Chanel Les 4 Ombres #232 Tissé Vénitien, Swatches, Comparison & FOTD

After swatching all the eight new eye shadow quads from Chanel, without loosing time I started playing around with them. The first one I got to try out, #232 Tissé Vénitien, must be one of the most beautiful green quads I own to date...

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #232 Tissé Vénitien

Let me start by saying that I was not expecting all that much from the new quads because I had bad experience with the old formula and before those were released, I promised myself not to get another one of the old baked ones, like ever. Did they hear me? In one way or another my wish was granted and here it is, looks baked but it is not, or is it? The ingredients are very close to Asia/Chanel.com Exclusive quads such as Delicatesse (reviewed here) or Jardin Zen (reviewed recently here) but I would say these are even better in terms of pigmentation.

I especially liked the complexity of the metallic shades. Look at that greenish taupe, isn't that gorgeous? I am not going to list all the shades once more since I have done it before. Instead let me talk about how it felt during application. I used a dense Hakuhodo brush (G5507) and applied them dry over Nars Pro-prime. Building up color was very easy. I didn't experience any fall out during application.

I applied the pink shade at inner corner, taupe from 1/3 of the lid outwards. Then I deepened the corner and the crease with teal shade and deepened them further with the deepest shade from the quad.

I combined this eye makeup with yet to be released Dior Fluid Stick in Mirage (swatched here) on lips and Chanel Creme Blush Chamade (reviewed here) on cheeks.

FOTD: Chanel Les 4 Ombres #232 Tissé Vénitien

Tissé Vénitien reminded me of one of my other beloved green quads, Dior Bonne Etoile from Mystic Metallics Collection (Fall 2013) so I brought them side by side and swatched four closest shade of the quint (I left out the center brown shade).

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #232 Tissé Vénitien vs. Dior 5 Couleur #384 Bonne Etoile

These two palettes have a similar metallic and green combination to them, but for me they are still different enough to justify owning both. If you don't own any of them (and considering to get one, since Bonne Etoile is still available in Germany) my pick would be Tissé Vénitien because the deeper shade has less shimmer and taupe is more metallic and complex.

A last point, longevity. I was very much impressed. I put the make up on at 8 am and at 8 pm it was still intact until I decided to remove it. I have to say though I don't have oily lids so your mileage may vary.

Here is one more picture, if you still haven't made up your mind...

Final thoughts: No fall out, check. Longevity, check. Pigmentation, check. Complexity of shades, check. Versatility, check. Ease of application, check. I would say this might be my favorite of the bunch but wait until I try the other three...

Another green quad? Yay or nay?

    1. I'm with you! I was dissing Chanel for that darn formula, so maybe all our complaints were heard after all :-)

    2. It must be all three of us praying to Make-up gods so they have heard us. I was sceptical, still, until I have tried it on. Today I tried the third quad and I am sold. Formula may be one of my favorites at the moment, it really improved very much.

    3. Hi Sara, I have just managed to purchase the Venitien quad pallette as it is gorgeous. Please can you tell me what the green eyeliner you are wearing is (on the inner rim of your eye) as it matches beautifully. Thank you.

    5. Hi Hayley,
I am guessing this was Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on in Junkie. Enjoys yours!

  2. So glad that you are loving them too! I was a bit sceptic as well but man these are so smooth and pigmented! Venetian is an absolute stunner, it caught my eye immediately and I might love it even more than Bonne Etoile. You look really amazing with these colours, I also really love the colour placement on your eyes ^^.

  4. D: Oh NOOOOOO. Why must you tempt me with these unique green quads? First Burberry, now this. Murano was my favourite old Chanel quad, and this is clearly its much improved successor!

    1. Hahaha, Kate you always make me laugh! Greens look so gorgeous on you so I don't regret tempting you at all. After I see them on you at your posts and i drool ;-)
Yes the closest Chanel quad should be Murano, which I don't have so if you get this one you can maybe compare them. Would be interesting to see. Venetien though is a true stunner, that metallic shade, it literally sings!

    1. LOL, I think you won't regret getting this one, it is really pretty and the are so many things you can do with this one, I have tried here just one. I am loving the new formulation, by the way Mirage is also released in US (Macy's had it as of today) so you can that one too :-)

    1. Hi Irena,
I think this quad is the stunner of the collection for a statement eye which is not over the top so be sure to check it out ;-)
Thanks for your compliment, many greens don't look good on me but teals or deep forest greens suit me better.

  8. OMG, you're convincing me to get this!!! I'm keeping myself away from these new quads, even when I'm lemming Venitien and Gabrielle... now that I see that Venitien is different enough from Bonne Etoile (which I own), the lemming is growing!!!

    1. Hi Anne, yes I find them different enough but both are gorgeous. I like Venetien even more so if green and metallics is your thing, then be sure to get this one :-) let me know how you like it.

    1. Hi Lo,
On my lower lash line I used Mars from Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil. Upper lash line is the darkest shade from the quad. Hope that helps.

  12. Gorgeous quad, and it looks lovely on you! However, we don't seem to be able to purchase these in any U.S. stores, at least according to my search. I called all of our luxury stores that I could think of, and even the Nordstrom Flagship Store (which is the biggest carrier of special Chanel make-up that other stores may get) said that they hadn't been told they were going to get it at all.

All of this, of course, makes me want this quad even more. Is anyone aware of how I might purchase them elsewhere? Many thanks, Laurie Stapleton
