Glowing Tan/Orange Lips: Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze and Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe, Review, Swatch & FOTD

I hope everyone is having a smooth start in the week. This week is a full 5 days week in Germany between all kinds of long weekends so after we "survive" this there are great times ahead. I am also traveling at the end of May again. This year has been a year of travel so far but I can't complain.

Although I like presenting full collection looks with at least 2-3 pieces, sometimes I receive single pieces in the mail. I try to combine and match them. Today's post is about glowing tan and orange lips. I kept the eye make-up simple and muted with Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe. I was told to wear more orange on my lips after my MAC Wash & Dry post so this is what I did with Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze today. I will review the bronzer and the highlighter I used here in a separate post.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze and Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe

Laura Mercier recently released their Summer Collection in the States. It didn't arrive to our shores yet but I had the opportunity to check it out during my travels. Bronzer is really gorgeous and there are nice Eye Glaces which come with the collection. I was very tempted with one of the Eye Glaces but wanted to wait until the collection launches in Germany since I couldn't decide which one. If you remember, I have reviewed Black Diamond which came with the Holiday Collection here

I like Laura Mercier's recently released liquid lipstick formula Paint Wash. You can find Mauve and Rosewood previously reviewed here. The limited edition Paint Wash which comes with Summer Collection is a vivid orange red with golden sheen, called Sunblaze. I think it is gorgeous if you put some tan on or fake it as you like but definitely a nice summer color.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze and Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe

Bobbi Brown extended their Long-Wear Cream Eyeshadow Stick range lately. Taupe is one of the new colors which is a matte eye shadow stick. I have deeper shades with matte finishes but Taupe must be the first all over swipe and go matte stick I have. First I thought it would be too warm on me because many similar browns are. This one though is rather natural to warm with a shading/sculpting kind of "mimicking shadows" shade. I really like it. I see that it would work as a contour too. Do you occasionally use bronzers on your eye lids for an effortless "bronzy" look? If yes, you should definitely give Bobbi Brown Taupe a go, because it gives the same effect but looks more even and much better.

In-action: Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe

Here is the finished look with Smashbox Bronzer in Deep Matte and Smashbox Fusion Softlights in Baked Starblush as highlighter. Reviews of these two will be up soon. I am so enjoying them at the moment. And of course this had to be combined with orange on the lips with Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze. On the photo you can see it full on but sometimes I just apply it as a stain and it looks lovely that way too. You see that Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe goes great with bronzy looks, giving just enough definition to the eyes. I didn't use any blush for this look, which is hard for me to pull off but I think it worked in a way, what do you think?

FOTD with Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze & Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe

Final thoughts: If you are searching for a nice orange/red on your lips for this summer, I can definitely recommend Laura Mercier Paint Wash in Sunblaze. It is lovely once applied full on as well as as a stain. Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe gives the right amount of definition to your eyes for your bronzy looks. It is matte so you can highlight the rest of the face and it looks all natural.  Bobbi Brown Taupe stays put all day without fading.

What is your favorite orange lip shade? Do you wear bronzer without blush?

  1. Loving the Bobbi Brown Cream Shadow Stick. Pretty much all the cream/stick shadows I own are satins or shimmers so it would be awesome to have a matte colour x

  2. Oh! Taupe looks great on you Sara. And yes to orange lips again. It's gorgeous. Your complexion here looks so bright, no blush is needed at all. I sometimes do wear bronzer without blush. However, on days I look tired, I must use a pop of color on the cheeks :-)

  3. Hi Lily,
yes Taupe is a great everyday matte just to pop on your eye lid for a bit of definition. I look a bit sick if I don't wear blush but since there is a good amount of bronzer, face comes back to life again. I know what you mean about looking tired, then I also need a pop of color on the cheeks.

  4. All my eye shadow sticks are also mostly shimmery and sometimes satin. Taupe is not plain matte it has tiny bit of shimmer, which is a good thing in my book, it doesn't look flat.

  5. Bobbi Brown has a nice matte stick in nude beach, as part of the sun kissed collection. Really interesting color. I can't use their bronzer unfortunately, otherwise would buy a collection set. Maybe she will launch it separately one day. Taupe is perfect summer color, suits you well! It was too dark and warm on me, *sigh* :)

  8. Hi Jane,
hmm Nude Beach... I have to check that one out as well. Is it part of a collection set?
I can imagine Taupe being too warm for fair ladies like you. It is almost on the border of being too warm for me as well, but works fine if I warm up my complexion with serious bronzer ;-)

  9. I think Sunblaze looks amazing on you...I'm finding myself more and more drawn to orange-y, coral-y reds. I like Guerlain Kiss Kiss 325, which is bright but not "in your face."

  14. Matte stick is great for everyday. What are you eyeing from Laura Mercier Summer?

  15. Hold on, no blush!?!?? How are your cheeks still so luminous?!?? See me eat my heart out now *eat eat eat* It's so interesting when eyeshadows just mould and give you that dimensional look on their own without having to blend another shade isn't it? I never thought matte ones could do that too! This combination of colors really do look great on you!

  17. I am taking my words about BB Goldstone back :) I bought it anyway and found it really beautiful. Similar to Burberry Nude in color and sparkle is not too strong when applied on the eyelid.
