Chanel Joues Contraste #87 Emotion Swatch & Comparison

Chanel silently released new Joues Contrastes around the globe. It started with two new shades in Europe, called Discretion and Evocation (reviewed here, here and here). Next one was a US Version powder blush #87 called Emotion.

I think the name is very appropriate for such a sweet pink feminine shade, the color of your cheeks once your heart beats faster. Emotion is one of rare Chanel blushes without shimmer, it has a very subtle sheen to it, almost appearing matte on the skin, which I am loving at the moment.

I tried to find similar shades in my stash. Emotion is like a lighter and powder version of creme blush fantastic. #74 Ultra Rose is more blue based and much lighter. I was supposing Emotion would be close to Rose Initiale but I was proven wrong. Rose Initiale is much lighter. Rouge Bunny Rouge's Florita is a tad darker and redder but probably the closest one I have to Emotion. Chanel's #79 Rouge is warmer and redder.

Then I was like, wait a minute, what about Pink Explosion. So I brought them side by side and I have seen they look similar in the pan...

...but once swatched they are very different. Pink Explosion is shimmery, cooler and lighter and Emotion is more matte and warmer.

Below is a look I am enjoying at the moment, Guerlain Rouge Automatique #660 Illusion on the lips, Suqqu Ex-19 Touryokuzora (review coming up soon) on the eyes and Chanel Emotion on the cheeks.

Final thoughts: Emotion is such a pretty blush which would be flattering across different complexions. Being almost matte, it is also perfect for mature skin. It seems to be US only at the moment so I hope we get that one also in Europe, fingers crossed.

Diorific Perfumed Illuminating Powder #001 Rose D'Or from Dior Golden Winter Holiday 2013 Collection

I was trying to resist this one but failed miserably. Diorific Perfumed Illuminating Powder in Rose D'Or must have been the prettiest highlighter compact I have... It comes is a black pouch, which has an additional pocket for the tiny golden brush.

Brush is very soft and is perfect for touch ups on the go. Compact is very heavy and feel so luxurious. This one has a gorgeous vintage feel to it. Although the compact looks tiny, it has 6 g of product, which is a regular powder blush/highlighter size.

Diorific Perfumed Illuminating Powder #001 Rose D'Or 

It is described as "Perfumed Illuminating Powder" so I sniffed it. I could smell some vanilla and white flower mix, it must be their new version of J'adore called L'Or. The scent is very subsided, which appeals to me because I don't like perfumed cosmetics. Powder has a gorgeous detail, according to Selfridge's website, it is embossed with the beads of Masai necklace. To me it looks classy and timeless.

Dior's Golden Winter Collection is inspired by winter in Versailles, which reminded me of another highlighter compact with gorgeous Versailles detail embossed on it, Chanel Mouche de Beaute. I thought back then this must have been my most beautiful highlighter but once placed next to Dior Rose D'Or, even this one doesn't have a chance, what do you think?

Once swatched side by side, Chanel Mouche de Beaute is darker and more frost. More of a traditional highlighter. Diorific Rose D'or on the other hand is a cross between a pressed highlighter and a loose powder if that makes sense. It is more like Chanel or Guerlain's loose sparkling powders for holiday once applied on the skin. It is very subtle on a rather transparent base.

Another rose golden highlighter came to my mind, Laura Mercier's Spellbound, remember how much I loved that one (review here).

Spellbound is even darker, more rose, less shimmery but more pigmented. Diorific Rose D'Or is lighter, more transparent with tiny glitters which play with the light. Rose D'Or would also be perfect for decollete. The effect of it becomes more apparent once the light hits on it.

Final thoughts: Diorific Rose D'Or has such a luxury feel to it. It is the designer's item, which I would probably not use everyday but once you are there out partying, take this out for a touch-up and it is a sudden show stopper. Be aware that it is not a regular pressed highlighter though, with its rather transparent base, it can be used to add some shimmer, without giving much color. Perfect for a subtle all over glow on your face, hair and decollete. I got mine from eccentuals.com (from UK) where it seems to be cheaper than the list price in Germany. I have heard though that this never made it to US. Or maybe you have seen it?

Chanel Ombres Matelassees Charming Eye Shadow Palette from Nuit Infinie de Chanel Holiday 2013 Collection

I hope everyone is having a better weekend than I do. I am trying to recover from mild stomach irritation and hoping to be able to start the week tomorrow and so far I am not feeling that good. Anyway, this post waited already for a long time now and has to be posted, so here we go... Chanel's new quint from their holiday collection has a very pretty name, Charming...

