Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation Review, Swatch & FOTD

It is Friday, big yay, *happy dance*. I wish you a wonderful start to the weekend! Today I was at home trying to get over the cra(m)ppy side of being a woman, sorry, too much information. Just know that if you have noticed me missing at social media or on the blog front, I had good excuses.

Today I have exciting news for you. If you are one of those people who were as disappointed as me to hear that one of your holy grail foundation formulations, Parure Gold, was discontinued, you will be delighted to know it is back! Guerlain revamped the formula and redesigned the packaging. After testing it over a month now, here comes my thoughts about the new version...

Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation

I believe that some of the best products in Guerlain line-up are the base products. I tried and loved their Parure de Lumiere and now discontinued Parure Extreme as well as the old formulation of Parure Gold Foundation. The only problem with these seemed to be the shade range which was pretty limited back then. The first Parure Gold was released in 2009 and it is the rejuvenating base of Guerlain line-up. The older bottles are black and have the same oval design as other bases such as Parure de Lumiere. The older formula had SPF 15  and PA ++ which denotes that it is degree 2 out of 3 protection against UVA rays.

Old vs. New

The package of new Parure Gold is now sleeker and looks more modern. It is almost rectangular with a round edge on the front side which is great since the cap always have to be placed right. Since it is slimmer, I like the way I can hold it in my hand much better and it saves some space for us foundation junkies. One thing which is missing in the new packaging though is a transparent strip to see how much foundation is left in the bottle (the the photo below).

Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation Old vs. New Packaging

New Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation is given to be improved in two points, the new "gold" pigments for a glow which makes the skin appear youthful and fresh. There are also new collagen and elastin boosters such as Hexapeptide and Myrrh- Extract to improve its rejuvenating effect.

On top of these claims, I can see two more improvements. One is the undertone of the foundation in their "beige" group (00 Beige, 01 Beige Pale, 02 Beige Clair, 03 Beige Naturel, 04 Beige Moyen and 05 Beige Fonce) and now less peach/pink and more natural. The sun protection degree of Parure Gold is also improved. It is now SPF 30 and has three degrees of UVA protection, given as PA +++. This is provided by Titanium Dioxide (nano). I believe with this move and the new shades (in total 12), Guerlain is going to gain back its best seller category in foundations not only in Asia but also elsewhere.

Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation Shade #02 Swatch, Old vs. New

The Shades

Here is a comparison of two of the shades I received and other foundation shades I have been using frequently. If you are around Chanel Vitalumiere 20 (which is something like MAC NC20 with more natural undertones) then you will probably like Guerlain Parure Gold #02 which is very close. My perfect match Tom Ford #03 Fawn in terms of lightness is a little lighter than Guerlain #02 but right now considering how tanned I am, I am doing just fine with #02. Once I start getting paler, I will mix it more and more with #00 which is warmer and slightly lighter than Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua #10 which I sometimes use alone during winter but most of the time I mix #20 and #10 from Chanel. You can see that Diornude Air #20 is more peachy which I don"t like on the swatches but it works just fine on my face. If you have cooler undertones, there are three Rosé-Beige shades, 11 Rose Pale, #12 Rose Clair and #13 Rose Naturel. There are also 2 Gold-Beige (Dore) and an Amber-Beige Shade to select from.

Swatch #00, #02, Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation vs. other foundations
The Finish/Coverage/Longevity

The name "gold" comes from the skin like youthful glow it claims to give and I agree to this. It is not matte, nor it is glow. I would describe it as "natural skin finish", close to the finish of Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation (reviewed here) but it has more coverage than Tom Ford. I would classify this as medium coverage. It applies very smoothly,  doesn't accentuate my dry patches but it is also not very hydrating which means it will work on normal to combination skin as well. If you are very dry, I recommend you applying a good moisturizer underneath.

You can see me below without any makeup and with only foundation. The photo with foundation doesn't look flat because Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation is a light master which knows how to reflect. It also stays put on me all day, much longer than any other foundations I am testing at the moment (close to my longest lasting foundation Diorskin Nude Air).

Before/After FOTD: Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation #02

Here are two FOTDs to give you the idea of the finish and how wonderfully it sits on the face. On the first photo I am only wearing foundation (no powder, no make-up, no concealer, well... nothing really). It evens out my skin tone and gives me a healthy glow. It doesn't look like a mask in any way thanks to its natural finish. Big love!

You can seen the make-up look with it here and here using Charlotte Tilbury and Urban Decay products). Other than that almost any other FOTD I have posted recently features Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation

FOTD with only Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation (no concealer, no make-up)

FOTD: Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation & Charlotte Tilbury + Urban Decay Make-Up

Power of make-up huh? On a good day I can even see myself rocking the foundation alone. What about a one last shot?

EDIT: I also add a photo with the ingredients, hope it is helpful.

Ingredients list: Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation

Final thoughts: More rejuvenation ingredients, better light reflecting properties, more sun protection, sleeker package and more shades. Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation returns better than ever. All thumbs up.

Availability: Guerlain Parure Gold Fluid Foundation should be released any time in Germany. I am hearing that the compact foundation is released at some countries in Asia which I will review soon. There is also a base with golden particles in the collection which I am super excited to try once it hits the counters here.

Do you own any Guerlain Foundations? Which one is your favorite?

