La Mer Renewal Oil Review

I hope you are all having a wonderful week. It is hump day but since two third of my teaching load is on the last two days of the week, poor me, I have to go on humping as rest of you start getting ready for the weekend. Today it is very rainy and no sight of sun here although the temperatures are still kind of friendly. At such a miserable day, I thought I share some shots I took on a sunny day with flowers at the park.

Today it is about a new addition to La Mer line, Renewal Oil. After all I am so head over heels with La Mer Illuminating Eye Gel (reviewed here), I could hardly wait for the release of their facial oil, another category of skin care I love. I have been testing the deluxe lab sample which was provided to me for over a month and I would like to share my thoughts about it.

La Mer Renewal Oil

I recall that you are as much interested as I am in the facial oils. My reviews of Sisley Black Rose Face Oil (here) and the Guest Post of Chic Science on topic "All about Facial Oils" (here) were very well received. I have also reviewed a few more affordable options such as Darphin's Revitalising Oil (here) and Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil (here) and had a great discussions over the comments back then. When I heard that La Mer was about to complement their line with an oil, I was very curious to share my thoughts and hear yours.

La Mer Renewal Oil comes in a 30 ml glass bottle with a push dropper. It feels luxurious and I like the fact that one can see how much product is still in the bottle. It is not one-way but the applicator is hygienic. The dropper mechanism is robust and it is easy to dose depending on your need.

La Mer Renewal Oil

La Mer's Renewal Oil as the name suggest, next to its aromatic, soothing and smoothing properties targets especially for anti-aging, anti-wrinkle treatment. A little different from the other oils I have tried so far, it has two phases, La Mer's signature Miracle Broth™ has to be gently mixed with the other ingredients before the application. You can see in the photo below that the product is normally transparent and separated into two layers (phases). After I shake it a little, the ingredients are mixed and ready to be applied.

La Mer Renewal Oil Before/After Shaking The Bottle

I was kindly provided the ingredients list which I would like to share with you. The main ingredient, Meadow Foam Seed Oil is known for its skin softening and moisturising properties. Jojoba Oil is one of the most popular oils to date for its resemblance to the skin sebum and its anti-oxidant properties. Almond oil is rich in Vitamins A, B and E and is great to improve the complexion, retain the glow while hydrating. Sesame seed oil is said to be a potent anti-oxidant and a cell growth regulator. Eucalyptus Leaf Oil was a little surprising for me to find here, which is listed below the regenerating oils. Sweet Almond Oil nourishes and reconditions. La Mer Renewal Oil is a combination of more than ten different oils which makes it the richest oil I have tried so far.

How does it feel? Interesting enough it is so light weight that almost feels like nothing on the face. The consistency of La Mer Renewal Oil is much thinner and runnier than the other oils I have tried. This makes it a great candidate to apply under (or with) the foundation on a daily basis. It doesn't sit on the skin but is being absorbed quickly, leaving a healthy glow but no fatty feel behind. I am very sensitive to some of the essential oil scents and I am happy to report that La Mer Renewal Oil doesn't have a strong smell, it is very soft and soothing. It is always hard to review the anti-aging claims but I can feel that if I apply it in the evening, in the morning my skin wakes up in a good shape, plumped and energised. A few drops of that into my foundation is also great to protect and nourish the skin throughout the day while keeping the steps simple in the morning.

La Mer Renewal Oil is a facial oil on the first place but it is said to be great for hair and body as well. I feel though given the price of a 30 ml bottle, I would rather exclusively use it on my face until my yet unknown relative decides to add me to his last will. I am sure though my dryish hairs would love the product.

Final thoughts: Applied at night, La Mer Renewal Oil supports the the regenerative process of the skin. But I think its lightweight texture and high quality ingredients make La Mer Renewal Oil especially great for the day time usage with or under the foundation. It comes with a high price of 180€ for 30 ml but I recommend the believers of Miracle Broth™to check out the touch and feel of it. It is just released this month and now available at most of the counters.

Do you prefer thick or thin consistency in your facial oil?

Disclaimer: A deluxe sample (15ml) of the product in this post was provided free of charge for my consideration. The original product in the photos were lend for photo shoot. I am not paid for this review. All opinions are honest and my own.

  1. ooooooh - i love love love facial oils and i am very curious about this one!!!!! i didn't like Sisley's oil, but La Prarie's Swiss Diamond Oil is super-amazing (but pricey!). i enjoy Sunday Riley's Juno but it can sometimes be too rich!

thank you for your thoughts on this intriguing product!! xo

  2. I definitely prefer thinner consistency in oils. I've only had good experiences in some oils, as I find others too rich and they break me out. I'm curious about this one though. You make it sound amazing!

