Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris & Rouge Allure Velvet #50 La Romanesque for Rêverie Parisienne Spring 2015 Collection, Review, Swatch & FOTD

December is that time of the year that we hope for a white X-mas while reading Spring, even Summer fashion news. Some companies went ahead and released their Spring make-up collections in the States while in Europe we have to wait until the end of festive season for them to hit the counters. One way or the other a new Chanel Quad is always exciting, especially after they are reformulated this year and became one of my favorite formulas in the market.

Today I would like to share my thoughts on Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris with you, together with a sneak peek of Rouge Allure Velvet #50 La Romanesque

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris Eyeshadow Palette

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris is a feminine palette of pinks combined with a classical smokey eye shades of white and dark anthracite. None of the shades are very shimmery nor sheer, they are rather pigmented and satin with a beautiful complex sheen. I have been a big fan of new Les 4 Ombres formula since the quality is consistent across the range (with an exception of Tisse  Cambon, the only quad I couldn't bring myself to review). Although a consistent quality sounds like something a high-end brand should provide, we know that it is not always the case (I am looking at you Dior's new quints!). Oh and yes this is why you need to read more blogs! *grins and nods*.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris Eyeshadow Palette

Here is a closer look to the shades in Tisse Paris:

Top left: A very light cool pink with satin finish. This shade is the harder to show up on my skin tone, since it almost blends with it and gives a brightened look but not much color. I like using it to blend over the crease or brighten the brow bone.

Top right: A very light neutral white with satin finish. It can be worn on the inner corner or applied on the lid. It is also great to layer on top of other shades to make them more pastel and lighter. Chanel's formula layers beautifully.

Bottom left: A mid-toned neutral pink with mauve undertones and satin finish. Lovely shade to apply all over the lid for a feminine look or just to use it as a wash of color over the other shades.

Bottom right: A stunning deep gunmetal with multi colored subtle shimmer. The complexity of this shade is so beautiful. I apply it on the crease to define the look but it can be used everywhere, from a dark smokey eye to a wash of color.

Below is a classical replacement of #238 Tisse Paris. I have applied the white on the inner corner, the light pink on the inner half, darker pink on the outer half. I then used the gunmetal to define the crease and the outer corner. I have also lined my eyes with the the liner from the collection, Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner #912 in Ardoise. The eye liner is very creamy and pigmented.

I have picked up only one of the lipsticks from the collection (for the time being), Rouge Allure Velvet #50 La Romanesque, which seemed to be the most unique to my stash. I may compare it with other shades if you have wishes, please leave a comment below. La Romanesque is a berry pink with a touch of violet but on me it looks more pink than violet, no matter what I do. I like Chanel's Rouge Allure Velvet formula, they are not that matte as we see from MAC or Tom Ford but it balances the velvety texture while being hydrated. All in all I like Tom Ford's matte formula more than these because of the longevity though.

Here is me wearing Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris and Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner #912 in Ardoise on the eyes, Chanel Joues Contraste #160 Innocence on the cheeks and Rouge Allure Velvet #50 La Romanesque on the lips.

FOTD with Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris & Rouge Allure Velvet #50 La Romanesque

Now here is what I feel about Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris on me, which is rather a personal thing. I don't like this particular look with white and pinks. I like the pink looks when they have some purple touch to them, such as YSL's Love Palette. The white base or the white in this palette acts somehow against my skin tone. I can see this working on many skin tones though, especially if you like pastels. I have tried the other palette from the collection, Tisse Fantaisie and from the two my choice is clearly that Fantaisie.

Final thoughts: Chanel Les 4 Ombres #238 Tisse Paris is a great smoky palette with a touch of pink. It is versatile since white and black can be used for a variety of look and the addition of pink makes it fun. The textures are au par with the new Chanel formulation from heaven, the sheen is very complex and lovely. On me though, I am not that much excited about the above look, maybe it is too nice and too feminine for my taste? I can't tell, but I am sure many will love it.

Chanel Spring is now available in the states, the collection will be available in Europe in January.

Do you like wearing pastel pinks or a smokey eye with a pink touch?

  1. Very nice combination of colours, though I wouldn't be able to pull off that light pink!

    1. Hi,
I have made mixed the light pink with some white so it became extra cool. I think if you just use the light pink, you might pull it off.

