Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Lipstick, Swatches, Review & FOTD

How is your week going? It is almost Friyay! As I have previously written, we are still trying to solve the water problem. Tomorrow, if we are very lucky we will have a destroyed kitchen but water will be back. Then we have to try getting out kitchen back, that is if the water problem is solved. To get my mind off things, I am playing with make-up. It is too bad that we have to move out of the house so I can't be close to my stash *cries*.

Guerlain recently released a new make-up line after their best selling perfume La Petite Robe Noire with nail polishes and lipsticks. I have shared swatches and my thoughts on the nail polishes in this post. Today I would like to talk about the lipsticks. The full name is Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Deliciously Shiny Lip Colour and there is a reason for the word "delicious"...

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Deliciously Shiny Lip Colour

Guerlain's new lipstick line La Petite Robe Noire is composed of four star shades (#001 My First Lipstick, #002 Pink Tie, #003 Red Heels, #007 Black Perfecto), eleven Easy Chic Shades and ten Trendy Pop Shades, making it a huge collection of 25 shades in total. Some of the shades are marked as being exclusive to Asia though. The lipsticks are said to be buildable, so you can get an effect from very sheer to more opaque. To my experience some of the shades are sheerer than the others and it is hard to get these really show up but most of the shades show up well after 3-4 swipes if this is what you are going for.

Why deliciously shiny? Because not only La Petite Robe Noire Lipsticks are scented after the name sake fragrance but they also have a flavour. I don't have many lipsticks with a taste but I always remember the song "I kissed a girl and I like it" because she says "the taste of her cherry chapstick". I am sure the people who are kissing you like to have a bit of desert feeling to your lips but I am not sure if I like to put the lipstick on which tastes sweet when I am eating a lunch, what do you think?

A little bit about the packaging, it is casual like the lipstick itself. I like the reverse heart shape which is the signature of Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire Fragrance caps. The plexiglass cap is very safe since it goes all the way to the bottom, so there is no chance that it is opening up in your purse. On the other hand thinking about the fact that Rouge Automatique is being discontinued makes me really sad, then I look at the packaging again and I sigh. One more thing about this, which can probably be described a "blogger only" problem is that, once you take the cap off, there is no way of understanding which shade it was because the number and the name is only written on the cap and not on the lipstick. The chances that you will open up more caps than one is very slim though.

Now off to shades, I have four of the star shades for you, those are also matching to the nail polishes. I also got to try two of the Trendy Pop shades, called #041 Sun-Twin Set and #020 Poppy Cap. Most of the shades I try are sheer, some of them have glitter in them, some of them can be build up more than the others so each shade is different in a way. I also found some of the shades being more fragranced than the others. They all apply nicely, they have a shiny finish. The consistency reminds me of lip balms, less oily and a little thicker if you know what I mean. These also remind me of Tom Ford's Lip Color Shines in terms of thickness and how they feel although Lip Color Shines are a little thicker.

Since the shades are transparent, the lip swatches depends more on your lip color. I still included some for your reference.

#001 My First Lipstick: Like the nail polish, this shade is barely there with some glitter and an almost transparent base. As the name suggest, it is thought to be for younger girls who are just starting up with make-up. I can see myself using this one over another lipstick as a topper.

#002 Pink Tie: It is a fuchsia which is very easy to wear due to transparency. This shade is my favorite from the bunch since I love the violet hue in that and it doesn't have glitter. It also leaves a nice stain behind so lasts on me really well.

#003 Red Heels: A very easy to wear orangy red, more of a casual coral lippie. The glitter in Red Heels is very subtle and little.

#007 Black Perfecto: In the tube it appears almost black but on the lips it is a barely there cool shade which makes the teeth look nice and white but doesn't stand out on its own. This one also has glitter like My First Lipstick. I like topping this one up on Pink Tie and cool it even further.

#001 My First Lipstick, #002 Pink Tie, #003 Red Heels, #007 Black Perfecto

#020 Poppy Cap is my other favorite of the collection since this one really build up well. It has glitter but it gives a dimension to this particular pink coraly shade.

#041 Sun-Twin-Set is a very easy going coral. I wonder why it is listed as pop shade because it is rather a casual color with lots of transparency. It doesn't have glitter, looks more like a lip gloss on the lips, nice and easy.

I tried to swatch all the shades I found during the event, thinking it can be useful for some who will order it sight-unseen. Approach with caution though, see how purple 007 appears and how sheer it is on the lips? These swatches are just to see the undertones but due to sheerness, they look so different once worn.

Oh and I am so eyeing 070, you can see Melanie wearing it here, want!

Here goes two FOTDs for you, in both of these I am wearing Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-28 Kinshasuna (reviewed here) because I am so obsessed! The first FOTD is with my favorite, #002 Pink Tie and the second one is the stain of Pink Tie topped with #007 Black Perfecto

Here is one more to the Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Fragrance (reviewed here) and matching lipsticks. I personally like the texture but I don't love the fragranced nor flavored lipsticks. That said I tried to go full on La Petite Robe Noire and after spraying myself with the fragrance, I wore the lipstick and the nail polish. That way may I say I enjoyed it? If you like the fragrance, you might enjoy these more.

Final thoughts:  Guerlain's new line of casual but (mostly) buildable lipsticks are an interesting take on La Petite Robe Noire theme, in terms of floral fruity scent and flavor. The line is geared towards the younger audience but I am sure everyone finds a shade they will like. The question is, how many like their lipstick to be flavored and scented? We will see the answer in the years to follow.

Availability/Price: Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Collection is now available at the counters and online. Lipsticks are priced around 29,90€.

What do you think about flavored lipsticks?

  1. The lipsticks look great on you.

I prefer my lipsticks unflavoured and fragrance free. I can cope with a little fragrance but I can't stand it if they're also flavoured. I won't be interested in this line, at all.

Btw, I hope you can move back into your apartment soon.

  2. Pink tie is so pretty. But I am not at all into fragranced and flavored lipsticks. I have just a few Diors much as I love them because they are fragranced.

  5. I love the look of these: the formula, the colours, the packaging. Wow!

  6. It's interesting to see how many major players in the cosmetic biz are launching lipsticks associated with shine, lacquer, vinyl, etc. I guess that is all in keeping with the spotlight trend. Pops of light (shine) on the high pints of our face and on our lips while the face remains relatively matte. Cosmetic trends are interesting, no? Guerlain's collection has yet to land on the counters here, but when it does, unless it is surrounded by bad reviews, it should do very well. I think most of us gravitate towards lighter, brighter, easy going lip products come summer and so Guerlain's timing is excellent.

  7. They look like a very nice texture and finish for Springtime! Definitely a lot more sheer on the lips, but I kind of like the idea of a super sheer black lipstick :)

  8. I don't care much for scented or flavored make-up, but the colors of these lipsticks do look super pretty! Definitely lots of Melissa shades in the collection.

  9. Oh no..... Rouge Automatiques are creamy but not that sheer. These seem way too sheer.... more like the KissKiss? I'm always mixing up my lipstick caps, how??-I wonder too! So i'm sure I'll get these mixed up right away. :(