  3. I haven't really got into oils as yet. I have a bottle of Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate which drew a lot of positive reviews but I don't feel it makes any positive difference to my skin and I prefer the feel of a rich cream. Susan, London

  4. This seems like a lovely facial oil! I love how you took pictures of it outside, really makes me want to buy it haha! Have you tried any Sunday Riley products? I just bought the Artemis facial oil (also not sure if this is a serum or an oil, they use both words! So odd) and it smells horrendous! I seriously want to take it back because I'm not sure if I can tolerate the smell ($75 dollars worth!). So might look at this instead!

  5. Lovely pictures on a dire autumn day!!! I actually went by the La Mer counter yesterday (I piced up the Illuminating Eye Gel....I'd had a sample and was sold!) and they were out of samples of the oil, but I tried itl. It didn't irritate and felt so great so I think that when my Sisley Black Rose runs out, I may go for this. Other than that I haven't tried any facial oils.

  6. I love face oils that are rich at first but sink in quickly- this one sounds perfect! Not sure if I can handle the price tag, though!

  7. Hi Jenni,
this one sinks really quick, I was wondering if it works at all. But then see the glowing complexion, it is magic. I wished it would be a bit affordable though.

  8. Hi Bella,
I find that this one is kind of more lightweight compared to Sisley one but I find that Sisley is better for my dry complexion. That said there is no way I can apply Sisley in the morning under my foundation. It is a bit too much so I am enjoying La Mer in the mornings and Sisley at night. I think you have combination skin so you might like La Mer one even more than Sisley's.

  9. Hi Mika,
that is so sweet of you, thank you. The photos are hard to take and process since they are looking kind of like "floating in the air" but of course in reality no object floats unless it is the space or something lol. Anyway, they take some time so I am glad that you like them.
I haven't tried Sunda Riley before, we don't have it here over the counter, I have to "order" it online which is hard for skin care. I tried some sample size though and remember I loved it. Oh gosh, smell is so so important. I can't use some good skin care because I don't like the smell.

  10. Hi Susan,
I used Midnight Recovery. That one is close to the double phase one from Clarins. I have to say, I am not a big fan of both of them. I think you should maybe give a real facial oil a try. Maybe get a sample size of La Mer or Sisley one? I would love to hear your thoughts on them. Xox Sara

  11. Hi Lily,
I know what you mean. Some oils break me out too although I have rather dryish skin, it is acne prone. I can recommend this one especially if you are not very dry and want something with good ingredients without being thick nor too rich.

  12. I am very curious about La Praire's one, maybe I should go search for a sample of that. Why didn't you like Sisley one? Is it too rich for you?

  13. I think there is a lot of truth in this, Sara! I only ever use Sisley at night, but I only use it about twice a week because when I wake in the morning Shell could do great business on my face ;) LOL!

  14. The price tag is ouchie, but it's great how this wears well under foundation, so hard to find an oil that will do that, will be great for winter. BTW, your pics are gorgeous! I feel restored and regenerated just looking at them :)

  15. Alson thinking about the Sunday Riley ones which get good press and I like Good Genes. Have you tried any of them?

  16. Loccitane divine oil is very light, smells great and really makes my skin glow. You might want to try it. Limonene is a carcinogen is it not? Does this concern anyone that it is in the la mere oil formula?

  17. Good sharing, La Mer Renewal Oil’s Miracle Broth phase and Miracle Broth’s natural essential oils phase of eucalyptus and sesame are activated upon a gentle shake – allowing the key active oils to absorb quickly and deeply – enveloping the skin in nourishment that you will feel and see. 18. The second ingredient is dimethicone. I am sure it makes your skin feel good, but it dries skin and it smothers it which can cause acne. There are great skin oils out there. Read ingredients and research what you put in your body.
I wouldn't put this on for free bottles for life, insane to pay Estee Lauder $240 to smother skin in cheapo dimethicone.
Also make sure this ingredient isn't in your hair products, this can cause acne along hair line.

  19. I am not using any single product with silicones (excluding my hair oil) because it breaks me out and clogs my pores very badly, but I have to disagree with you. On my body I have very dry skin (oily on my face) and if I use oil-based product without any silicone in it, it just doesn't do anything. Dry skin needs some protective layer and silicones do it just fine. I also would not let this oil anywhere close to my face, under no circumstances, but I can imagine that people with dry skin can love it. Though, I agree the price is ridiculous for few oils mixed together with couples of vitamins and silicones. La Mer is a brand for those, who doesn't know any better and judges skin car eby its price. Fair enough, if someone wants to pay premium, why not. Perhaps it can work as a placebo :)
