Rainy Eyes with Laura Mercier's Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette for Spring 2015, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Spring came! Ok, I must have became a little exciting after feeling the sun rays on my face for a brief moment today. Spring certainly arrived to the Beauty-Blogosphere though. Each day I am seeing more product-reviews from Spring Collections. Reading them makes me remember of how beautiful it is to see the nature wake up again. Pink and white flowers on the trees. Trees are dressed in green. All together they sing a love song for the rain. You know that feeling? Would you like to have it in form of a palette?

Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette

Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette comes in a metal compact. The surface has the effect of having water drops. It looks so pretty and also realistic since the drops are scattered very randomly. Inside the compact there are six eye shadows and two blushes. The concept of Laura Mercier Spring Palette is water colours, but her take-on on this topic is not quiet a cheerful one... Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Palette has foggy pastels for moody spring days of love & rain.

Compact of Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette

The names are foggy, misty and rainy, the shades are rather moody and all of the textures are are not very soft to touch during swatches but they are pigmented and apply nicely on the eyes, the finishes are all matte.

Sunset (Cheek): A light natural rose flush for the cheeks. It shows quiet well on my NC20 skin but if you have a deeper complexion than, say NC30, it may look a little ashy.

Earth (Cheek): A mid-toned terracotta. I use it to contour or as a bronzer to give some "warmth" to the face. Depending on the lip color I combine it to, it also works as a blush for me. Since this shade is deeper, it would show up on wider range of complexions.

Mist: A mid-toned baby blue without much white in it, which is hard to find. It is a lovely shade to apply all over the lid as a light blue wash of color. I also like combining it with Purple Rain or Cloud for a blue smoky eye.

Fog: A very light warm taupe. It is a great color to blend the edges of your makeup but I also like using it as a mid-shade on the center of the lid. Although it is very light, it shows up very well on me.

Storm: A mid-toned greyish green. This one is not a cheerful pastel green, it has some grey to make it moody enough to fit its name.

Wind: A light lavender, my favorite of the bunch, but you know me, I can't resist a take on rabbit-eye. This one doesn't even give me that, it is so lovely applied all over the lid and the absense of white base here again makes it unique for me.

Purple Rain: Not quiet a purple as the name suggests but it is a mid-toned to deep periwinkle. I use to on the outer corner to define the soft look I can get with the other shades but it can also be applied all over for a "rainy eye".

Cloud: is a deep slate-grey, great to smoke everything out without making it too dark or too defined.

Swatches: Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette

Here is one of the many possible looks. I have used:

Wind on inner corner to the one third of the lid.
Fog on the middle, to show even the lightest shade shows up quiet well
Purple Rain on the outer third of the lid as a soft definition
Cloud on the crease for smoking it out without loosing the soft effect.

I am also wearing:

Sunset on the apples of the cheeks for a fresh look.
Earth as a contouring blush and near to the hair line to warm up the face.

The lipstick I am wearing in this look is MAC Light English Red (lustre) from Prabal Gurung Collection. And yes you are right, it has nothing to do with red ;-) If you like how my complexion looks here, with a touch of color and a little healthy glow, stay tuned for one of the upcoming post on Estee Lauder EE Creme, which I am using under my foundation (YSL Ink Fusion) in this photo.

FOTD with Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette
Moody pastels, rainy eyes and a stormy gaze...

Here is a last look to Laura Mercier's Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette. In Germany it will be released in February. Although I don't have information about it, I suspect in the states it is going to be available even before that.

Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Eye & Cheek Palette for Spring 2015

Final thoughts: Can the next trend after smokey eyes be "rainy eyes"? We will wait and see. I like the colour story and the execution of the palette. The shades are pastels but they don't have the heavy white base to them. Together they form a soft but yet defined look. The textures are not very soft to touch but I like the way they don't blend too much into each other, they also don't become muddy. Thumbs up from me if you are in the market for something other than cheerful pastels for spring.

So you like soft spring looks? What is your favorite look for spring?