I pre-ordered this one, knowing it wouldn't last long before it will sell out. Natural palette with Chanel written on it is guaranteed to fly off the shelves. They called me on a Thursday, and said that the collection was there. I could make it to the store on Friday and would like to swatch before buying but couldn't see the tester. It was hidden in a drawer since this product was already sold out! In one day? I was confused, anyway purchased my palette, which was reserved for me, and went home, so excited to try it out.

I took it out on Sunday, to take some photos, wanted to remove the inlay and there I see, it was glued to the compact? Ugh! It didn't want to come out... I almost ripped it off, leaving two ugly white marks behind.

A bad surprise: Chanel Ombres Matelassees Charming Eye Shadow Palette 

First I was like, what? Then I called the counter and they were not that surprised to hear that. Apparently it was the "display" piece which I was given by mistake. Luckily a new order is expected to arrive, with that they will change my piece with a regular one. I didn't want to wait until it arrives again, so here comes the swatches and eye look. Luckily the powder part of this is the same as a regular one.

Charming has five neutrals, placed from light to deep, going from beige to plummy brown. It has mostly satins and mattes, with the exception of the middle shade, which is shimmery.

The shades can be described as follows:

• Light beige with matte finish
• Light brown with matte finish
• Mid-toned brown with gold and bronze shimmer
• Deep cool brown with satin finish
• Deep aubergine with matte finish

The thing I like about this palette is high quality mattes and how nicely each shade shows up on my lids. They are not transparent nor too light which is great in my book. On the other hand it is hard to form a contrast with only one light shade. However good news is that these can be layered so if you want to make one of the shades lighter, just mix it with the lightest shade. For the below look, I aimlessly padded some shades on my lid and voila, it looks nice enough to wear it! :-) Effortless smokey eye, love it. The only shade I am not in love with is the middle one, with slight fall out. It also leans way too warm for my taste so for the below look, I padded a little bit of that one on the lid after I was finished for a little shimmer here and there. Final thoughts: A nice basic palette which performs very well. I can see that one being flattering on a lot of different complexions and can be worn all year around.

What I don't understand is that this is only 55 EUR in Europe and as much as $80 in US, do you know why?

Chanel Joues Contraste #84 Accent from Nuit Infinie de Chanel Holiday 2013 Collection

So far Chanel's Holiday Collection has been a hit for me. Illusion d'Ombre in Fatal (reviewed here) became my go-to quick make-up eye product and have been used over and over again during the course of last weeks. This is why I even considered a back-up of that once Nuit Infinie de Chanel hit counters in Germany. I am trying to give up on getting back-ups though because experience have shows that they usually are not needed as long as new pretties arrive.

Here is a new love from that collection I would like to present you today, Joues Contraste in Accent...

I have heard a lot about this blush, so by the time I lifted the cover, I was very excited to meet it in person. My first impression was "oh this is shiny!" then something like "what color is this anyway?" Interesting thing about Accent is that it is a unique blush color and has glitters. So without trying it on, it is hard to tell how it would look like.

I first rushed upstairs to find a "similar" shade. I was trying almost everything from my stash, swatching them side by side, hopelessly. Nothing turned out to be ever belonging to the same color family. I started with Guerlain's Crazy Terracotta which I am loving at the moment (reviewed here) but it turned out to be very coral/pink once compared. was that supposed to be a blush? Anyway, I was thinking one of the new Chanel blushes, #85 Evocation (reviewed here) might come close, but it is way too warm and brown. I swatched Chanel Notorious because I thought Accent looks very cool so let me see how it looks against Notorious. In fact to be Accent looks like Evocation cooled down with Notorious, if that ever would make sense. Do you see the silver sparkles once swatched on my arm?

Onto applying on the cheeks, I was like wowed! It really is unique, on swatches and on cheeks I was happy to find out that sparkles didn't make me look like a disco ball. Actually those don't ever show up that much, only give a wonderful sheen. I find most of the bronzers too warm toned, so for me Accent is like a magical complexion enhancer. After using it, my cheeks look slightly sun kissed and highlighted. I love using Accent with Rouge Allure #124 Ambigue as you can see below. Can you guess which product I am wearing on my eyes? Final thoughts: I am loving Accent for a particular Sepia toned look with a little bit of Mauve thrown in. It warms up my skin and highlights but since the shade is not that warm, looks very natural and understated. For me it is one of the must-haves from this holiday season.

