Guest Post Series: Faces of Spring, Ingrid from "Ingrid Hughes"

Hello you gorgeous girls! I'm Ingrid Hughes, a British expat living in Spain and I'm so honoured to have been given the chance to show you my Spring favourites.

I have have a slightly unhealthy obsession with highend beauty and makeup and I first started my Youtube channel over a year ago. I decided to start a blog because I felt there were many things I could show and explain better, plus I love taking photos!!  On my blog, Ingrid Hughes, I like to show makeup, beauty, fashion and style posts, and a bit of travel because I love visiting new places!

Today I thought I'd show you a look using some of my latest favourites that can be purchased in Spain, just to make things a little more interesting. So let's take a look at what I've been loving...

I'll start with base makeup and my all time favourite is the Makeup Forever HD foundation. I thought it would be a gimmick but it does really perform well on camera and it's very long-lasting and good for oily/combination skin. It's medium to full coverage and they offer a wide selection of shades so it's really worth looking into. Makeup Forever is expanding and will soon be sold widely in the UK so hopefully it'll be easier to get a hold of in the whole of Europe.

My concealer of choice is the NARS Creamy Radiant concealer and although I actually prefer the Charlotte Tilbury Retoucher I have to say that the NARS one has more of a multipurpose use (and it's sold in Spain, so I am not cheating!). I find it sits better on my under-eye area if I use my fingertips and set it with powder.

As for my brows, my all time favourite for natural looking eyebrows is the Benefit Gimme Brow, a clever little brush which will fill in your brows but still look very real!

Now isn't this palette a thing of beauty? This is the Marc Jacobs "The Tease" Style Icon 7 Plush Shadow Palette and it's a very recent purchase of mine which I just HAD to show you. This is a gorgeous combination of shadows which are perfect for green-eyed girls like Sara and I!

I've used the third shade to highlight the inner third, the fourth and fifth shades to blend the shadows, the sixth to add a pop of colour and the first one to darken the outer third of the eye. They blend easily and are shiny but not too shimmery.

I've decided to line my eyes because pink eyeshadows too close to the eye can look a bit ill so I've used the Marc Jacobs Magic Marc'er. It's a great felt tip eyeliner which is easy to use, ultra black and has a nice sharp tip. I'm not the best at eyeliner but this one makes the job easier and it's long lasting.

One mustn't forget mascara and Benefit has recently released a really good mascara called the Roller Lash mascara. This is another product I thought would be promising too much but it really does curl the lashes and separate them really nicely. Well done Benefit!

NARS does powders really well and my bronzer and blush for today's look will be the very famous Laguna bronzer and Deep Throat Blush. I'm a very pale girl and this bronzer is very nice on my skin without looking too orange.
As for the blush, it's a really beautiful coral with a hint of golden sheen which pairs really nicely with purple eyeshadows. It's very smooth and glowy on the skin and I really think it should be more popular than it is.

Finally I've chosen to go for a pinky nude lipstick from the very popular MAC Cosmetics. It's one of the first stands I went to in Spain and although I don't purchase as much as I used to they do offer a wide variety of colours and finishes. This lipstick is Hue, a glaze lipstick which works well on light skin tones and I think balances the look.

Now that the sun is out and the flowers are in full bloom I have really been enjoying soft and flirty looks such as this one, favouring light pinks, corals and soft hues which remind me of the colours of spring.

I really hope you have enjoyed this look and my Spring favourites, Sara is one of my all-time favourite bloggers and I'm so thankful of this opportunity! I hope she's having a great time and getting her well-deserved rest!

Which are your favourite shades for Spring?

  1. If only I could wear pink eye shadows as well as you do :-) Makeup aside, I love your hair!

  2. Thank you so much!! I used to hate my hair when I was a teenager, I just wanted it to be straight! Now I know how to handle it, lol!
If pink eyeshadows make you eyes look sore you can try lining the eye in order to separate from the eye if you know what I mean. It is a hard shade to pull off though and won't suit everyone!

  3. What a beautiful purple eyeshadow. What I like about it that it has dark and light shadows in it. Sometimes a purple shadow can be a bit dark and more autumn like. This one has a more spring vibe, especially in the look you made with it.

  4. Very pretty Spring look. I long to try the Marc Jacobs palettes but they aren't available in the UK and I can't stomach the import duties from US. One day I will give in ... Susan, London

  5. Pretty! That soft purple looks nice on you. I tend to go for slightly darker purples, but for spring I guess this is more the way to go :-)

  6. Thank you!! I originally bought The Starlet eyeshadow palette which has a mix of different shades but how could I resist a purple and pink eyeshadow palette? It's true that you can create a spring look with this palette which is what I was trying to do, I'm very happy you liked it!!

  7. Hey Ingrid, what a beautiful spring-appropriate look! You've got lots of lovely picks there! I especially love the eyeshadows on you: they just work so well with your eye color!

  8. Thank you so much!! I was so excited when Marc Jacobs was released in Sephora Spain last year! We may be getting Kat von D this year too! It's such a shame it isn't widely available in the UK. At least Makeup Forever is being released more widely and hopefully more brands will be expanding to the British market.
Now at least you can order from Sephora US and if you spend more than 75 pounds you don't have to pay shipping or any duties right? I have to give it a go sometime!

  9. Oh, I love the eye makeup! It got my Master Card trembling, but the Visa is comforting it saying "She can't get Marc Jacobs here anyways." Why is everybody so on about Orgasm when Deep Throat is such a lovely shade? I haven't tried them, but I've had a quick swatch, and it was hard to let that palette pass me by (Though there's a lot of comfort to be found in Benefit's Cheeky Sweet Spot palette ;)

  10. Hi Susan,
have you checked Sephora.fr? They have high shipping cost but very frequent 20% discount so you can compensate it. Or if you need anything from the brand, just let me know. I am less than 200 km away from French border and I travel there regularly. I can pick you up anything you want.

  11. Thank you so much!! I also usually have dark purples but I experimented with this palette to achieve a spring look. You could give lighter purples a try! If you do please tell me how you get on! xxxx

  12. The Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot was a great deal, I have it too! I was lucky to order it from England because it wasn't released in Spain crazily enough! I think NARS blushes are better though, they are more long-lasting. (Tell your wallet I'm not intentionally trying to enable you haha!)
I hope Marc Jacobs is released in more countries because they have some nice things and the style is lovely!

  18. Love that pale purple eye look. I've been looking at the MJ palettes but have yet to take the plunge.

  19. If you get the chance swatch them because the two palettes I have got are gorgeous! The Starlette is the bestie you want a variety of colors and they all perform really well. The Tease which is the one I featured here is great if you have green eyes.
Thanks so much for commenting, I'm really glad you liked the look! xx