  1. Hey Sara, I like how the compact looks and how the shades look on you, but I think this is another spring palette that will pull ashy on me indeed! I am really hoping to see something that won't this spring: a girl can dream, right? ;)

    1. Hi Sunny, this one doesn't have a white base so maybe it would work on you too. I know what you mean about ashiness, some shades pull ashy on me as well. I have to admit that my favorite season is also not Spring, but the shades I have seen for the upcoming collections are very pretty!

  2. Man, you are quick. I haven't even seen any ads for Laura Mercier spring.

I don't do pastels because they don't work with my skin tone, but I like that these are kind of moody and subdued instead of the typical candy colours. Hope it comes out here soon so I can take a look in person.

    1. LOL, Liz yes I am trying to be fast ;-) Exactly like you said, no happy candy colors, a new take on Spring, I like it. Check it out and let me know how you find them. I think North America will get them much before, maybe even in the next weeks.

  3. While this palette (thankfully) isn't for me, you're really making it work :)
I have to say the exterior is fascinating! I almost thought you'd left it outside in the rain by accident.

    1. Exterior is so pretty, a little like MAC Alluring Aquatics but this one is even more realistic since it is just metal and the drops on it. You feel like your hands may get wet if you touch it ;-)

  4. Yay! It's been a very long time since I've seen a palette in which I liked all the colours! Might actually pick this one up. :)

    1. Yay! I am glad you liked it. I like the shades too, it is also nice to see that they are not repeating and can be combined. Let me know how you like it after trying out.

  5. Funny, I was just wishing someone would come out with a foggy/ misty Spring palette and... voilĂ ! I haven't seen this one here yet, but I think I'll be picking it up when I do. My only concern is that a couple of the shades look close to ones I already have, but they're also ones I like, so it's not the end of the world. Love the look you did, as always!

    1. Hi Kate,
on you they will look even better since you are lighter than me. It is a great idea since everywhere is full of white based candy pastels. Do you mean shades you have from Laura Mercier or from other brands?

  8. What an interesting palette of pastels! Pastels and my skin tone clash but I share Liz's sentiments. These are more subdued and perhaps might work :-) Thanks for the review!

    1. Hi Lily,
I can't believe that there are shades which you can't wear. All I have seen is that you can pull off every look. These are subdued and moody, love them :-)

  9. Interesting colours for a spring range, make a nice change, nice that they have gone with matte as well instead of the normal shimmer for spring. I really like the look you have created :)

    1. Hi Clare,
yes what you say is spot on, I was so tired of shimmery pastels, now we have a bunch of mattes without too much white base. This was a nice surprise to see something different. You are fairer than me, on you they will look even better.

  10. I saw the promo image but this is the first time seeing swatches! Thanks for this, Sara! Now I know this is one of the palettes that looks great in the pan but the colors probably won't work on my skin at all. Very nice combo of pastels, though. :)

    1. Hi Jaa,
these are not the classical pastels, you might still check it out. It might be your chance to make pastels work. On me pastels don't work all that good but this one looks nice.

  12. Beautiful colours, though I am afraid that it would happen like with most of my blues: left unloved.

Really liking the packaging, as it reminds me of MAC's Alluring Acquatic's collection but more realistic

    1. Yes, it is like Alluring Aquatics but since it is over plain metal, looks more realistic. I also like the way the name of the shades and the color story matches with the design, very pretty.

  13. Hi Sara, I like how you've made the palette work for you! But i dont know why, i'm having a strong aversion to this one. I thought perhaps the swatches will prove me wrong, but that's sadly not the case. I need to see a head doctor i think....

  14. I think I will pick this one up. Yes, so nice to have all matte shades. I have enough shimmer and illuminator to light my way to the moon! Lol

  15. I adore Laura Mercier palettes! I will definitely be on the lookout for this. I am always surprised with Laura's blue shadows- they are very wearable. LM shadows are so easy to pull off, and easy to put on, too. I have yet to encounter a bad one, and I have collected quite a few of her palettes. They are my weakness(ok, that and Chanel Vernis!) Such a pretty FOTD with this. love it!
