Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge #246 Rose Comtesse for the Roses Collection, Review, Swatch & FOTD

Today I would like to step back from the holiday collection reviews craziness and appreciate a precious rose which reached me quiet late. It has been a ridiculous mistake from the post which was delivering all my packages from Lancôme to an online shop which I have never heard of. Amusingly nerve-wracking experience was over after we issued a complaint. Could you believe that this one took almost a month to come to me, within the country. Talk about 21st century and post in Germany being oh so reliable!

Have you noticed that Lancôme released five new lipsticks, each being designed and named after a type of rose? I find the idea so creative, especially because rose is in the logo of the brand...

The following board explains how they realized this fun idea. Five roses were selected to be turned into lipsticks. The leaves were analysed chromatically using a spectral photometer. It works by reflecting light on the surface and measuring the wave lengths. They were then analysed by using a software. By this method they claim to analyse not only the color but also the reflective properties of a certain shade. After the shade is prepared as lipstick, it is compared to the leaves to finalize the process.

Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge #246 Rose Comtesse is named after a children's book author. Now what does this have to do with roses? Since this post started to become a technical and cultural journey, let me get into that shortly too. Countess of Ségur (Comtesse de Ségur), started writing stories at the age of 58  for her 17 grandchildren from 1850s to 1870s. She described a beautiful rose in her novel Les Petites Filles modèles. This book is still being read by many children in France today, although there are controversy about how fitting it is to today's values (read more about it here, it is very interesting, it seems there is punishment of all degrees in the book...). Long story short, there is a beautiful hybrid rose which is named after her description, called Rose Comtesse Ségur which is the inspiration rose behind this beautiful warm mid-toned pink lipstick.

I always remember my mother when I wear Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge lipsticks, she loved them at 90s and a few of them in her drawer. I would always steal them then smash them against the cover since I would be rushing to meet some friends or maybe I was just too careless. She would melt them and form them again. Sometimes my aunt melted a few lipsticks and mixed them together to make interesting shades, aah the memories.

Swatch: Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge #246 Rose Comtesse

Below I am wearing Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge #246 Rose Comtesse as the reminiscence of those days brings a smile to my face. I loved the formula back then and I still love it today. It is very pigmented and creamy. It doesn't dry out my lips and lasts long on a foody like me.  There are four more shades and I ordered another one of them but unfortunately the online store wrote me back saying they don't have it anymore. They seem to be in stock in USA at Lancôme's website. I will check out a few stores to catch a few more.

FOTD with Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge #246 Rose Comtesse

Check out #160 Rose Grand Amour (a bright red shade from the same collection) on She-lynx and Melanie too.

Final thoughts: Lovely and creative idea, great execution. I just feel like it was not advertised all that much? Love the formula and the shades, make sure to check them out.

Have you tried Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge? Which is your favorite shade?

The product in this post is provided free of charge for my consideration.

  2. I only have 1 Lancome L'Absolu Rouge and it's in the shade 395 Rose Grenat. I'm not a huge fan of Lancome colours other than its foundation, and I got that lipstick purely for that colour. Gorgeous :-)

  4. I found an old Rouge Absolue in a purse a few weeks ago and I was reminded how comforting and soothing these lipsticks are for me. They never seem to go bad, or lose the shape. I just bought two more, Rose Amnesia and Luxe--for me, they are better than Tom Ford/Chanel et. al, a little SPF always helps. I can apply in the car and I'm done. Thanks for the lovely review, Lancome is a classic :-)

    1. Hi Silvita,
I also just purchased Rose Amnesia, it is such a lovely mauve shade, love it! I have to check Luxe. I think these are more economical and au par if not better than Chanel's. Tom Ford lasts on me a little longer but there is a big price difference of course. Thanks so much for stopping by xox

    1. Hi Michelle,
along with Chanel, Lancome was one of the luxury brands I got into as well, these lipsticks are so good, one of the highlight of the brand still after so many years.

  6. I am at the mall and just tried #246 on. I was looking for a more pink tone but this one looks more peach on me. I am Asian with fair-medium skin tone. Do you think 246 is more on the peach side?an suggestions for pink lipstick?
