Dior Polka Dots Colour & Dots Manicure Kits, Swatch & Review

Surprise, it is me! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and still hanging around after a week's silence. I am so sorry for that. I might be on and off until the end of June, that is two more months but I promise to become extra active after that to make up for the things and hoping to see you all and read your comment especially during this very busy period when I try extra hard to get the reviews up. I worked hard yesterday for the blog, swatched tens of nail polishes and took lots of photos so hoping to be able to post more often this week and the week after that. Fingers crossed.

Dior's Summer 2016 Collection makes me sing "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini". I love the theme of the collection, Polka Dots but honestly I had a very hard time finding something to purchase. I ended up with three of the nail polish sets including a doting tool and two small sized (7 ml instead of 10ml) nail polishes. Other than that? Unfortunately eye shadow formula is not calling me and lip products are not very exciting either. I was thinking about getting one of the bronzers, one with pinks in it but those are permanent so can wait a little. Have you picked up anything? Any suggestions? My thoughts and swatches of Manicure kits are right after the jump.

Dior Polka Dots Colour & Dots Manicure Kits 001 Pastilles, 002 Confettis, 003 Plumetis for Summer 2016

A few words about the packaging and the contents before I start with the review. Dior has released quite a few manicure sets in the past such as the one with the magnet or some stickers. Last year there was some tie & die idea which was too time consuming (3-4 coats, who would wait for these to dry?). I am happy to tell you that this is the first manicure kit which actually worked! It is such fun and the packaging is not as bulky as the ones before that. I am positively surprised. Doting is really easy with the applicator provided, even for a nail art noob like myself. All thumbs up for this aspect.

Each set costs only around 32 € for 14 ml of nail polish and the dotting applicator. Doing the maths 14 ml of Dior nail polish costs more than 35€ so it is a good deal. You are also getting two shades at ones, which is attractive even if you don't use it by dotting.

Dior Polka Dots Colour & Dots Manicure Kit 001 Pastilles has a cream nude (#212) and a blue color (#795). These both perform well. Although the nail polish is smaller, the brush is the same size as in the regular bottle. Cream shade applied beautifully and with two coats it is perfectly opaque without streakiness. Blue is a little thin in consistency but it is also opaque in two coats.

In theory this can be dotted in two ways, either dark on light, as I did here or light on dark. In this particular nail polish, the blue is staining so I recommend you to apply a good base coat before going for blue as the base. I personally like blue dots on cream more.

Polka Dots Colour & Dots Manicure Kit 002 Confettis  is probably the most attention taking duo of the three and perfect for the summer. Both of the shades have great formula. The deeper shade is especially good to pick up with the dotting tool although I believe peach on coral would also be a great fun to wear.

I used a piece of paper to dab some nail polish and picked up small amounts by using the tool provided. It is really easy to do even if you are not familiar with nail art *shows herself*. The peach shade (#432) and the coral (#652) are both perfectly opaque in two coats if you decide to use them as a base or on its own.

Here comes my personal favorite, Polka Dots Colour & Dots Manicure Kit 003 Plummets. The reason being is strictly personal, I simply love the mauve pink combination. I opted for the deeper shade as a base though since the lighter shade is a little streaky and took a few attempts to get it the way it is shown below on my ring finger nail. In fact I ended up three coats of this for that. Mauve is applied two coats and has a perfect consistency and opaqueness.

I wished #582 would be available as a separate shade. I would be all over it. I think Chanel has a few shades which are close, such as Infidele of Fashion Night Out a few years back but this one is the perfect balance of pink and plum and I find the lightness to be perfect. I am considering to wear it all over with only dotted manicure on the ring finger (so that the students don't get terrified on Monday).

Here is a one last shot of my favorite shade and one of my favorite color combination in a tulip. Maybe I have to do a make-up inspired by this flower, what do you think? Reminds me a bit of Suqqu #18 Sakuraori palette (reviewed here)

Final thoughts: Although I struggled to find something else to buy from Dior's Summer Collection, I think the nail polish manicure kit is the best nail art attempt of Dior up to date in terms of the value offered for the product, the quality and ease of application. If you are in for a little fun on your tips, I recommend you to check out your favorite color combo.

Are you eyeing anything from Dior Summer Polka Dots Collection?

  1. Thank you for your review. It's good to see you back. I assumed you must be really busy with work. These polishes are beautiful (as are the patterns you've created ) so I might get them because I like the shades but I'm not sure I could be bothered to the polka dot pattern (too lazy :)).

I haven't seen the collection yet as it has only been out in Selfridges here. I'm considering one of the bronzers and maybe the loose powder? Not sure yet.

  2. Hi Anne,
thanks so much for your command. At times like this, I live through the comments really. I wanted to get one of the bronzers too, probably the one with pink in there to use as a bronzer blush combo. I will check it out in person soon. The dotting process is so easy and fun, doesn't take long. You should definitely try :-)

  3. Hello My Beloved Sara!
I so missed your posts and your cheerful spirit :)
I have the same problem picking stuff from Dior Summer Collection! Nothing really intricates me though I tested Fresh Light Nude powder with the pinky Nude letters and it's really nice! It was added to my Wishlist without second thoughts! Then I liked the illuminating loose powder so maybe these two will be my only purchases from Dior! I wish the plummy nail polish would come out as a single shade ! Now that I read your thoughts on these maybe I purchase the plummy set too :) oh and Sakuraori! My favorite and most used Suqqu palette after your enlightening suggestion!
    Puss puss :*

  6. I love the nail polishes! I got the blue and coral combo and eyeing the pink for later :). I also got the backstage eye palette with the neutrals and I can report I am happy but could be more pigmented. There is a stunning khaki in there though and it is velvety soft. Personally, I'm enjoying the palette especially the three shades and the liner. I saw the powders but I think I own something similar from previous years from Dior.

  7. These are so nice really. I loved the idea although one can also buy a dotting tool and use every nail polish at home principally. I never got any of the backstage palettes. The first one had a beautiful plum taupe which called me but the other shades were too light for my liking and the deepest shade I need most was cream. I am glad Khaki is really not my shade or I had to splurge after reading your comment lol. About the powders, the same here. I own very similar bronzers from Dior from previous years so I will probably pass on these.

  8. Yes the cream shade was much better applied than I anticipated. I was expecting streakiness but it went on like a dream.

  9. Hi Hara, miss you :-****
I was also wondering the Warm light one, I will test that in store this week but I have so many bronzing powders from Dior which look so close, I might as well pass on it. It is permanent though as far as I understood, so might get it later. Everyone talks about the loose powder, I have to check it out. Sakuraori is a beauty. I have to take it out and wear it this week. The weather is calling for it. I hope you are doing good.

  11. Hi Sara,
Thank you for posting in such busy times for you. I've been following your blog for a bit now, and I've made quite a few nail polish purchase decisions with your suggestions, as I've found we have similar tastes :)
I'm definitely getting the plumetis; they're so my colors! And I agree Dior not only should have the 582 by itself but in the permanent line.
    Cheers!

  12. I'm so glad Dior came out with some fun nail polish kits again! These are fun, though the individual shades don't seem so unique to me apart from the blue. Sara, I'm pretty sure you have something similar to 582 from Dior Asia Exclusive last year. I'm stumped as to what to do with these... the all over polka dots, and now your reminder of that itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini has just made it impossible
