Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo for Spring 2014, FOTD, Swatch & Review

Suqqu's Spring Collection arrived to counters in Japan, and about to reach UK in a week or two. I just got lucky, again on eBay and laid my hands on two of the quads and one of the blushes. Today I would like to show you Suqqu's Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo.

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo

The limited pieces by Suqqu are being prefixed by Ex before the numbers so as there is not Ex with this one, it is going to join the permanent line. What a pleasant surprise, after having really hard time finding Suqqu Christmas Kit B

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo

From what I can see, Hanashuobo is the "smokey" palette of the collection. It has two deeper shades, which can be layered or applied alone. Accompanying this there are two lighter shades. On the bottom right, there used to be a matte base shade to apply all over eye lid. With Hanashuobo, base shade is shimmery and semi sheer. I believe it is done for layering, but haven't tried it yet. There is almost so much to discover in Suqqu palettes.

Here are the shades:

Upper left: Pale ivory with frosty/metallic finish. This one is rather opaque.
Upper right: Mid-toned bronze brown with satin finish. This shade has the hidden Suqqu shimmer which reveals itself only under certain light conditions. It is not very warm, rather a natural brown.
Bottom left: Mid-toned purple with similar finish to the bronze brown shade, with very subtle shimmer. This one is also not very warm nor cool.
Bottom right: Semi-sheer pale pink champagne with shimmer.

Swatch: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo

Below is the first attempt with Hanashuobo, champagnne is on the inner corner, brown is on the lid and purple is on the crease. This one is rather a natural smokey eye with a purple twist. The shades remind me a little of Armani Quad #12 in Fatal (reviewed here) but Hanashuobo is much more understated and the longevity today was really impressive. Applied at 8am over Nars Pro-prime, removed at 10pm, still almost 90% of the eye makeup was intact. Some eye shadow formulas also irritate my eyes, especially after a long day of wear but I don't even felt that one, it silently wore and wore over 12 hours on me.

In-action: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo

Here is the whole look and a sneak peek of Suqqu blush from upcoming review on my cheeks, Tom Ford lip sheer in Summer Fling on the lips, which I am loving at the moment. The only with with this palette would be to have a pale to mid-toned shade for versatility instead of two pale shades which look rather close.

FOTD: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow #16 Hanashuobo

EDIT: I felt like I didn't use this palette to its full potential, so here is one more look, using the light shade more, hope this also gives an idea.

Here is the whole look...

Final thoughts: Another solid palette from Suqqu, especially perfect for smoky eye fans since two of the shadows are rather deep. It gives a natural smoky eye with that pretty purple twist. Surely worth checking out.

Are you planning to pick anything from Suqqu's Spring collection?

    1. Hi there Melissa,
thanks so much for your comment and following xox
Sweater, lol, it is new and I have a crush with that one too, it is from Mrs & Hugs, it is actually pure cashmere, so soft. I got it here in Germany, in Breuninger Stuttgart.

  3. Hey this kinda sorta reminds me of Guerlain Two VIP! I think the two lighter shades will be too similar on me, so I'm not sure about this one. It looks great on you though!

    1. Oh these two lighter shades are also too similar on me, lol. But Suqqu's bottom right shade meant to be a base, which I never use because I like dense application (and this one makes it lighter). I was also not sure about it, so tried it once more, updated the post. I think i like the second look more ;-)

    1. Thanks Icaria,
I was not blown away but with the second look now, I am loving it more. You can get it from Selfridges, they now ship WW.

  5. I'm actually looking at Suqqu brushes - been lemming after them for so long! It's quite sad that the brand is so elusive though. It would be nice if they had more shops worldwide :-) I love purple on you - suits you very much!

    1. Hi Lily,
yes I know, especially brushes are hard to get. I am waiting for two brushes since ages and they always appear for a day and two at Selfridges, then puff gone again. Thanks for your lovely comment.

    1. Hi Clare,
actually you don't have to move that fast because these are joining the permanent line, I am going to review one of the blushes and all of the eye quads, so hopefully it helps you making a decision.

  7. The purple caught my eye! I must admit that Suqqu Spring 2013 excites me more than this one but the purple on this palette looks pretty too.

    1. The same here, last year's Spring and Fall were outstanding. Now these are more of like basic quads, great for the permanent line but nothing very unique in terms of shade combination. Of course their textures and lasting power are to die for as usual.

  8. This is the palette I was thinking about getting, but I can't ever decide! It's tough when I'm not getting all three right off tha bat and trying to be a little more prudent about my purchases. The second look in particular is very pretty on you Sara. I feel like it intensifies the purple even more because of the more contrasting placement of color. You look beautiful!

    1. Thank you so much, after the first look I had the feeling that I haven't done this palette justice so decided to try a second look with more purple, which I knew would look better :-p
I am going to review all three so you may want to check out the others too. I like the brown one too, it is that subtle polished look kind of palette, goes great with strong lips. But I believe you would enjoy Hanashuobo.

  9. First off, I LOVE your blog! It is incredible! Thank you so much for showing us all of your goodies. I'm so glad you've reviewed this Suqqu palette because I have been coveting it for the last couple weeks. I've never owned a Suqqu palette and I have been mulling over buying this one. I am dying for a beautiful Suqqu palette with purple, like you I am obsessed with purple...still trying to find Tom Ford Violet Dusk. Sigh! Anyway I really like this look on you, it actually reminds me of Nars Marienbad, which I used to wear frequently a few years ago, now discontinued.
Also, have you heard of www.ichibankao.com? I don't know if they ship to Germany, if they do have you tried them? I think its the cheapest way to get Suqqu to the States, since Selfridge's shipping is insane. Anyway, thank you for this review. You have fabulous taste!

    1. Hi Laura,
thanks so much for your lovely comment. If you like purples, this one might really be for you! I don't have Nars Marienbad, it is interesting that name sounds German but we don't even have Nars in Germany, lol. I used Ichibankao and love their service. They are very responsive once you write an e-mail and usually they post the items fairly quickly. I got the green palette from this collection via Ichibankao. Also check out Selfridges because for US or non European countries they deduce the tax, which partly justifies the higher shipping costs. You can see this only once you start ordering, I think at the last stage. I am sure you will love the texture of Suqqu, it is really very pretty and long lasting. Let me know how you like it.

  10. If I had to pick one fr this season, it would be this purple palette... but then again, i've so many purples! And after last year's SUQQU madness, one does need a breather. Thank God these are permanent! Look awesome on you though, Sara!

  11. Sara! The second look with the light shade looks absolutely gorgeous on you!! So tempting! :-)
Thank you for showing how to wear the palette in various ways. Still contemplating if I should cross over to Suqqu territory soon!
