Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy Shine in Inspiring, Pure Color Envy in Insolent Plum, Review, Swatch, Comparison & FOTD

I don't know where the weekend go? Yesterday I was still feeling a little under the weather, with a bad headache, today I thought I am better but slowly I am feeling a little throat tickling? Let's see... Does anyone else have everyone sick at work and home?

Maybe you won't believe it but I haven't tried the highly praised Estée Lauder Envy Lipsticks until lately. Recently when they released the Envy Shine version of the formula, I got to test both of them. Today I would like to share my thoughts with you. I have Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy Shine in Inspiring, and Pure Color Envy in Insolent Plum for you.

Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy Shine in Inspiring, Pure Color Envy in Insolent Plum

Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy Shine in Inspiring is a milky reddish pink tone. On my lips it looks more like a mid-toned warm pink but on the swatches it almost looks like a understated coral tone. The formula reminds me of more pigmented versions of Rouge Coco Shines from Chanel. I found Estée Lauder Envy Shine in Inspiring to have a little less slip therefore it stays put on the lips for longer and doesn't move around as much as Chanel Coco Shines do on me. I really like the formula and hoping to pink up some more once they hit the counters here.

Swatch: Estée Lauder Lipstick Envy Shine in Inspiring

Here is me wearing Inspiring. I didn't think this rather warm tone would look nice on me but once applied it is a lovely warm pink which I can see myself wearing with stronger or natural eye looks alike. It is not a nude but it is a very easy to wear color for me.

FOTD: Estée Lauder Lipstick Envy Shine in Inspiring

I tried to find similar colors in my stash and I filled the back of my hand swatching and trying out but it turns out I don't have anything similar. The reason might be because I don't gravitate towards reddish or warmer shades. The closest I found in my stash were Guerlain Kiss Kiss in Pinky Groove (reviewed here), which has more of a frosty finish than "shine" and I certainly prefer shine to frost. I also tried tens of Chanel Rouge Coco Shines but didn't find something very close. Closest it got was Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Suspense (reviewed here) which is cooler.

The color I got to try out from Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy lipstick line is a lovely plummy pink. The shade and the formula is without hesitation love at first sight for me. For me most of the deep plums are way too red and Insolent Plum, which pulls more purple on me without being yet not too purple is a real winner. The formula is flawless. I now understand why everyone ended up with so many shades from this line. It is very lightweight, is pigmented and very long lasting. I applied it in the morning (1st layer blotted, second layer straight from the bullet) and ate a lunch in between. After lunch there was a lovely homogenous stain all over the lip. This lasted on me 3 more hours before it faded. Those type of deep plum shades are usually hard to get right and all thumbs up from me for Estée Lauder Insolent Plum.

Swatch: Estée Lauder Lipstick Pure Color Envy in Insolent Plum

Here is me wearing Estée Lauder Insolent Plum together with an otherwise natural eye look and minimal blush. It is of course a statement lip, almost as attention catching as a red but I prefer violets. Probably I am in minority here though. Longevity is very important for me since I am not big on touch ups. This is why I know though I am definitely getting more colors from the line. For this one all thumbs and toes up!

FOTD: Estée Lauder Lipstick Pure Color Envy in Insolent Plum

I love plummy pinks so I had a few similar colors which I could pull out for comparison. MAC Fashion Revival is deeper and matte but similar. Tom Ford Black Orchid is deeper and warmer. Tom Ford Didier (Moroccan Rouge) is warmer. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Emotion is also redder and more transparent. In all these shades I prefer Insolent Plum, I think I am seriously in love.

The packaging of both lines, Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy Shine and Pure Color Envy are close but the packaging of Envy Shines are slimmer. The bullets are also different, Shines have a flatter cut. Both have magnetic closure and very chic golden/navy packaging.

Final thoughts: Now I know what the fuzz is about, two of the Estée Lauder Envy Lipsticks I got to try are both phenomenal, both in Shine and Pure Color versions. I now have to check out the rest of the line to see if this is consistent. All thumbs up these two!

Have you tried Estée Lauder Lipsticks Envy lines?
Which shades would you recommend me to check out next?

  1. OOO stunning! Both of these are gorgeous on you! I have several shades from the original collection, but haven't really tested out the shine. As you can probably guess, my favorite is Defiant Coral. It's not so orange so it might be easier to pull off for you, but if that's not your thing, I know there are several beautiful shades in the line-up that you might enjoy (like Powerful and Tumultuous Pink)!

  2. Yay!!! Insolent looks AMAZING on you!!! I'm in the mood for the fuchsia-like plum (does that make sense?)... so i might just try that one too!! My favorite from the range is Dominant and Infamous!

