Clarins Instant Glow Spring 2016, Review, Swatch & FOTD

I am wishing everyone that you are having a better weekend than we do (this wish doesn't go to our neighbors who turned our lives to hell). We are wandering between hotels and another flat we rented since there is no water at home. It is very hard to be able to go on with that. I was so happy to be able to blog more frequently during the next days but now this came up *sigh* If you don't hear from me in the next days, you know why. Please wish us luck that tomorrow things go smoothly and we start with an action plan.

To get my mind off things a little, I played with Clarins' Spring make-up items and I would like to share my thoughts with you on Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid, Ombre Iridescent #07 Silver Plum eyeshadow and Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom lipstick. This collection surprised me in a very good way so I hope I can bring my enthusiasm to the post although I am not feeling especially cheerful due to the situation at home. Here it goes, right after the jump...

Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid, Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom,  Ombre Iridescent #07 Silver Plum

One of the most exciting products in Clarins' Instant Glow Collection is a new BB Cream, called BB Skin Detox Fluid. It comes in a tube with pump dispenser, it is easy to use and hygienic. BB Skin Detox Fluid is given to have SPF 25, to be oil-free, non-comédogéne and the sunscreen is 100% mineral based. There are no nano sunscreen particles as far as I see and no parabens but it is slightly perfumed and alcohol is listed in the ingredients, something to consider if you are sensitive to that.

The texture of BB Skin Detox Fluid reminds me of one of my all time favorite BB Creams Lingerie de Peau from Guerlain. Clarins BB Skin has medium coverage and it applies easily, covering some of the spots and evening out the skin tone nicely. It can be build up without getting cakey. It doesn't emphasize any dry patches and my dry skin feels moisturized and smooth after the application.

Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid SPF 25

I am loving the texture of Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid and how it feels on the skin but I am kind of confused about the shade range. It comes in 4 shades so considering how much Clarins care about the fair ladies, I thought 01 Light would be a match for me. After all I am using #02 from Clarins Instant Concealer (reviewed here, one of my all time fav concealers) since 01 is too light for me. After trying out Clarins BB Skin Detox I was surprised to find out that there is nothing light about 01 Light. I think 01 Light is somewhere around NW35. 00 Fair on the other hand is a good match for my NC20ish complexion but unfortunately it is very pink based. Since I have natural undertones, pink based or yellow based foundations doesn't look too odd against my skin tone but it cools down the complexion quite a bit.

You can see the comparison of Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid #00 Fair, #01 Light to Guerlain Parure Gold 02, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua B20 and B10 as well as Dior Nude Air 20 and YSL Fusion Ink B20 (which is one of the best matches to my complexion at the moment). By the way do you see how much Chanel Vitalumiere oxidizes? I have to tell you that Clarins BB Skin Detox does that too. You can see the difference between before/after photos which were taken right after applying BB Skin Detox and FOTDs at the end of the review which looks much darker.  If you are interested in this product, I recommend you apply it on your face and wait a little before committing.

You can see the effect of Clarins BB Skin Detox on me. I am not wearing any concealer but it manages to even neutralize most of my dark circles as well as my sun spot and many other spots going on at the moment (thanks to stress). This is exactly the right amount of coverage for me, without hiding my skin too much but nicely evening everything out.

Before/After: Clarins BB Skin Detox Fluid 00 Fair

Wishing some color? I have one of the cream-to-powder eyeshadows for you, Clarins Ombre Iridescente #07 Silver Plum and Clarins Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom. These are both released with Instant Glow Spring Collection and to the best of my knowledge they will be joining the permanent line.

Clarins Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom,  Ombre Iridescent #07 Silver Plum

Clarins Rouge Eclats are nicely pigmented. They are described as Satin Finish Age-Defying Lipsticks. I purchased a nice old rose tone of this formula but I can't recall the name and the number since my mom took it away. She liked how it felt on her mature lips. Rouge Eclat are not very long lasting but they moisturize and protect the lips without settling on the lines. #25 Pink Blossom is a cool white based medium pink. It is a lovely fresh shade for spring.

Swatch: Clarins Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom

Onto my favorite item, Clarins Cream-to-Powder Ombre Iridescente #07 Silver Plum. Just check out this shade *sighs happily*. This is exactly my type of plum taupe with the right amount of shimmer. It applies like a dream too, the following swatch is one swipe. It doesn't produce any fall out although to me it feels more like a powder than a cream. #07 Silver Plum is warmer than #03 Aquatic Grey of last summer's look (reviewed here). These last all day on me with a primer. If you have very oily lids, I recommend you to try it out before buying because I sense a little tendency to crease without a primer. But, the shade, it is to die for!

