about Dominique than any of the other Audacious shades! Or maybe it's so popular *because* it's a Barneys exclusive. Who's to say?

I might have bought Dominique if I didn't have a very similar lipstick, MAC Up the Amp. But it looks great on you! I love it with the other purples in your outfit.

    1. Thanks so much for letting us know. I have to check out Up the Amp, which is in my list forever but I believe Up The Amp is a little warmer than this one right?

    2. Yes, Up the Amp is a little pinker and warmer, but it has the same grayish undertone that Dominique seems to have!

    3. Thanks, I will surely check Up The Amp out, even today I am planning to. If I happen to get it I can post a comparison swatch here and we see how they compare.

  7. Hi Sara! What a beautiful purple! And it looks great on you. I'm quite lucky - Space NK in London have the whole collection, so although I was not after a plum lipstick this time "Audrey" stole my heart! I love how much it lasts and it does not dry my lips out at all. Usually prefer more glittery lipsticks with less colour but NARS did very well this time!

  9. wow what a beautiful color! I was thinking it was similar to heroine but once you showed them next to each other I wondered how I could have thought that!