  2. hi sara! i purchased 4 pieces from the spring collection last week. there's a very good artist at my local counter and, she picked out all the colors when i had my makeover. she chose tisse fantaisie, the camelia blush, ardoise pencil. and etourde lip color. i was really surprised she didn't use the other quad as i thought the blush and lip color all came from the pink group of the collection. i really only saw black around my eye and maybe a touch of the coral in the crease. i've had problems before with these quads showing up on me and, i'm quite pale. any suggestions in usage of the quads. although, i heard that some of the formulas are different. i will tell you i love etourdie rouge coco shine. it lasted longer, felt more hydrating, very creamy. this, to me, is a must for an "office friendly" look. i plan to go back and i think i should have the coral blush in my stash and look at the coral rouge coco shine offering. i also heard the glossimers this time have a more superb formula. i would like to try on the mattes but, i'm more comfortable with glossy, shiny lips. i was going to exchange the fantaisie quad for the paris one but, i really need to try it on first. i think it looks beautiful on you. sometimes, i also get trapped in the ad pictures.....i want everything that the model's wearing....i think she's wearing the color you reviewed. xo.

    1. Hi Wendy,
I haven't tried Etourde Lipcolor but your other picks are all very good! I love Tisse Fantaisie, I think it goes good with all kinds of makeup, coral, pink, you name it. Tisse Paris on the other hand need some coolness on the rest of the face, I will definitely check Etourdie once the collection is out here. I am not big on glosses, I always buy them and end up not using, so I am surely passing on anything which is glossy lol.

  3. Thank you for your great review. You've achieved a beautiful result on your eyes. May I ask what brushes you use to apply Chanel quads? Vielen Dank. Anne

    1. Hi Anne,
I am using Hakuhodo B5507BkSL (=G5507BkSL) to layer the eye shadows and blending with a fluffy brush, any of them would do.

  5. Hi Sara, i actually think this color combination looks spectacular on you! But you're right, this palette is not very creative, it kinda reminds me of Tisse Cambon just cooler-toned, and black instead of purple.

    1. Oh really? LOL, maybe I have to get used to baby pinks ;-)
You are right, it is close to Tisse Cambon, also to last year's Spring Palettes and Dup with lots of pink!

  6. I'm interested in the Yeux Stylo in the gray color. You say it is creamy. Was that reformulated too? And would you call it a slate or blue or warm gray?

    1. I would call it a very dark grey, almost a black. I will try to review it as soon as possible and post some comparisons as well.

  9. Also mir gefällt der Look an dir ;)

I will try to add L´Exubérant in the post. Just a little bit patience please since the holidays are coming and I have a pile of products to post about.

  11. Sara, it looks good on you and very spring alike and fresh. Though, i understand what you mean by colors being a bit off for your complexion. Your green eyes are warm, this may be the reason, more than your skin tone. My skin only slightly lighter than yours, but my green eyes are blue-grey cool and white/pink eyeshadow are my best match. Btw, thanks a lot for what you are doing, your blog is absolutely the best blog of 2014, i am subsribed to more than 300 blogs. It is a lot of work i guess, and you seem to be ambitious person, so i think you need to know that you have done amazing work this year! And if brands new how much staff i bought because of your reviews, omg:) I only hope that you dont get burned out from so may reviews because i would miss them and you a lot. Merry Christmas!

    1. Hi,
you are right about the eyes pulling warmer. My shade of green is warmer so everything which is too cool clashes a little. This is also why I can't wear silvers so well. If you have cooler eye color, pinks must be looking awesome on you!
On a side note when I read your comment, I was like, OMG, that is so sweet. At the same time I thought, she is commenting like my inner self, in the second part about burn-out. I am really trying to be reasonable in the amount of work I put in the blog and try to take time off but once I get concentrated, I end up spending hours, staying up late and it doesn't help having a full time job, even two actually other than the blog. This year I feel now I really need some time off blogging although I don't want to admit. Thanks so much though for your encouraging words, they mean a lot to me.

  12. Sara, absolutely gorgeous lip colour on you. Although I also was hoping it would be more violet. Could it be similar to Guerlain KissKiss Excessive Rose and Chanel Rouge Allure Exaltee? Thank you.

    1. Thank you very much!
Unfortunately I don't have Excessive Rose nor Exaltee to compare but from the online swatches, Exaltee should really be close. This one is less glossy though as the finish is Velvet.

You have to try Tom Ford! But be aware, you might fall the rabbit hole ;-)

  14. I love the combo! Especially when there are pink and gunmetal in the same quad! I'd have preferred something else besides white, though, maybe soft brown or mauve or light purple but that would take away the "spring" theme, wouldn't it?

The lipstick, though. OMG SO VELVETY!

    1. Hi Jaa,
I can't agree more, that white is so out of place. I don't think Spring theme needs a white lol. Both of the palettes have that strange white in them. I wished it would be a champagne or a softer shade.
Lipstick is gorgeous! That would look very good on you!