  3. I love how these look on you! Envy Shine was released in Asia exclusively (last year) while the rest of the world got Envy Sculpt. I'm glad we're getting the other half now so both ranges are available worldwide. These lipsticks are definitely worth looking at. Estee Lauder definitely stepped up its game.

  5. Hi Sara :), I'm not particularly happy with my two Envy Lipsticks, as they are too opaque for my liking. The consistency is however a dream. Really looking forward to trying the shiny version. When are they gonna be available in DE?

  6. Oh dear. I just realised that not only do I have Insolent Plum, I also have all 4 your dupes. Maybe I like this colour :D? LOLOL!

  8. Oh I forgot to ask: what to you think, are they similar to the lip color shines by TF? (the little black ones, not the standard-sized, white ones) - I love the texture of those and also exited about the new shades that will come soon!

  9. Niiiice Sara! These look lovely on you! For some reasons I never got into Estee Lauder lipsticks... I found the texture too drying and the colour splits in my lips somehow. I also think the packaging is not so me (don't ask me why!). But looks like I will have to try these ones after your review - or at least try one and see how it goes and whether I get the same dryness. And by the way, I was off work sick all of last week week and came back today, only to find that half of our small office were sick/ off too! x

  10. Hi Eleni,

make sure that you don't get sick again. I have some colleagues who had it 2-3 times. Lots of vitamin and good sleep, at least this is what I am trying at the moment, minus sleep because of blogging ;-)
Have you tried new Envy line or are you talking about the old line. Because these are very moisturizing. But I have to admit almost nothing makes my lips dry so probably I am not a good lipstick test person after all.

  11. Hi!
I have to admit, I am not such a big fan of Tom Ford Lipshines. I find them a little thick and too balmy. Like with one swipe one third of the product is gone. I like Envy Shines more, they are less thick but still moisturizing. They are also more pigmented I think. At least the one I have.

  12. LOL to have to watch and swatch. I am watching too, hoping they will be available soon.

  13. Hahaha Bella, I am happy to get to know another plum freak ;-) You see I have them too, all! LOL

  14. Sheer glossy, then you should go for Envy Shine, hope you like them!

  15. Hi Pia,
you know if a lipstick is too opaque, just mix it with a little bit of your lipcream or lipbalm and voila, you have a sheer lipstick :-) This way you get more product for your money and you can use it opaque if you want to . I understand though on the go, it is not so easy to have lipbalm and lipstick etc.etc. According to PR Info, they are available in March, so I believe it can be pop up any time soon.

  16. Oh I didn't know that, thanks for the information. Yes I like them both and agree, EL lipsticks became one of the best formula I know of at the moment.

  17. Fuchsia like plum makes all sense but that name, Dominant, I am not so sure about hahaha
    and what about Infamous LOL!
I am hoping I will bounce back. Need some more sleep!

  18. Defiant Coral must have screamed your name "Sunny" :-)
Both of the ones you suggested now makes me curious, have to check them out at the counter next time I am at down town.

  19. They EL ones are already available at the German OS!

And I already ordered one (right after I finished the comment :D) at Sephora.fr - there is a 25%-discount at the moment, so I ordered a new fragrance by Atelier Cologne and EL Charmed aaaand NARS Laguna :D

  20. That is the point, I don't like lipglosses hahaha, that might be why.

Also check out new palettes of By Terry at Sephora.fr. They are much more affordable, I ended up ordering both with 25% off!

  21. Insolent Plum looks amazing on you! I've never tried any Estée Lauder lipsticks but I will definitely have to check them out!

  22. Hi Jess, try them at your own risk because it might be addictive lol.
I also haven't tried them before, now I don't know why I haven't done that before.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I tried the previous range yes. I have not tried the new one to be honest. But I gave up on Estee lipsticks, as I have been trying different ones since I was a teenager till a couple of years ago and they always dried my lips up, also creating patches of colour, especially the dark ones. But maybe that's worth a look at the counter if anything. Oh yes vitamins is the way to go - and hot brandies with honey in the evenings ; )!

  24. Ha ha, yeah, that's just what I need...another line to become obsessed with!:)

  25. No, I can't believe you did not try Color Envy before! :) I know that Estee Lauder is not the coolest brand on the market, but these lipsticks are easiest to wear. I have about 7-10 shades and, except the weird color 120 Desirabe which I received as a mini, all are absolutely consistent in terms of texture and quality. It is not like Chanel Coco Rouge or Guerlain Kiss Kiss, where one is great and another is miserable, you will find no surprises here. I also like that they are less creamy than Dior.

  26. I have't purchased any lipsticks from either of these ranges, but have definitely been tempted! Insolent Plum is gorgeous :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. whyever not? Kitsh and a bit of kink is fashionable these days! ;)

  28. you look gorgeous with a darker lipstick on! I don't recall to have seen you in such shades :)