Dior 5 Couleurs #634 Golden Flower from Golden Winter Holiday 2013 Collection

After my first decision to get Golden Snow quint from Dior's Golden Winter Holiday Collection, I couldn't resist the plum shade in Golden Flower calling my name and placed a second order.  I wore Golden Snow three days of last week, which may state a record for any eye shadow palette in my collection. I expected to love Golden Flower too, maybe not as much because it is rather subdued, natural and maybe not that interesting and unique but warm naturals with a touch of plum was too good to pass.

Golden Flower has four shades and one glitter shade. Top two shades are lighter satins, bottom two are deeper naturals of matte and satin texture. If you leave the center glitter shade, it makes a lovely everyday quad. Once you pad a glitter on the lid, it becomes also a little festive. I found that the center shade is not a crazy glitter and once padded lightly, for me it is appropriate to be worn during the day.

Swatch: Dior 5 Couleurs #634 Golden Flower 

I can see most of you sighing happily with the beauty of antique gold shade but I have to make a confession. I hate antique gold on my lids, LOL! Well I am also no fan of khaki. Considering these are close neighbors on color spectrum, it all makes sense. I find these shades to be too warm for my skin and blending too much with my eyes. The plum I used on the crease didn't save the eye look for me and I ended up being a little meh about it. The shades are very nicely pigmented and finely milled. I like working with them, wished I liked the colors on me, it would make a great everyday quad. Next I am going to try going heavier with plum with an accent with pink/gold. Once I try this, of course I will let you know.

So below you see #3 on the lid, #4 on the crease, #1 on inner corner, #5 padded lightly on the lid.

Final thoughts: Lovely warm quad for everyday looks and a little bit of fun with a glitter shade. That being said, my heart still belongs to Golden Snow which I find to be more unique and interesting.

Tom Ford Nail Lacquer in #26 Shameless, #27 Trophy Wife Swatch & Comparison

It is this time of the year. There are reds, reds and more reds. Then some golds and reds again. So it is not surprising that today's post is about reds. Reds on your finger tips.

Recently Tom Ford released two new nail polishes. #26 Shameless is what you would call classical Hollywood Red. It is a mid toned red, which is a little on the warm side. Application is flawless, great consistency, needed two coats for full opacity.

The phrase "Trophy Wife" must have been given a prize for "mostly used nail polish name". (China Glaze, Essie, now Tom Ford). Do you also have the same feeling?

Trophy Wife of Tom Ford is a polish that I made me gasp after the first brush stroke. The fuchsia sheen in the bottle transfers on to the nails as a gorgeous dimension. It has perfect formula, which covers the nails in one coat. Below I used two coats just to intensify the color a little. I remembered of my first encounter with Chanel's Rouge Carat, which is still one of my absolute favorite reds to date. Trophy Wife has definitely potential to become one too.

I pulled out some reds to check out if I had something close to these, close being meant in a beauty blogger way (everything which are subtly different can be justified to have a place in the stash)

Chanel #595 Rouge Moire is leaning very plum, #541 Tentation is very pink once compared to Trophy Wife. Chanel #587 Rouge Carat is fairly close but a tad darker and warmer.

I was thinking Chanel #581 would be close to Tom Ford Shameless but Shameless turned out to be darker. Chanel #475 Dragon and Dior #999 Rouge are also lighter and a little cooler. Chanel #08 has jelly consistency and is cooler and lighter too. I added the reds of Tom Ford from their permanent collection to see how they relate to the new shades. Tom Ford #15 Smoke Red is more blue based and therefore cooler. As we have seen earlier, Chanel Rouge Rubis and Tom Ford Carnal Red are close in shade but these two are more vibrant once compared to the rest of the bunch.

Final thoughts: Two lovely reds from Tom Ford if you are in search for one this holiday season. Both have great formula but to me Trophy Wife stands out by its beautiful fuchsia sheen and perfect opacity by one coat.

Guerlain Crazy 68 Terracotta Healthy Glow Powder Swatch & Comparison from Crazy Paris Holiday 2013 Collection

Dedicated to their signature store on Avenue des Champs-Élysées, number 68, Guerlain released their holiday compacts this year with number 68 on their lid. I knew I would fall in love with Crazy 68 Météorites Illuminating Compact for a photoshop finishing effect to my makeup. What I didn't know was that I would opt for another piece from this collection even before Météorites and it would be bronzer. Bronzer during winter? Really?

