Burberry Complete Eye Palette in #12 Nude Blush and #20 Slate Blue from Bloomsbury Girls Collection for Fall 2014, Review & Swatches

I just received my order from Burberry and I thought I would make a few pictures and take some swatches for those of you who are wondering how the eye shadow quads swatch. As always I will be doing looks with these soon. Since I haven't used them yet, my thoughts below are just first impressions.

There are two color focus of Burberry's Bloomsbury Girls Collection for Fall 2014. Each look has one eye shadow palette and three nail polishes which I will also introduce during the upcoming days. The blush for both of the looks is a repromote from their permanent line called Earthy. The first color focus has natural and plummy tones combined in a satin and matte palette called Blush Nude. This is combined with golden, dark red and dark plum nail polishes. The second look is for the blue lovers, with eye shadow palette called Slate Blue and three dark blue and green nail polishes.

When I first opened Burberry Complete Eye Palette in #12 Nude Blush compact, I thought, oh, they combined two palettes. It is like two beige/gold shades from another palette combined with plum and a dark eggplant from another. I always complain about the palettes being too monochromatic, so I was more than happy to see that this one was not. Once I swatched it, I sighed happily, the balance of warm and cool shades, mattes and satin or shimmers is as good as it can get. The textures are creamy, soft and the eye shadows are pigmented. I was a little careful since the green palette from Spring lacked a bit of pigment in my book but this time around they nailed it.

Burberry Complete Eye Palette in #12 Nude Blush

Oh Nude Blush, such a pretty name, such a pretty combination

Top right: A light to mid toned beige with natural undertones and satin to matte finish.

Middle right: A mid-toned shimmery bronze copper. I love this shade, it is shimmery but not frosty, it is also not very light so I will definitely use it as an all over color. I can see this one working on its own too.

Middle left: Mid-toned mauve with matte finish. This one has a slight duo-chromatic feel with a hidden shimmer, so lovely.

Bottom left: Deep eggplant with satin finish and gorgeous pinkish shimmer which is not over the top. Another lovely shade, I think I love all the shades in here.

I was contemplating about only getting Blush Nude because I couldn't come along with the blue palettes I purchased lately, including Dior Carre Bleu and YSL Lumieres Majorelle. Then I remembered trying to get hold of Burberry Pink Palette after skipping it in Spring and I didn't want to run after any palettes at the moment, so decided to order this one too. I am not sure I have done right though...

Burberry Complete Eye Palette in #20 Slate Blue

As opposed to Nude Blush, Slate Blue is more of a ton-sur-ton palette with tones of blue. The blues are different but, well, they are all blues. When I see this, I always wonder, why not throwing in an interesting shade, a yellow or a brown, beige, or maybe a pink? That would make Slate Blue much more interesting and would avoid two shades being almost the same...

Top right: Very light grey blue with matte to satin finish

Middle right: Mid-toned blue with satin finish

Middle left: A very deep black with blue shimmers, which makes it look like the deepest blue ever.

Bottom left: A deep indigo blue with shimmery finish.

As you see blue and indigo blue are rather close and I believe they wouldn't look so different on the lids but I have to try and see. For the time being, I am a little skeptical about Slate Blue.

Here is one more shot of two new Burberry palettes. I don't have information about if they will be permanent or limited but I haven't seen anything selling out and not restocking from Burberry. Spring Quads which sold out at first are both available now and when I asked SA said they are permanent. I also believe these two may similarly become permanent. I hope they keep Nude Blush in their line because it looks so amazing.

Final thoughts: My first impressions, Burberry Complete Eye Palette in #12 Nude Blush is love at first sight, #20 Slate Blue is rather disappointment but I have yet to try them on the eyes and let you know.

