Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora and Color Lip Protector Ex-01 for Summer 2015, Review, Swatch & FOTD

I hope you are all having a wonderful week. Since Friday is holiday here, there is only one more day left to this week. My appointment yesterday went very well, but I feel like someone drove a truck over me. I think after all the travelling, now I need some holidays. I am definitely planning to take it easy for the long weekend.

But till then I have so many pretties to share with you. I get so excited and start jumping around when I play with beautiful make-up. I am talking about Suqqu Summer!  I brought these with me from Japan and took them with me to the States. I put on Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora in the morning at the day of my presentation at the conference then went down to have a breakfast. I was staying on the 43th floor, which was way below than last time when I attended the same conference. Back then I enjoyed 63th floor. There is something about being so high up. One feels like god, lol. Anyway, went down for breakfast and ordered an omelette from a super sweet guy with rasta. I ordered from him the day before but this time he looked at me and said "wow you look so beautiful today!". That must have been... Suqqu!

Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora and Color Lip Protector Ex-01 for Summer 2015

Now that is true that I am biased when it is Suqqu. I love their Eye Shadow Formulas and recently I am hooked with their highlighter. To me Suqqu is a brand which delivers consistent quality. That said some of their offerings are more on the sheer and wearable side. I like these too but generally I prefer a good pigmented eye shadow. This is why, if you are like me, be prepared to fall head over heels with their Summer Collection!!!

Suqqu Summer Collection is tiny but exciting. It is composed of two Eye Color Palettes in Ex-01Benikakesora (red summer sky) which has bordeaux and a beautiful multi-faceted rose gold. Ex-02 Yosaizora (night sky with colors, such as fireworks) which I will be showing you today is a combination of navy and bronze. With this collection Suqqu also releases a limited edition tinted version of their much loved Lip Protector which was not available in UK before. Color Lip Protector Ex-01 has SPF20 and it aims to protect your lips against UV damage and dryness. The tint in it is very subtle so once I swatch this, it doesn't show up so well on my arm. But on the lips it give a subtle sheen and color, which you can see in the first FOTD below.

Now let's come to the trio which makes my heart skip a beat, Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora. The formula is Suqqu at its best, very long lasting and silky. It is not powdery and the shades are all very pigmented.

Left (A): is a deep navy blue with satin finish and very subtle lighter blue shimmer. It can be worn full on for a smoky eye, used as a liner for a softer eye look or can be used as a definition shade on the crease and outer corner.

Middle (B): a mid toned warm bronze with satin to shimmery finish. The shimmer in that is very complex and beautiful and mostly "cool" which balances the warmness of the base shade in a nice way. I like it mostly as all over the lid.

Right (C): although this looks like white under my lighting, it is a light opalascence pink. You can see the effect in the swatches I posted on Instagram better in store lighting. This shade can be used as a base but I also like it to bring it over on the deeper shades to make them more shimmery. You can see at the swatches below, once C is layered over A, it looks like night sky, seriously pretty!

I can't stress more how one should mix these shadows to layer them over each other. Try layering and many other brands will fail (will look patchy) but Suqqu always turns into most interesting shades. Look at the beautiful taupe below once everything is layered together. Isn't it breath taking? Good thing about it is that you can control the shade and put more of B and it will be warmer. Add a bit more A and it will be cooler, more C it will be more shimmery.

Below I applied these in my favorite and very "straightforward" way. I applied the bronze shade (B) all over the lid, added a bit of navy (A) to the outer corner and crease. I then applied some A on the inner corner and over B. Since the navy shade is really really pigmented, I find this as the best way to wear it for a day look. I almost never use deep shades as liners since I usually don't use eye liner at all. But bringing the bronze all over the lid and navy as an eye liner would be another very wearable and pretty option for the day.

Below I combined Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora on the eyes with Suqqu Balancing Cheeks #01 Momoshuiro Blush Duo (reviewed here) on the cheeks and Color Lip Protector Ex-01 on the lips. I tapped a tiny amount of Suqqu Highlighting Liquid (mentioned here) on the high points of the cheeks.

I would like to also show you a full on smoky eye make-up using Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora. I didn't blend it all too much to show you how pigmented these go on the eyes. I applied the navy shade (A) to the inner and outer edge and the bronze (B) to in the middle. I then added some of the shimmery light pink (C) in the middle to bring more dimension. If you use that, be sure to highlight the inner corner better. Afterwards when I was editing the photos, I was like whoops, maybe a little highlight would open up the eyes better. Nevertheless here is the eye look...

Here is more of a night look using Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora on the eyes, Dior Nude Tan Blush Harmony #001 Pink Sunrise (previously reviewed here) on the cheeks and Color Lip Protector Ex-01 on the lips. I felt like this eye look needed a bit more definition on the cheeks.

