Burberry Nail Polish #418 Aqua Green, #431 Stone Blue and #429 Imperial Blue Swatch & Comparison, the Birds and the Bees Spring 2015 Collection

It is hard to believe that it is going to be up to 15 degrees Celsius outside tomorrow. I am getting all warmed up to the idea of a wonderful Spring, the new birth of nature and pretty colors which come with it to the trees and on the nails. Today I have blues and greens for your tips and toes from Burberry.

I have purchased them last year when they were available during fashion week. There is a pink and a blue set of three colors which come in a box. I one of the shades in the pink box was a repromote from last year's summer collection which I already own so I went with the blue box.

Greens must be one of the rarest shades on the nails together with yellows. Burberry Nail Polish #418 Aqua Green is a very wearable green which leans slightly turquoise with right amount of blue in there so it is not too warm nor too cool. It is also not too dark nor too light. A perfect balanced shade. I really liked it on the nails. It is almost opaque with one coats but I applied two for the swatches below. The formula is great, it is self leveling and it doesn't stain.

Burberry Nail Polish #431 Stone Blue is a mid-toned cool blue with a hint of grey.  It is not too bright, nor too muted. It is a great all year around shade but for the Spring time it is a great alternative to pastels. I really found it flattering on my complexion. Again the formula is great, almost a one coater but I applied two for the photo below. Great formula, it is a breeze to work with and it doesn't stain.

Some of you might find the aspect of not staining straightforward for a high-end brand like Burberry but for blues and greens I am always cautious. I was very happy to find out that the most vivid color of the collection, Burberry #429 Imperial Blue also has great formula and no staining. It is a gorgeous mid-toned cobalt. It is also not too bright, looks chic and shows itself without getting garish. This one is my favorite of the three because it is the most unique to my collection but I love all three of these so much. Imperial Blue's formula is a little thinner than the other two but it covers perfectly with two coats.

I love it when my greens and blues come out to play! I have taken out Chanel #407 Jade, which is less of a jade than Burberry's Aqua Green, much lighter and yellow based. I have thought YSL Jade Imperial would be close but it is also more yellow based. YSL #36 Vert D'Orient (reviewed here) on the other hand is the closest shade in my stash. It is a little darker thanks Burberry #418 Aqua Green, and I prefer Aqua Green, so pretty!

I have included a grey, Burberry #203 Storm Grey (reviewed here) to see the difference with #431 Stone Blue but as you see it looks very different, much darker. Chanel #555 Blue Boy is very close to Burberry #431 Stone Blue to the extend that once you own one, probably you don't need the other.

Burberry #429 Imperial Blue is very unique to my collection and whatever I tried next to it looked very different. Chanel #553 Blue Rebel is much darker, so are Burberry #427 Teal Blue and #425 Ink Blue (both reviewed here). I have then added YSL #18 Blue Majorelle for comparison since all the others were too muted but as you see Blue Majorelle is much brighter once compared to Imperial Blue.

Burberry Spring Collection the Birds and the Bees also has one pink shade which is repromoted from Summer 2014, #223 Pink Azalea. I have worn it several times since then, it is such a gorgeous muted milky plum pink, exactly like my heart desires. The formula is a little on the thick side but it works without any problems if you don't load too much on to your brush. If you don't have it, I also recommend checking out. There are two more pinks in the collection which I will wait to see in person, the light one is in my wish list for sure.

Final thoughts: The loveliest greens and blues I have seen for a long time. If you like those shades on your nails as much as I do, don't miss it. These are now also available separately at Burberry's web store along with some matching eye shadows and lip products.  My favorite is Imperial Blue but I love all three.

Do you like blues and greens on your hands? Which one is your favorite?

  1. Hey Sara, I find everything that comes in a set hard to resist, despite the fact that I don't often wear green and blue (teal yes)! My favorite here has to be aqua green. It's true that the temperature isn't low at all, but we had a lot of rain here for the past 2 days and it just makes me a little meh!

    1. Hi Sunny,
as I am writing this, it is raining cats and dogs and everything else here. It was very warm but stormy for the last days, today eventually it rained. I still can't complain since there is no snow and I don't like snow, so I am happy :-)
I love blues and greens on the hands. Aqua Blue is close to teal so you might like it :-)

  2. I got both sets but found the two blues were too similar to other polishes to keep - as you say, Chanel's Blue Boy is a ringer for Stone, and Nails Inc's Baker Street is between Blue Imperial and YSL's Majorelle; I loved the green more in the bottle than on my skin tone - it's a hard colour to pull off. I like the pinks better (unusually for me), especially Azalea and the Coral - the lightest (Hydrangea?) is very pretty (a touch of lilac in the pink which you will love) but a slightly streaky formula. 1. Hi Susan,
I don't have Baker Street but it must be a very nice shade. I really like Blue Imperial, since it is hard to be unique to all the nail polishes I have and it is ;-) I like the green on me but probably you are cooler than me? Thanks for telling me that the light shade is a little streaky. I have to check that one out in person before ordering. I love lilac for sure!

  3. Ah, this trio looks utterly perfect! I've yet to try any Burberry polishes, but I'm definitely tempted :)

  5. Leaning more towards Imperial Blue maybe because it reminds me of Aegean. Lovely :)