Are you eyeing any of them?

hi sara! wow! i didn't know about this collection. i'm still reading about their summer color story. you have definitely peaked my interest with the blush nude pallette. i always love makeup collections that are understated yet extremely pretty. does that make sense?? i can't wait to see you post an entire look with the blush nude pallette. i've never worn burberry makeup before and i'd have to probably phone order to nordstroms. i'm so weary about ordering makeup before trying it on. i heard earthy blush is beautiful, so far, i'm looking at this, the new guerlain pallette that has the more "natural tones", chantecaille's new anniversary pallette and tom ford's nude dip. ( that sounded kinda silly)! anyway, i suppose i should pick all of them but, i really have to choose one. besides, holiday collections will be coming around before we know it. xo to you!!

    1. Understated and extremely pretty, yep, that us Blush Nude. Earthy Blush is to die for, I have heard though it doesn't work on all complexions but in US you are fortunate enough to be able to send products back if they don't work, so if I were you, I would test that one too. Blush Nude and Earthy (which I am wearing today) are a great duo. Guerlain Palette with natural tones (I guess you mean Les Sables) is pretty but didn't work all that great for me, the darkest shade is very warm. If you like very warm shades, it can work wonderfully on you though. I will post about Blush Nude and Les Sables in a few days so keep tuned :-*

  5. Hi Sara
Nude Blush is pretty but I have to say I was a Burburry fan, but the collections have been very staid with no wow factor-this just just seems part of a collection with no star if the show-not sure what u think?

    1. Hi Jo,
I know what you mean. Let me tell you this, I hated the first quads when they released and never believed that they had the same quality of their singles, I mean the famous singles ;-) Plum one created a mud on my eyes and nude ones were too subtle to start with. I didn't like the green eye shadow palette from Spring either. The pink one called "Complete Eye Palette" but it needed something to make it work, a deeper shade...

Now fast forwarding to today, I am wearing Blush Nude and first time in centuries (I only like Dark Spice until now), I am in love with a Burberry eye shadow quad. It gives this very pretty polished natural look and it looks exactly like in the promo photos (which is usually not the case with many makeup brands). If you are in search for drama, this one is probably not for you but if you would like a natural but pretty palette, you would love it.

  6. Nude Blush is so pretty! But it reminds me Plum Pink... I really wished they'll introduce something more exciting....

    1. Hi Linda, thanks for giving me the idea. I will compare it to Plum Pink which I own (and don't like that much since it turns into a muddy mass on me). Blush Nude is very pretty, much mooore pretty than Blush Nude and I think they are different enough to own both.

  7. I do love the design of these palettes. They look wonderful but it also makes sense to me to have smaller strips of highlight and definition shades which I use so much less of. My occasional need for blue has been totally satisfied by Chanel's Tisse Riviera with more versatile shades in that palette too but I am highly tempted by Nude Blush. Looking forward to your nail polish reviews of this collection. Susan, London

    1. Dear Susan,
I also love the design, the hefty package which feel so luxurious and the details like Burberry Design on the velvet pouch or small applicators on its pockets. I agreee with you about the blues, Tisse Riviera much be one of the prettiest blues I ever owned. I don't know what made me to order Slate Blue, I was pondering about it and then it happened. :-} Nail polish reviews are coming up soon.

  8. Thank you for your review. You are amazing - I didn't even know about their Fall collection - I have to confess, I am still busy deciding wether to buy the three nail polishes from the "summer showers" ;-) The Nude Blush eye palette looks absolutely stunning. Thank you for your swatches, as always they are very helpful!
I am looking forward to your FOTD!
Hope you have a great tuesday.

    1. Hi Stephanie,
I passed on the nail polishes from Summer, but only picked the darkest berry one among them. I am rather dark moody nail polish gal and those shades of black of this collection on the nails make me happier :-) Nude Blush look is up in a few days if not tonight. Thanks for your kind words Xox

  10. I'm liking the look of Nude blush, its just the mauve shade that might not work for me, I'll have to think it over :)
Do you think it bears any similarities with Tom Ford Orchid Haze?

    1. Dear Clare,
my first reaction when I opened the compact was like "ooh another Orchid Haze" but it turns out they are very different. I just posted some comparisons, I hope they help.

  12. Unfortunately, I don't think either of the quads would look very flattering on my coloring, but I do think Nude Blush is pretty. I'm sad they didn't come out with new lip colors for this collection!