It all happened like this. I was visiting KaDeWe in Berlin. Friends went to food court at the top most floor. I would check Tom Ford counter and walk around the cosmetics department before joining them. Walking by Guerlain Counter, I have seen that Guerlain holiday collection was released. It was the first time I could touch and feel so started playing with it. A lovely SA, presumably from France, assisted me to try out some of those on my face. I had full face makeup, so all I could try was the powders. After that I decided not to buy anything because I didn't want to carry it around with me all night. I went up and met friends, one of them said "wow, what have you put on your face?". It was Crazy Terracotta singing...

You would wonder what it is, it has all browns and vivid pink mixed in a pretty way. Once I swirl my brush and apply it on the cheeks, I get a nice healthy glow. It is a blush for me, not a bronzer. It is subtle but it is definitely there on my NC25 complexion. To give you a better idea, I pulled out some blushes and bronzers from my stash.

I included my favorite bronzer, Guerlain 4 Seasons Terracotta #03 Naturel Brunettes in the bunch, to show how the color of Crazy Terracotta look nothing like a bronzer. Newly released Chanel Joues Contraste #85 Evocation is also deeper, more brown and denser once compared. Soleil Tan de Chanel in #917 Sable Rose is also more brown, but similar in intensity and lightness. Closest products I have in my stash are Diorskin Nude Paradise Duos in #001 Pink Glow and #002 Coral Glow. They are both a tad darker, denser. As for the shade, I would say Crazy Terracotta of Guerlain is between these two, having some coral and pink in the mix.

It was easy to find an FOTD for Crazy Terracotta since I am wearing this one almost every day. I like using it with a dense blusher brush, like Tom Ford one. I also used it with Suqqu Blush Brush but took sometime to build up the color. Below I am wearing it together with Laura Mercier Artist's Palette on eyes, Guerlain Rouge G Madame Reve on lips. I find the resulting look very natural on my complexion.

Final thoughts: Guerlain Crazy 68 Terracotta Healthy Glow Powder is a gorgeous blush on my complexion, absolutely loving it at the moment. For darker complexions, I am guessing it would make a good all over powder. If you are fair and can't get along with bronzer, this might be the dream bronzer for you to start using one.

Guerlain La Laquer Couleur #861 Sulfurous from Crazy Paris Holiday 2013 Collection, Swatch & Comparison

Do you remember the post back in July, when I was reviewing Guerlain La Lacquer in Madame Batifole from Fall 2013 collection, I have written this "The only thing I keep asking myself is, will the nail polishes in Guerlain's line break free of the lip products and will eventually also have unique interesting shades"

Well friends, the time has come! Let me introduce you to Sulfurous...

Guerlain La Laquer Couleur #861 Sulfurous

Yes, it is the first nail polish which doesn't go matchy matchy with one of their lip products and indeed a nice interesting shade a chameleon. One moment you are like I know this is a deep plum, then next moment you change your mind and identify it as a grayish brown, but there are times you are unsure if it would make a better bluish anthracite.

The formula is nice and opaque with two coats. Once light shines upon your nails, you will see subtle multi color reflexions. Sulfurous has a metallic finish but I didn't have problem with brush strokes.

After I applied the polish on to the nails, I knew I didn't have any dupes. I could see though that this shades is more Dior than Chanel, if you know what I mean. So here comes three close Dior polishes from my stash for a comparison.

It turns out Dior #782 Silver Purple is more gray, Dior #972 (or Dior Shadow which is very close to that one) is more plum/red, Dior #886 New World Purple is more brown and warm.

Final thoughts: Yes to free La Laquer! Don't let lipsticks suppress nail polishes! Viva Revolution ;-) Interesting chameleon shade, which is appropriate for fall but I don't think it is necessarily for holidays. Therefore there is also an ultra violet top coat in the collection to give it a holiday glow.

Guerlain Crazy 68 Météorites Illuminating Compact Swatch & Comparison from Crazy Paris Holiday 2013 Collection

I am slowly making my way through the holiday releases.

Guerlain's Holiday Collection is just released a week ago in Germany when I was visiting Berlin. I got to play around with the products and went for both of the compacts and nail polishes for the time being. I resisted the eye shadow palette but I don't know how long I can carry on with that, we will see. First product I would like to share with you is the illuminating pressed powder...

This year's powder is hosted in a plastic compact. It feels lighter once compared to last year's Wulong, which was metal. It is not necessarily a drawback though, you would definitely appreciate it after you start carrying it around in your purse.