  1. Hey Sara, sorry to hear about the cramps! Those really aren't fun :( I hope it's all over now!

Thanks for the review! I wasn't really looking forward to this because I thought it'd be super moisturizing, but since you have said it isn't, it might work for me as well. I have NO idea when it'll be available here tho! Haven't heard a word about it!

  2. You look beautiful even without the makeup, but I can see the foundation provides a beautiful finish. My sister actually loves Parure Gold foundation (and she probably doesn't know that it was revamped. (She isn't all that interested in makeup). I will tell her anyway. LOL

  3. Very impressive - this looks wonderfully natural, just evening tone but looking like your skin. Useful swatches for me too as I'm obviously just a tad lighter than you and same tone (I am between TF's Pale Dune and Fawn). Definitely going to try this one. Hope you are feeling better for the weekend!

  5. I was sooooo in love with the original Guerlain Parure Gold. In fact, it was my gateway product to makeup addiction. Wanting to talk about my new discovery, i googled "Guerlain Parure Gold", found Temptalia's blog and the rest is history.
Of course I realised a couple of months later that the undertone was not perfect for me, I found Nars foundation which makes my per-fect colours, and adios, RIP Parure Gold.
I am intrigued to see whether any of the current shades are yellow enough for me. In three years I have become so adept that I can choose the colour spot-on from online swatches LOL!

  11. Oh gosh I've been waiting for this for so long it's not even funny!! The shipment for the fluid foundation hasn't arrived yet, but the powder is already out I think. Can't imagine how much smoother the powder can get, waiting for your review! You look stunning btw!

unfortunately I don't know about the release dates but I think it will be any time soon. It is not released in Germany yet either.

Thanks, that is really so sweet of you to say that.

  14. Hi Sailorj,
Thanks for your kind words. I love Dior Nude Air as well but the undertone is a little off on me. After getting some tan, it now works better somehow. Parure Gold is exquisite, I am sure you will love it.

  15. Hi Linda,
I know I was also waiting for it like forever. I love the older version and have been using it very carefully not to spend too much. I will let you know about the powder very soon.

  16. Hi Bella,
thanks for your kind words, really very sweet of you :-**
That one was your make-up addiction gateway? So interesting to hear that. Mine was the older liquid eye shadows( which are not discontinued) of Chanel. Everybody hated them but I was a big fan.
I have the same feeling about the undertone, the Beige series was a bit too pink for my taste but it turns out now they are more natural and work on me. There is also an Ambre series with warmer undertones. 12 Shades in total, I think you have better chances of finding one which suits you. Cream Foundation... Now I have to try that one too!

  17. I think this is a formula which would work on combination skin as well. It should be available pretty soon, I am guessing since PR Samples came around a month ago.

  18. Hi Susan,
I am perfect match for TF Fawn although right now I am a bit deeper than that due to holidays. There are three rose shades but nothing between #00 and #02 as far as I see. You might like #00 though, that one has natural undertones and is about Chanel #10, if that is what matches you.
All weekend I was not feeling all that good but now a bit better :-)

  19. Hi Lena,
the finish of this foundation is to die for, it is healthy and natural looking. You should try it too :-) Steal your sister's bottle lol.

  20. Oh dear I just found it...it's powder not cream!!! Really creamy powder though, haha!! I can't believe i still have it! Must toss it though.

  21. Oh those are great! They are being renewed too, you will love the new one even more (review coming up).

  22. I know I'm one of the very few with this experience, but Guerlain foundations have never worked for me :( I tried Lingerie de Peau, Parure, Parure Extreme, and the old Gold, and nothing ever looked good. I must have difficult skin!
I'll probably try to get a sample to see if the new formula is a game-changer for me.

  23. I own Babyglow but much as I love its texture and all, I am unsure about the shades... only three and none matches me. I found the BB creme a touch too heavy when compared to others... Somehow Guerlain doesn't wow me in foundations, I found their base products better for drier skin. You look beautiful though!

  30. Hi Eleni,
I think you should try one of their regular foundations, Parure series like Parure Lumiere or Gold. I think you like lighter foundations right?

    ReplyDelete
  31. It looks like you have tried quite a bit of Guerlain foundations. What doesn't work, are they dry on you? Doesn't look right? Maybe you should try another application technique. I like applying it with my fingers and blend it with Rae Morris Radiance brush, this one does the magic. Do you have that one?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm so glad they've reformulated this one and made them less pink. #00 looks like it might just match me! I wonder if it is here yet. Will have to look! You look so pretty and glowy! Love it on you!

  33. Yes, I do... Vitalumiere Acqua being my fave, minus the colour selection though (even the beige is too peach!). Which one of the Guerlain foundations would you recommend for combination/sensitive skin Sara? Not too dewy, not too matte? Might have to pop by a counter and take some samples at some point.

  34. It helps me a lot !!
    Tx a lot Sara..

  35. I absolutely love this foundation but I need it in shade 00 the Asian shade. Do you know how I can get hold of that shade as I live in the UK. The lightest in the uk is 01 which is beige pale which is still to dark. Please can you help me. I have found it on the German site Douglas but I don't understand Germany so not sure if they deliver to the UK. Thank you

  36. Hi Leah,
00 is available in Germany. Douglas sends it to UK but you need a German address for the receipt. The shipping costs 4,95€. It might be that I need to pay for you and send it to your address. Please send me an e-mail at sara@colormeloud.com
