Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel Luxury Eyeshadow Palette for Holiday 2014, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

Charlotte Tilbury added a new look to her look book, Supermodel. I am not so much into her advertising ways but a new palette caught my eye the moment it was announced. I have seen a gorgeous taupe, a lovely copper, no glitter shade (yes!) and some stars. Rest is history. Today I would like to introduce you Fallen Angel, a lovely palette with the most gorgeous name!

Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel Luxury Eyeshadow Palette

If you are not living near a counter, it is hard for a brand to win a place in your heart. I like touching and playing with make-up before I feel them. Since we don't have a Nars Counter in Germany, my buys from the brand has been minimum, although I like the concept of it. It had been the same way with Charlotte Tilbury. I have tried one of her eye shadow pencils out of curiosity, and decided on one of her palettes, but both of these products didn't move me all that much.

This is why I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon directly but wanted to see some swatches. Then I have read that Fallen Angel is not the same formula as the regular quads. It can be used wet or dry. I know many of you don't prefer wet application but I like the option to be there if I want to go for drama. Note that this quad only has 2.8 g of eye shadow, less than her usual quads, but these can't be compared since the formula is different. I suspect Fallen Angel is a hybrid "baked" formula, close to new Chanel quads.

There are lovely stars embossed on the surface of the eye shadows, which go away very quickly after the first few uses but they are still fun. There are also stars printed on the compact, which make this limited edition compact a bit more special.

The overall feel of the quad is rather cool, despite the deep bronze shade. All the shades except the black one are shimmery but they are not frosty in a bad way. Fallen Angel swatches beautifully, it is like buttery and very pigmented. One swipe is enough for many of the shade to go full color. Once applied on the eyes, this effect is not so impressing anymore but still it applies beautifully. There is also no fall out, even from the black shade.

Shades are as follows:

Top left: Very light natural pink with shimmery finish. A lovely shade under the brow bone or on the inner corner.

Top right: Light silvery taupe with shimmery finish. It has a hint of warmth in it so it doesn't appear too silvery or harsh against my complexion. This is my favorite shade of the palette, I like applying it all over the lid.

Bottom left: A deep rich bronze with shimmery finish. This is another gorgeous shade and a twist in such an otherwise cool toned palette. It makes the palette very versatile.

Bottom right: Very deep black with matte finish. A gorgeous shade to define or line. It may appear a little drier to touch but it is executed exactly right since it produces no fall out like this and it is very easy to control.

Below I am wearing the lightest shade on the inner corner, taupe all around the lid, bronze to define the outer edge and the crease, which I have then deepened with the black. The eye makeup lasted over 14 hours over Nars Proprime without fading or creasing. I was very pleased with the performance.

Look in context, I have combined Fallen Angel with Lipstick Queen Sinner Bright Nude on the lips and Tom Ford Flush on the cheeks. I am also wearing Armani Eyes&Brows #6 Copal as eye brow shade and as contour to cheek bones.

FOTD with Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel Luxury Eyeshadow Palette

Here are two stars of holiday season, Chanel Reve d'Orient (reviewed here) and Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel. Besides the stars embossed on their surfaces, the black and the copper/bronze shades are showing resemblance, so I would like to swatch them side by side for you. Aside from bronze and black other shades are very different though. Chanel quad is much warmer because of the gold shade and the palest shade is more of a champagne with beige undertones. The formula are close but I prefer Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel because of its versatility (warm and cool combined) and the formula.

Final thoughts: You might have enough naturals already but Fallen Angel is something you shouldn't miss. Especially if you like cooler naturals. I hope CT line brings out more quads with this formula, because it is much better than the regular line.

Have you tried anything from Charlotte Tilbury line? What are your favorites?

  1. Both the CT and Chanel quads look really pretty but I wish they didn't have black in them. I hate it when there's that one shade in the bunch that I know I'll never use. I hope along with you that they give us more future offerings in this formula, because I could see myself purchasing one if I would use all the shades, instead of just three. :)

    1. Hi Rach, I understand your point. It is very hard for me to find a quad that I would like all the four shades. If I like three of them, I am lucky. This black one though can be layered with the others and it doesn't look harsh at all, so I like having it there.

  2. Hey Sara, this quad is pretty shimmery but still pretty tasteful, and I like how it looks on you! I haven't tried anything from the brand, because nothing really speaks to me enough. I am not a fan of how the lipsticks look, and none of the quads I've seen so far seems like a must-have for me. Anyways, I do like this but I think I'll pass. Like Rach, I just won't get that much use out of the black. Between this and the Chanel one, I definitely prefer this tho! I think cooler neutrals are so much more modern-looking :)

    1. Hi Sunny.
I only tried two items, both didn't wow me but this one is one of the best she came up with in my opinion. It is very expensive too though, more expensive that her regular quads. I wonder why everything is so pricy in her line. Anyway, I totally agree with you about the cool neutrals ;-)

  3. I've used this palette twice and I do think the black shade blends well with the rest of the colors. This is my 3rd CT palette and so far I am pleased with all the palettes :)

    1. I am with you on that, black one can also be layered on others to intensify. It is a great shade and I love that it is matte, intense and doesn't produce fall out.

  5. Hi Sara, this quad looks lovely! And the texture does look better than her usual quads. I have yet to try anything from CT... there are a few things I want to try, but it's getting a little overwhelming. LOL! Can't have enough neutrals though :-)

    1. Hi Lily,
I was thinking today, oh gosh, beauty scene is really saturated, so many brands and products. It is hard to keep track of. This one is one of the stand outs of this season though.

    1. Hi Linda,
yes it is metallic, very close to Nars double intensity ones, but I remember you like them right? You might then like this one too. Chanel is less shimmery and warmer. It is lovely too.

  8. I'm still not wowed by the regular eyeshadow quads enough to pick one up, but maybe that will change once I swatch? Not sure esp with the glitter shade and everything seeming to look too frosty in pics, but this one super pretty. Love the look on you as well!

    1. If you can swatch it, you will probably end up with one. The regular quads have a frosty base (not a fan) and a glittery pop shade (hate!) but this one is really different. Still shimmery but very pretty, I think.

  9. Thanks for the lovely detailed review! The look you created is so pretty! Since I dont have physical access to CT, I've so far been able to resist it completely, I think I'm much more intrigued by brands like Suqqu and Surratt which I cant get easily either.

    1. The same here! Suqqu has a very pretty eye shadow formula, which is different than other brands. CT eye shadows though never appeared special to me. I own Dolce Vita, it is ok but didn't move me. This one is the best thing I had from her line so far. But I would still go for Suqqu ;-)

  10. So gorgeous! I was also thinking of the similarity with the Chanel quad- thanks so much for the comparison :)

    1. Hi Jen,
yes it was no brainer since both of them have stars lol,
it is really that though three of the four shades are very similar!

  11. It looks lovely on you, but all these palettes are starting to look alike, what with the brown, bronze, and black over and over and over. What happened-- did marketing research decide these are the colors for this season? Because I don't see anything original or different. Still good to know that the quality is there in case they come up with some colors that aren't repeating.

    1. LOL Alison, I know what you mean! why not drop an interesting shade in between right? Like a neutral palette with a twist. But no, they put the same shades together all over again. I don't know how many ton sur son palettes were released in the last two years.

  12. You know, I wasn't too keen on the CT palettes when I swatched them - but this one looks rather lovely! Still a tad bit too much shimmer for me, but I love the look you created! Perfect for the incoming holidays. ;) xx

  15. @XueCue - Charlotte Tilbury website, Selfridges (in-store and on the website which will ship to DE). Some other websites have a few items but those two are the best.