FOTD: Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora

Here are two of the beauties side by side once more. I also like the white summer packaging, silimar to what Tom Ford does but Suqqu did it even before. Both of the brands have a special place in my heart. I wonder if it is because they can dress in white in such a gorgeous way.

I can't wait for the red/rose gold palette either. When I swatched it at the counter in Tokyo, I gasped and everyone laughed because I called me husband "Hey look how beautiful it is!" with an excited voice. I would like to thank Junko and Kozue who showed us great hospitality and spend time with us in Tokyo. I also got to enjoy my first Gankin Massage. You can see me having it here. It was a wonderful experience. That was the day of our departure and my skin was happier than ever, even after such a long flight. The massage also visibly tones the cheek bones and works on lymph drainage. I can recommend it to everyone who is close to a Suqqu counter.

Suqqu Eye Color Palette Ex-02 Yosaizora and Color Lip Protector Ex-01 for Summer 2015

Final thoughts: Suqqu Eye Color Palette  Ex-02 Yosaizora is a very pretty natural palette which layers to a taupe perfection, can be worn for a day or night look. The shades are very pigmented, ultra long lasting and the shimmer is so complex and beautiful.  Color Lip Protector Ex-01 is great for protecting your lips from UV and dryness. Its sheer quality combines with all the crazy summer eye looks you can create using one of the trios. All thumbs up!

Suqqu Summer Collection will be released on the14th of May. Suqqu is available in-store at Fenwick of Bond Street, Harrods, Selfridges and Selfridges online.

Are you eyeing any of these? Do you layer eye shadows?

  1. This palette is beautiful and you've created beautiful looks with it. On another note, can I ask how you're liking the Dior Tie Dye blush in Coral Sunset? How does it compare to Armani Cheek Fabric in Dolci? If I have Dolci do I "need" Coral Sunset? Thank you.:)

  3. Hey Sara, whoa I love how the trio looks layered! It's got such lovely depth! Also, what does your husband say when you say stuff like that? Dr. D sometimes humors me along. Other times he looks at me with a blank expression LOL

  5. Oh, the eyeshadow trio is so so pretty! I've always admired Suqqu stuff but this might be the first thing I actually want to get my hands on. :)

  8. Wow, I never thought about layering shadows like this. It's like getting 5 shadows for price of 3, and they layer so seamlessly, not muddy-looking at all!

  9. These shadows are so gorgeous, and the way they transform when you mix them is fantastic! I've never tried Suqqu but it looks very promising.

  10. Ohhh gosh, I was just thinking to myself this morning that I should probably destash last summer's trios... i really didn't care for those. But this summer's are LOVE!!! I'm so happy to see a return to pigmented colors for SUQQU... last year was all muted mixed up shades that I really didn't care very much for. Thanks for this enabling, Sara! Have a good rest this weekend! I'm going to do the same!

  11. Hi, Sara! I bought both of summer suqqu palettes after seeing them on your instagram, but will only receive them in May. I would not layer 3 colors in order to get one composite shade, if this is what you mean. I probably have that shade already as a single, so it is not worth making an effort / taking a risk for me (I tried). if I want to add something here and there (and I always do) I need to layer all 3 colors in that area once again. It is impossible to apply colors in exactly the same proportions on both eyes, so after some touch ups my eyelids end up looking differently and I lose my patience :)

  12. LOL! At such moments I can read thoughts from looking at my bf' face - what has she found again? what is it btw? must be some piece of plastic..we already have many of them! why is she so excited about it, is it normal? no way this small thing costs that much! I don't know whether I like it on you because I don't see it. No, still can't see anything. Eh, looks like we are buying it :(

  13. Ahahaha you cracked me up so bad!!! Dr. D sometimes asks me "what is this really? Really?" when he is bored. "Is this a POWDER? Is that how you call it? No? It's a bronzer? What does it do? Why do you need it?" *facepalm*

  14. Lovely review Sara! You always make me want to RUN (or is it fly) to a counter for a big splurge. Looks like a beautiful little collection for summer. How beautiful you look in blue tones!

  16. Oh no!!! I was thinking of getting the #19 awafujisukashi quad instead of this trio... But. But! BUTT!! You wear it soooo beautifully! Especially love the dramatic look you created, so complex and glowy! I think I might just get both the trios! Thank you for the great review!

  17. LOL I think #19 can wait. These are too pretty to miss. Seriously Yosaizora is one of my favorite Suqqus of all time. Easily on the first five. It is natural and wearable yet diverse. Since it is a trio, it is also more affordable.

  18. Hi Jenni,
If you plan to get one, you might consider this one. Trios are more affordable and this one is really very wearable but pigmented and interesting at the same time.

