Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼) for Fall 2015, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Happy Sunday everyone! Today the weather is beautiful, it is not too warm and sunny, also not so humid thanks to yesterday's wind. I was dreaming of enjoying a cup of coffee at the balcony. I then found out there is only one coffee capsule left. I was being extra careful while placing it in the machine because sometimes if I don't place it properly, it mixes with too much water and doesn't taste good enough to drink. After all the effort I put in there, I was thinking something else (about all the job changes and stuff) while reaching for the sugar cup, just to find out that it was empty. I sighed and opened another cupboard to get some sugar to fill in. Guess what I have done to the last coffee capsule, I flavored it with salt by mistake! AGGHH! *punches herself while drinking salty coffee*. Now I am trying to convince myself that there is chocolate with salt so why not coffee right? Right?

Alright back to today's beauty. After going crazy over the burgundy quad from Suqqu Fall 2015 Collection (reviewed here) which is going to be permanent in line, today I would like to show you the limited edition quad from the same collection. Please welcome Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi.

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

Almost mandatory, I start with trying to decipher the name. Yuuaoi consists of two words, Yuu (夕 ) which means evening and Aoi (蒼) which represents blue, so it is "Evening Blue". Funny thing is I found out that there is also an Japanese actress with the same name.

So as the name suggests Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi is a blue quad but luckily doesn't consist of tones of blue. I am really so over the ton-sur-ton quads, to the degree that I can't even stand the purple ones. And there is something to get excited about in a Suqqu Blue because blue pigment is very hard to get right and only the masters can achieve this mission impossible. And yes, Suqqu is one of the few who can get the blue eye shadows right. They are not dry, not too powdery, no fall out and intensity is full on.

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi is much more densely pigmented than the burgundy quad so if you have doubts the other one wouldn't show up on you, I recommend you check Yuuaoi out. Especially is you have blue or brown eyes, I suspect it will look even more beautiful on you than it does on me. The color combination of Yuuaoi reminds me a bit of YSL Fétiche Eyeshadow Quint (reviewed here) from last fall. This one is a little softer (doesn't have the dense blackened blues) and a little cooler due to the pink shade, and needless to say, I much prefer Suqqu eyeshadow quality to YSL's self over blending powder.

Here are the shades in the palette:

Top left (powder): A light natural pink with shimmery finish. This is a great shade to apply all over the lid but also to mix with the bronze shade to cool it down if you find it very warm.

Top right (powder): A mid-toned bronze with golden shimmer. It is a stunning warm bronze shade, especially beautiful to bring out the blue eyes and to set a contrast to the blue shadow in the quad. It is a very warm shade though so if you have problem making warm colors work, I recommend you mixing this one with the pink and tine the coolness.

Bottom left (powder): A stunning deep blue with golden and multi colored low key shimmer. The golden spray with the brand name on this shade goes away after the first use but I am trying to keep it by restricting my use to the side of this pan, let't see how long I will be able to hold on to that. I like this shade as liner, on the crease or all over. It is very versatile.

Bottom right (cream): A light ivory base in cream consistency and satin finish. I like it best when I apply it with fingers all over the lid, a little above the crease. It makes the colors more vivid and its pearly finish intensifies the multi dimensional facet of all the shades.

I wore the palette in two different ways which I would like to share with you. The first one is my go-to application when I first see a palette. That is, I applied the cream base and after that the pink on the inner corner, the bronze on the outer corner. I defined the crease and outer corner of my lower lash line with the blue shade.

Look 1, blue on crease: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

Here is the full look, I am wearing Tom Ford Cheek Color Ravish on the cheeks, Suqqu Creamy Glow Moist Lipstick #13 Akenebara on the lips.

FOTD 1, blue on crease: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

Here is another look. I am usually not good with using the vivid shade as a liner on my lid because the liners make my outer eye scratch and in less than an hour I find myself removing the tail. Nevertheless I tried here, applied the pink shade all over the lid over the cream base, defined the crease with the bronze and applied the blue all along the lash line a little on the outer corner of the lower lash line.

Look 2, blue as liner: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

Here is the look in context. I am wearing Suqqu Cheek & Face Color Ex-01 on the cheeks and Suqqu Creamy Glow Moist Lipstick #13 Akenebara on the lips, this time more like a stain. I am in love with this lipstick although I smashed a good portion of it during photo session, still I think it will be one of my go-to shades for the upcoming season. I will review it together with the Cheek & Face Color soon.

FOTD 2, blue as liner: Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi (夕 蒼)

In case you were wondering how Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi compares to the recent Eye Color trios, here are a few comparisons for you. Bear in mind, Suqqu trios, called Eye Color, they are usually more shimmery than Blend Colors. The blue shade in Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi is close in terms of finish to these. You can see that both the bronze and the blue in Eye Color Ex-02 Yosaizora (reviewed here) are cooler. The blue shade in Eye Color 03 Aoruri (reviewed here) is close but the shimmer in Yuuaoi is scattered and the particles are a little bigger.

Final thoughts: With the stunning combination of bronze and blue, Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow Ex-26 Yuuaoi has a more intense color pay off than the burgundy quad 20 Kaoribara and will especially flatter blue and brown eyes. The dimension in the blue eye shadow is stunning so this is a must have for blue lovers, as not many brands can get the blue shadow right.

Availability: Suqqu Fall Collection will be released on the 14th of August at Selfridges and 28th of August at other stores in UK. Suqqu is available in-store at Fenwick of Bond Street, Harrods, Selfridges and Selfridges online.

How do you like bronze and blue color combination?

  1. Oh Goood so sorry to hear your coffee story! I'd pretty much DIE without my morning coffee! Which coffee machine do you use by the way? I have a Nescafe Dolce Gusto and I don't seem to have any problems with misplacing the capsules and ending up with too much water in my coffee (I do have to turn it off at the right time otherwise water does keep coming out).

Soooo WOW this quad! In all honesty I can't say I don't already own similar shades, but I love the ways you wear it! The shimmer in there is SUPER pretty :)