The shades include minty green (to even out redness), pink and lavender (to brighten up the compexion), white (to illuminate), tan (for sun kissed effect). Of course the shades are all very light and the resulting effect is rather a tone of white but on the compact you can see the pretty colors forming a nice pattern.

Here is Crazy 68 Météorites with last year's compact Wulong side by side. Just to refresh your memory, Wulong was a jaw dropping $170. This amount was mostly paid for the heavy metal compact which could be refilled.  Crazy 68 Météorites retails for only $69. Still it is not cheap in any means but if you were eyeing lat year's compact and couldn't pull the trigger because of the price, here is a nice surprise from Santa.

Once swatched together (and very very heavily), you can see that Wulong was warmer. It can also be seen by looking at the shade combination in the compact. Warmer toned ones among us, might find Wulong to be more natural looking. For me, I prefer Crazy 68 Météorites because it brightens up my complexion much better, bringing life to it. Another difference between the two is how different colors are brought together. Wulong has more color transitions, which doesn't necessarily help once I swirl my brush all over it. To me, it is just prettier to look at. All in all I am loving Crazy 68 Météorites, even more than its terribly expensive twin Wulong.

I have heard that some of the products of Guerlain's holiday collection are already sold out in US, but in Germany, they can still be found. The Illuminating Compact 68 Météorites is even available online at the time I am writing that post. Do also check out eccentuals, they always stock up quiet well and their prices are very competitive. 

Final thoughts: Guerlain Crazy 68 Météorites already became my go to finishing powder since I brought it home with me (I don't have oily skin so can live without a setting powder). I am enjoying soft brightness it brings to my skin. Wish it would be permanent.

Giorgio Armani #302 Clash, #303 Dazzling, #505 Eccentrico Nail Polishes Swatches & Comparison from Eccentrico Collection for Holiday 2013

Today I have some eye/nail candies to share with you. The nail polishes from Giorgio Armani's Holiday Collection, Eccentrico. These are dazzling, clashing and definitely eccentric for holiday season, so the names are just right, let me introduce you to Giorgio Armani Nail Lacquer in #302 Clash, #303 Dazzling and #505 Eccentrico.

Before I start with the swatches, I would like to apologize for some blurriness going on in there. Mind you I have made hundreds of photos, each of them turned out to be that way. Apparently my photography skills are not good enough to work with crazy brights. Have any tips for the next photo shoot? Please leave a comment below...

I would like to start with #302 Clash, a very bright apricot orange. This one is basically glowing. I don't know if it is neon, maybe not that but very close. The consistency is rather thick, but I find it good for a bright creme. With the first coat Clash is a little streaky but the second coat evens it out. I used two coat for the photo below.

Next comes #303 Dazzling. After the crazy orange Clash, this bright orange leaning coral looks more wearable but don't be fooled by its appearance. On the nails this is also very funky, brighter than all of my other corals. Consistency of Dazzling was perfect, no streakiness, almost opaque in one coat but I used two for the photo below.

Crazy orange, bright coral, what else would you like? Maybe a funky pink? There you got it. On the nails #505 Eccentrico is the brightest blue based pink of them all. Below you can see all of the closest shades together. Armani #302 Clash is closest to June from the Chanel's I own, which is paler and more subdued. Dior #438 comes close but is more yellow. Armani #303 Dazzling is more orange than Riviera #537 from Dior. Chanel #617 Holiday is close to Dazzling but a little more red and darker. Armani #505 Eccentrico is closes to Chanel #489 Rose Insolent, which is more blue based and a little darker. Chanel #571 Fracas comes close to Eccentrico but slightly warmer.

Below I swatches closest shades on the nails to give a better idea. Dior Mango from 2013 Cruise Collection leans more yellow. I find Armani Clash to be more flattering than Mango, so if you missed that one and if you are into oranges, you may want to check Clash out.

Armani Dazzling is close to Chanel Holiday, which is a tad darker. On the nails Dazzling glows and next to it Holiday, although bright, looks rather understated.

Armani Eccentrico is close to Chanel Fracas from 2013 Spring Collection. Eccentrico is a tad more blue based and again brighter once compared.

Final thoughts: They are bright, they are loud. I don't know if I would be brave enough to wear them during winter but I know I can't wait until summer. Either way I am planning to mix&match these candies with the equally flashy Armani Maestro Lipsticks from the same collection, which I also picked up and have been loving since then.