  19. Hi Belly.
LOL you made me laugh. I want to fly to a counter too, maybe we should do that together. Not with my husband who was waiting me all the time so I got stressed. I couldn't spend enough time at the counters (if you ask him he has another story to tell of course lol).
Thanks so much for your lovely comment as always :-***

  20. Hi Jane,
wise move! Pre order it, reserve it, do whatever, don't miss them both. May is tomorrow, so not so much time left. Get excited! They are super pretty :-)
About layering more than two shades, I know what you mean. But once you start playing with them and blend them together, this happens anyway. I don't usually do it all over the lid though, only in the middle where they meet :-)

  21. Hi Linda,

Don't you like #03 from last summer? I believe it was called Aoruri. I love love that one too!

These are stronger in pigment though. The deeper shade is really very pigmented, so it becomes hard to control if you don't go slowly. I love love it that way but I can see people going crazy with it. Not you (or me) though lol.

  22. Hi Lulle, thanks for stopping by xox
are you in UK? Or somewhere where you can get your hands on Suqqu?
I recommend you start with Yosaizora but I have to warn you, you may not able to stop lol.

  23. Hi Katherine,
only a few formulations can really be layered seamlessly. Le Metier was used to be one, do you remember them? And Suqqu is one of the best layer able I came across. It also shows how finely milled it is. Love layering and exploring new options with these.

  24. Hi there, if you can get your hands on Suqqu, I really recommend starting with this one ;-)

  25. Hi Agata, thank you :-*
yes these two are like start on night :-)
They told me this particular trio was inspired by fireworks on night sky. Isn't it beautiful?

  26. Hi Lena,
I know what you mean. It is hard to get so one has to be really sure before pulling the trigger. This one is stunning, it can be a good one to start with.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hope you like it as much as I do :-)
Check out Selfridges online before 14th too, sometimes they release a couple of days earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hahaha Sunny,
they same here. Depending on the mood of the day it can be anything between rolling eyes to showing interest. Hahah

  29. Why do you need it is a good question we all have to ask ourselves but we shouldn't! :-P

  30. Hi Anne, thanks.
I like Pink Sunset a lot, because I am more of a pink blush girl. Coral one works nice too. I think both of them are great products.
Dolci is more of an apricot, not coral on me, so I don't think they are close.

  31. Thank you, Sara. That's really helpful.

  32. In the middle of the sea! Not kidding, a Spanish island in the middle of the Mediterranian. Lots of tourists but not that easy to get my hands on certain brands, specially when I like to check things in person preferably

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh that sounds complicated. You have at least great weather and sea though, this is what we don't have here *sigh*

  34. Hi Sara! I am wondering if that's the same palette as I picked up yesterday from Selfridges... Same name, same colours but mine is in a black packaging? Also the middle shade has a more plum brown pay off on my eyes. Loving it actually, can't wait to wear it tomorrow and enjoy the long weekend (in the UK we worked on Friday but have Monday off instead!) :D :) x

  35. I'm now married to the father of my two kids who i love so much. Before all these sudden happiness took place in my life i went through hell.I dated my fiance for 8years with little breakup's between until a whore came into our life who was my best friend. When i discovered my fiance was cheating on me with her i was so mad at him that i could not even look at him anymore. As time went on i and my fiance was trying to fix things but my best friend wanted us to be apart from each other in other to have him to herself which she later achieved.Soon my fiance wasn't paying attention to me anymore. All he could think of was how he could dump me and his two beautiful kids in other to be with my best friend.I was so heart broken because i loved him so much i tried all means to get him back but it wasn't possible. After a long while of unhappiness i meant a spell caster on-line whose name is dr Aisedion i explained my problem to him and he demanded for some materials to prepare a spell and i proved the materials and since then my life has been transformed from sadness to total happiness. If you have a similar problem he might be the right person to solve your problem so if you need help contact him via DRAISEDIONSPELLCASTER@OUTLOOK.COM all your problem will be solve.

  36. Hi Eleni,

these are not released yet at Selfridges and they have white compacts. There are three more permanent trios with black cases. I reviewed #03 Aoruri here: http://www.colormeloud.com/2014/08/suqqu-eye-color-palette-03-aoruri-for.html

I also own the other two, they are lovely but a little sheerer/less pigmented than the summer trios.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am really liking the look of those two, I'm trying to be more picky
with what I buy this year as am on maternity money but it sure is difficult when all these pretties keep coming out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Trios are a little more affordable than the quads and this one is very versatile. If I would have a short list this season, I would include this one in, just saying ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes you are right! Mixed up the names : ). I really love my one, but will check the limited edition when out too!