Swatch: Clarins Ombre Iridescent #07 Silver Plum

Here is my Clarins Instant Glow make-up look. I am wearing BB Skin Detox Fluid 00 Fair but you can see here it looks much darker since it oxidizes a bit. On my eyes I applied Ombre Iridescence #07 Silver Plum all over and blended with a clean brush over the crease. On my lips I am wearing Rouge Eclat #25 Pink Blossom which I also applied to the cheeks as a subtle blush.

FOTD: Clarins Instant Glow Spring 2016

Check out Melanie's review of Instant Glow too.

Final thoughts: I love all three of the items although my favorite is of course the purplish taupe eye shadow. The texture of BB Skin Detox is exactly as I want, medium coverage and hydrating but the shade range is a little confusing. The lightest shade 00 Fair right for NW20-25, 02 Light already is around NW30-35. Rouge Eclat is lovely, especially for mature lips. #25 Pink Blossom is a fresh pink for the upcoming season.

Availability/Price: Clarins Spring Look is now available at the counters, I spotted it at Breuninger Stuttgart already. BB Skin Detox Fluide is 36,50€ for 45 ml, Ombre Iridescentes are 24,50€ for 7 g, Rouge Eclats are 24,50€ for 3 g.

Are you eyeing any products from Clarins' Spring?

  1. I really like the lip shade, but from memory I'm not a huge fan of the Clarins scent in their lipsticks. But it is super pretty! The eyeshadow though is stunning,
Hope your week gets better :-)

  2. You are right, this has some cherry smell. I personally also like lipsticks when they are not scented but all of the brands I like have scented lipsticks (Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior etc.etc.). I believe maybe most of the people like scent after all?
Eyeshadow is exactly my type of shade :-) I am hoping this week our situation will get clear, want to sleep close to my make-up lol.

  3. Oh wow, I was getting very excited about the BB cream until I reached the swatch. That is seriously pink! And quite dark for a 00 shade even before it oxidises!! I am NC20, with yellow subtone, so I don't think I can make it work :X

On the other hand, I am very excited for the cream eyeshadows. I bought all of them when they first launched them and I think they are fantastic!

  4. Hi Tirurit,
NC20 would be matching to 00 Fair but if your undertones are very warm and you like more yellow based foundations, then it might be too pink for you. You know some people like to neutralise their undertones for different makeup to work. For example I go for yellowish base if I wear corals but more neutral or pinkish base if I wear pinks.
Cream Eyeshadows are so good, I am tempted to check out the other shades, might pick up the pink one too. I know silver greens doesn't work on me all that well.

  5. Well, yeah, that is exactly why I use yellow based foundations. In general, my body is more yellow toned and my face has redness (sensitive) around the nose and chin, so I use yellow toned foundations to match my body and neutralise the redness. For years they kept matching me with pink based shades and I looked kind of odd! XD

Definitely give those other shades a try ;)

  6. I adore the lipstick on you. The formula sounds great, like something to look into. I am always on the look out for a pink near to TF Jack in a new formula. And I love those whitened pinks so much. Very flattering for neutral tones.

  7. Oh my goodness! The new BB cream looks so fabulous on you! I think the pinky/peachiness really brightens up your skin in a beautiful way. Your skin looks perfected and not the least bit cakey. Echoing transient beauty on the shade match for me. :(

The cream shade color is perfection! Looks like a deeper version of Chanel Illusoire? I love how pigmented it looks.

  8. I hope everything works out for you soon and you can move back home.

The lightest shade of this base is too pink for me and the darker one definitely too dark.
One of my favourite foundations is Sisley Phyto Teint Expert, have you tried it? I've also had a sample of the new Les Beiges foundation and really liked it.

The eyeshadow is so pretty but I've bought too many recently so if it's permanent I may get it later.

Unfortunately I generally find Clarins lip products too fragranced, especially as they tend to be flavoured as well.

Hope you get your water back soon x

  11. What a beautiful look on you. I'm really loving the Ombre Iridescent. I need to find them at a counter and take a look. The color really speaks to me.
