Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour Fuchsia Mauve and Rosewood, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Yay for a real weekend for me! Last weekend I had to work and get stressed. This weekend I am planning to take it easy. I hope you all had a great start in the weekend. It is snowing here in Stuttgart at the moment. When I was driving home from work, it started to snow so heavy, I couldn't walk a few meters from the garage to the door, one of the neighbors who was passing by picked me up with a big umbrella, lol. They say it will snow consistently throughout the weekend. I might go out for a snow man if it does.

If you are in the states you might have noticed a new lip product from Laura Mercier, liquid lipsticks called Paint Wash Lip Color. They are available in nine colors, today I have two of them for you, Fuchsia Mauve and Rosewood.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour Fuchsia Mauve and Rosewood

Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colours come in a lip gloss like packaging with a twist lid. The applicator is flat so one surface is larger than the other. This helps if you are applying the lipstick directly with the applicator, like I do. I am happy with the precision I get with it. I know though some people prefer to put some at the back of their hands and apply with a lip brush to keep the product hygienic.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour Fuchsia Mauve and Rosewood

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Fuchsia Mauve is shown to me more lila and a little deeper on the promo photos but in reality it is a vivid fuchsia. Rosewood swatches like brown next to fuchsia but it is more of a rose brown. The consistency is rather thick and opaque but can be sheered out easily. The coverage on the lips is very good. It is also a little glossy but much more pigmented than a gloss. Compared to say Armani's liquid lipsticks, these don't set and get dry, which is a great thing because although I like the longevity of ones which set, they dry out my lips and leave them flakey. The formula is without alcohol and fragrance, it also contains no parabens.

Swatch: Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour Fuchsia Mauve and Rosewood

The formula is a bit like Dior's Fluid Sticks, but less slippery and longer lasting. The two shades I have did survived a whole lunch partially and they both faded evenly. Especially Fuchsia is a little staining, thus long wearing. Since it doesn't set though and may keep on moving similar to a lipstick, you have to make sure that your teeth are not catching some pink.

I especially like how lively and glossy Fuchsia Mauve looks like. It is so pretty and surprisingly wearable. I am going to write another post about the eye looks below so for the time being I shouldn't reveal it.

FOTD: Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour Fuchsia Mauve

For the look below I am wearing Laneige BB Cushion too, the shade is matching greatly to my complexion (#21 Natural Beige) and I love the coverage vs. showing through aspect. I like the coverage and still it looks very natural. I will post a full review on that one soon.

Although Rosewood appears to be more brownish on the arm swatch, on my lips it is a lovely old rose with a touch of brown in there. Rosewood doesn't appear as glossy as Fuchsia Mauve does but therefore it has a satin natural finish, which is great for a natural/nude lip color. Although I love Fuchsia Mauve more I can definitely see myself wearing Rosewood more often.

Final thoughts: I love the coverage and longevity of Laura Mercier Paint Wash without being too dry or flakey for the lips. They also don't feel very silicony. A great and intense alternative to the lipsticks, the finish is glossy like lip glosses but these stay much longer.

Availability/ Price: Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colours are now available at Sephora (here, not affiliated) and cost $28 each. In Germany we have to be a little more patient since the release date is March. The price will be around 29€.

Do you like liquid lip colors? Which formula is your favorite?

The products in this post are provided free of charge for my consideration.
I am not paid for this review, all opinions are honest and my own.

  1. Hey Sara, oh this is interesting. The Armani liquid lipstick does NOT set on me at all! It just keeps migrating and it's so messy. I can't wear that formula. For the moment, the only liquid lipstick I love is Guerlain Rouge G L'Extrait. I don't know why Guerlain is not expanding the shade range, because the formula is great! I have Envie, a pretty orange :)

I really like Fuchsia Mauve on you! Admittedly it's not the most office-friendly shade, but it's just so bright and cheerful!

    1. Hi Sunny, Armani does not set? On my lips it does and becomes very dry at some point :-(
I don't own any single Guerlain Rouge G L'extract, maybe I should change that after hearing how good it performs.

    2. My Rouge G L'Extrait (pinky brown Avarice) lives in my bag, but my experience with them is a little different. I do like it enough to keep it there because it's pretty comfortable to wear and the colour goes with everything, but it will migrate something crazy if I'm not careful for the first hour or so after application. They're a like for me, but not a total love.

And these two Laura Mercier colours look absolutely lovely on you! Fuchsia wow!!!

  5. Oh wow, both colors look gorgeous on you! I thought the fuschia swatch looked scary, but you're right, it's very wearable. And I like the Laniege BB Cushion on your face, can't wait for your review ( Katherine T.)

    1. Hi Katherine,
I am trying hard to get all the reviews on time. Laneige is hopefully one of the next.
In short: I love it too.

  9. Interesting! I wouldn't mind picking up a couple! They look sooo smooth on the lips! I'm still a bit unsure about the "non-setting" part but hopefully they won't transfer too much. :)

    1. Hi Jaa
it moves as much as a normal lipstick, like you can blot and apply again, that way probably it lasts longer as well. I am curious to see which shades you will pick up.

  10. Very interesting indeed!! I love the Dior Fluidsticks (I have Rieuse) but hated the Hourglass Opaque Rouge (too dry and cracked). If this is more like the Fluidsticks it's certainly something I'd look into! I love the idea of fluid lipsticks if they're done properly and these look lovely on you!! You look very beautiful!

    1. Hi Ingrid,
I haven't tried Hourglass ones yet. I like Dior too but many people found it sticky I know. I think we women are hard to please lol. Thanks so much for your lovely comment :-*

  11. I'm never one to try out new liquid lipsticks, but Fuchsia Mauve is something else! Definitely have to swatch it out the next time I'm at a sephora!

  12. It is hard to identify the better shade because both shades are really pretty :)

  13. Oh, how I love Laura Mercier products! they perform well and really are a pleasure to use. thanks for the swatches and review of this new product. I have been so curious, since my fave Laura lip product has been discontinued, and I am not too fond of the vanilla cupcake smell/taste of the current lip glosses. These are a nice alternative, since longer lasting and more pigmented is a good thing, IMO! Considering at Nude Rose and Rosewood. Both the shades you chose look great on you!

  14. This is what I've been waiting to see from Laura Mercier. Their lipsticks are beautiful and their glosses are pretty, but I've wanted a highly pigmented liquid lipstick from them for so long. :D
